Yes—Esper Zero is worth building in Neverness to Everness (NTE) when your account needs a fast, repeatable reaction enabler. His strongest contribution is not permanent on-field damage. It is the ability to fill the Esper Cycle meter, use his Skill and Ultimate in a short rotation, and hand the field to the teammate that triggers your chosen reaction.
That makes Zero a particularly efficient investment for Blossom, Remora, and Charge teams. He is less convincing as a universal main carry, so build him around the rotation your roster actually plays rather than around a tier-list label.

The short verdict: build Zero for rotation value
Zero’s practical value comes from compressing the setup phase of a team. Prydwen’s character data lists Appraise and Engrave with a 100 Cycle Rate and a 16-second cooldown. A 100 Cycle Rate is the important part: when the skill is available, it immediately fills the Esper Cycle meter according to the guide’s interpretation of the kit. You can then use Zero’s Skill and Ultimate and switch to the ally who will trigger the reaction.

In other words, Zero earns his slot by making the team’s next meaningful action arrive sooner and more reliably. His personal burst still matters, but it supports the rotation instead of replacing it.

The answer is therefore role-specific:
- Worth building: you want a dependable Cycle enabler, play Blossom, Remora, or Charge teams, and have a damage dealer who benefits from receiving the field after Zero acts.
- Lower priority: your roster already has a comfortable cycle engine, or you need a character to remain on field for most of the encounter and carry damage alone.
This conclusion is based on specialist build guides rather than an official developer ranking or independent combat test. Exact values can change with a balance update, so check Zero’s current in-game tooltips before finalizing expensive upgrades.
How Zero’s kit supports a fast rotation
Appraise and Engrave: the cycle button
Prydwen reports a 100 Cycle Rate and a 16-second cooldown for Appraise and Engrave. The cooldown is short enough to shape a normal rotation rather than function as a once-per-fight emergency. When the skill is ready, activating it is the point at which Zero converts his turn into team-wide momentum: the Cycle meter is filled, and the next character can begin the reaction sequence.
Because the value is tied to readiness, do not spend the skill purely for a small amount of off-field damage if doing so delays the reaction window you built the team to exploit. The best use is usually the opening of a planned cycle or the reset immediately after your main damage dealer finishes.

NTE.wiki describes Zero’s Redirect Skill as refilling Cycle Energy. That gives him a second way to smooth the team’s timing. A practical sequence is to enter with Zero, perform the actions that refill or prepare the cycle, use the cycle-filling Skill when available, cast the Ultimate for burst damage, and then redirect to the ally whose reaction or damage window you want to start.
The exact button order can vary with your team and the current in-game kit. Treat the meter and cooldown as the decision points, not a rigid animation script: if the reaction partner is not ready, hold the handoff long enough to avoid wasting the filled cycle.
Ultimate: burst that belongs inside the rotation
The NTE.wiki overview describes Zero’s Ultimate as burst damage. NTEBuild lists his passive Theopneustos as increasing Divide by Zero damage by 25%. That number is guide-reported, not an independently measured result, and it may be changed by a patch. It nevertheless explains why Zero should cast his Ultimate during the same short window in which he enables the cycle: you obtain his burst contribution without turning him into a field-time hog.
In a typical rotation, Zero’s Ultimate is a bridge between setup and handoff. Cast it after the cycle-enabling action when the target is in range, then switch promptly unless your specific team requires another Zero action to complete its reaction setup.

What a Zero rotation looks like in practice
Use this as a framework and adapt it to the current tooltips, enemy behavior, and your reaction partner:
- Start with the team’s prerequisite. Apply whatever status, positioning, or setup your Blossom, Remora, or Charge composition requires before Zero takes his turn.
- Enter Zero and check the meters. Confirm that Appraise and Engrave is available or note how long remains on its 16-second cooldown. Watch Cycle Energy rather than casting automatically.
- Use the Redirect Skill when it advances the cycle. NTE.wiki identifies this Skill as a Cycle Energy refill, so it is most valuable when it turns an incomplete setup into a usable cycle.
- Activate Appraise and Engrave. Prydwen’s 100 Cycle Rate means this is the key cycle-filling action in the guide data.
- Cast Zero’s Ultimate. Use the burst while the target is in range and, when appropriate, while Theopneustos’s guide-reported Divide by Zero bonus is relevant.
- Switch to the reaction trigger. The cited rotation guidance specifically recommends moving to the teammate who will trigger the reaction after Zero’s Skill and Ultimate.
- Spend the damage window, then reset. Keep Zero off field while the reaction partner does the team’s main work. Return when the 16-second Skill cycle and the rest of the team’s cooldowns line up again.
The most common mistake is staying on Zero after his enabling actions have done their job. If his value is cycle compression, every unnecessary second on field reduces the time available to the character that converts that cycle into damage.
Where Zero fits: Blossom, Remora, and Charge
Blossom teams
The cited team guide supports Zero in Blossom compositions. Choose this route when Blossom is the reaction identity you want your roster to emphasize and another character is ready to capitalize on the cycle Zero creates. Zero’s job is to prepare and hand over the turn; the Blossom trigger should normally receive the field for the payoff.
Remora teams
Remora is another supported context. The same principle applies: build the team around the Remora reaction sequence, then use Zero to make the meter and timing predictable. His value rises when your Remora partner loses damage opportunities because the cycle arrives late or because setup actions consume too much field time.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Charge teams
Charge compositions also appear in the cited guide. Charge is a sensible fit when your main damage character benefits from a clean handoff and a repeatable cycle rather than from a second character competing for field time. Compare the actual cooldowns of your Charge partner before committing to a rotation; Zero cannot fix a mismatch if the rest of the team is still waiting.
These labels describe supported team contexts, not a promise that every Blossom, Remora, or Charge roster performs identically. Select the reaction first, identify which teammate triggers it, and then ask whether Zero’s cycle button improves that character’s uptime.
How much investment does Zero need?
Obtaining the character
NTE.wiki describes Zero as a free S-Rank character obtained through the main story. Prydwen also says his Awakening copies are free. Those progression details should be confirmed in your current game version because the available pages are secondary guides and the captured material did not verify them against an official announcement. If the current progression still follows those descriptions, Zero is unusually approachable for players who want a high-rarity support without budgeting for a limited acquisition.

Awakening priorities
NTEBuild marks A2, A3, and A4 as Awakening priorities. Treat that as a guide recommendation, not a universal order that overrides your account’s needs. First inspect what each Awakening currently changes in game, then prioritize the nodes that improve the cycle, the Ultimate window, or the damage of the actions you actually cast every rotation.

Arcs, modules, and cartridges
The available guides discuss Arcs, modules, and cartridges as part of Zero’s build, but the supplied data does not establish a complete, version-stable list of exact best-in-slot pieces or stat breakpoints. Build around the function that is proven: Zero must be ready to use his cycle tools on schedule, survive long enough to complete the handoff, and contribute burst during the brief window in which he is on field.
- Prefer options that help you meet the 16-second Skill rhythm rather than options that only increase damage in a rotation where Zero is rarely active.
- Use offensive choices when they improve the Ultimate or Divide by Zero portion of your actual sequence without delaying the reaction trigger.
- Do not overinvest in a damage setup that forces Zero to remain on field after his cycle actions are complete.
- Compare guide recommendations with the current tooltips; names, values, and priorities can change between patches.
This approach also makes transitional equipment useful. You can field Zero effectively as a cycle support before every slot is optimized, then improve damage or durability as your account gains better pieces.
Zero as a sub-DPS versus Zero as a main carry
Calling Zero a sub-DPS is not a criticism; it identifies where his kit creates the most account value. A sub-DPS/support Zero enters, fills or advances the cycle, uses his burst, and leaves. His damage is additive to the reaction partner’s damage because it costs relatively little field time.
A main-carry plan asks a different question: can Zero remain active for most of the encounter and produce more value than the character he would otherwise enable? The available evidence does not establish that he is the best on-field carry for every roster. Neither a 100 Cycle Rate nor a 25% guide-reported Divide by Zero bonus proves universal dominance. If your team’s success depends on a long uninterrupted Zero field window, test that plan against the shorter support rotation in your own content before spending rare materials.
| Build role | What Zero does | When it makes sense | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cycle-focused sub-DPS | Fills the cycle, uses Skill and Ultimate, then hands off | Blossom, Remora, or Charge teams with a clear reaction trigger | Holding Zero on field after the handoff is ready |
| Hybrid damage support | Adds burst damage while preserving the same short rotation | Your Zero has suitable offensive upgrades and the team still meets its cycle timing | Trading cooldown consistency for damage that does not improve the team’s payoff |
| Primary on-field carry | Remains active for a larger share of the fight | Only when your roster and current kit make that field-time trade favorable | The evidence does not show this is universally optimal |
How to decide whether Zero is your next build
Use the following checks before committing resources:
- Reaction plan: You can name the Blossom, Remora, or Charge reaction your team is built to trigger.
- Handoff target: One teammate clearly benefits from receiving the field immediately after Zero.
- Cycle problem: Your current team loses time waiting for Cycle Energy or for a repeatable setup window.
- Cooldown fit: A 16-second cycle button can be aligned with the rest of your rotation instead of sitting unused.
- Resource access: You can obtain the character and, if needed, the guide-recommended Awakening levels through your current progression.
Delay the build if none of those conditions apply. A free S-Rank is still an opportunity cost: materials spent on a character whose cycle does not improve your chosen team may produce less immediate progress than upgrading the reaction trigger itself.

What the S-tier ranking does—and does not—tell you
PC Gamer’s tier list, updated July 8, 2026, places Zero in its S tier. That is an editorial assessment of the authors’ view at that time, not an official score, a measured damage result, or a permanent ranking. Tier lists also compress several roles into one label. A character can be S tier because of exceptional support utility while still being a poor fit for a player seeking a dedicated on-field carry.
Use the ranking as a reason to investigate Zero, not as a substitute for checking your roster. Patch changes can alter cooldowns, reactions, Awakening effects, or the relative value of cycle support. Re-read the current in-game descriptions whenever a major update changes the combat system.
Troubleshooting a Zero rotation
The cycle still feels slow
Check whether Appraise and Engrave is being used on cooldown and whether your Redirect Skill is actually refilling Cycle Energy in the current version. If the reaction partner is not ready when Zero finishes, the bottleneck may be that partner’s setup rather than Zero’s build.
Zero contributes little damage
Confirm that his Ultimate is cast before the handoff and that your offensive upgrades do not force extra field time. Theopneustos’s 25% Divide by Zero figure comes from NTEBuild’s guide data; it should be treated as a reason to include the Ultimate in the rotation, not as proof that Zero should replace your primary damage dealer.
The team loses damage after switching
Switch only after the required setup is complete. A premature handoff wastes the cycle; an overly late handoff wastes the reaction character’s field time. Practice watching the meter, the target’s status, and the partner’s readiness together instead of following a fixed number of attacks.
You are unsure which upgrade to buy first
Use the current in-game descriptions to rank upgrades by rotation impact: reliable cycle access first, then the Ultimate or Divide by Zero actions you cast every loop, then survivability or additional damage. The A2–A4 priority noted by NTEBuild is a useful starting recommendation, but not a replacement for checking what those Awakening levels currently do.

Esper Zero is a strong, accessible investment when your account benefits from a character who can repeatedly fill the Esper Cycle meter, add burst, and hand the field to a reaction trigger. His reported 100 Cycle Rate, 16-second cooldown, support classification, and fit in Blossom, Remora, and Charge teams make the case for building him as a cycle-focused sub-DPS. Build him to serve that rotation first; only treat him as a main carry after your own roster and current patch prove that the extra field time is worthwhile.
