If the ESPN Fantasy app will not open, keeps loading, rejects your login, or shows outdated league data, the cause is usually one of five things: an ESPN service problem, an unreliable connection, a stuck app session, an account issue, or device compatibility. Start with the outage and network checks below before clearing data or reinstalling.

1. Check whether ESPN Fantasy is down
Before repeatedly reinstalling the app, determine whether the problem is local or affecting ESPN’s fantasy service.
- Open games.espn.com in Safari or Chrome.
- Open ESPN’s documented fantasy connectivity test: http://games.espn.com/ffl/connectivity.
- Check ESPN Fan Support for announcements.
- Ask a league-mate whether the same league loads for them.
If the app, website, and connectivity test fail on multiple networks—or several league members report the same problem—an ESPN outage or scheduled maintenance is more likely. ESPN provides this troubleshooting sequence in its official Fantasy app network guide. The HTTP diagnostic address above is reproduced as ESPN documents it; do not assume an HTTPS replacement is equivalent.
If only one league, sport, season, or feature fails, do not call it a service-wide outage. The issue may involve league settings, deadlines, commissioner controls, an unavailable season, or a league-specific error.

2. Test your internet connection and switch networks
Strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal bars do not guarantee reliable data. Open another website or app, then test ESPN on a different connection.
- On Wi-Fi: turn Wi-Fi off and try cellular data.
- On cellular: connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
If ESPN works on one connection but not the other, the app may be functioning and the problem is more likely the network, DNS path, or local connection. ESPN specifically recommends switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
3. Enable cellular data for ESPN on iPhone
If Fantasy works on Wi-Fi but not cellular, check whether iOS has blocked mobile data for the app:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular.
- Scroll to the app list.
- Find ESPN Fantasy or the currently listed ESPN fantasy app.
- Turn cellular access on.
The exact app name and Settings presentation can vary. If the app is missing from the list, restart the iPhone, open ESPN Fantasy once, and check again. This is separate from Wi-Fi and location permissions.

4. Run ESPN’s fantasy connectivity test
Open ESPN’s fantasy connectivity endpoint in a browser.
- Error or failure: your device or network may not be reaching ESPN’s fantasy service.
- Page loads successfully but the app fails: the likely categories shift toward a stale login session, corrupted local data, an outdated app, or device compatibility.
ESPN says a successful check indicates that the device can access the ESPN API. Do not keep clearing local data if this test also fails; resolve the connection or wait for the service to recover first.
5. Force-quit and reopen ESPN Fantasy
iPhone or iPad
Open the app switcher, swipe the ESPN Fantasy app away, and reopen it. The gesture differs by device: newer iPhones generally use an upward swipe and pause, while some iPads or older devices use different controls.
Android
Open the recent-apps screen, swipe ESPN Fantasy away, and relaunch it. Android navigation varies by manufacturer and by whether gesture or button navigation is enabled.
This removes a stuck foreground session without deleting your account or online fantasy data.
6. Restart the phone or tablet
Restarting is a practical additional device-level step, not a guarantee and not a specific fix documented in ESPN’s Fantasy network guide. It can clear a temporary network, memory, or operating-system state that survives force-quitting.
7. Reset local app data or cache
Android
- Force-quit ESPN Fantasy.
- Open the phone’s app settings.
- Select ESPN Fantasy App or the current ESPN fantasy app entry.
- Open Storage or its equivalent.
- Tap Clear Cache. If that fails, use Clear Data.
- Relaunch the app and sign in again if prompted.
Menu names differ on Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and other Android devices. Clearing data removes the local session and may log you out; it does not delete the ESPN account, online team, league, or historical data stored on ESPN’s servers.
iPhone or iPad
ESPN’s older documentation refers to a Fantasy entry in Settings and a Reset slider. Current iOS versions may not show those exact labels. Check the app’s settings entry if available and use its reset control. If no reset option exists, use iOS’s offload or delete-and-reinstall process instead. iOS does not provide the same universal clear-cache control that Android does.

8. Recover your ESPN login or reset the password
If the app opens normally but rejects credentials, repeatedly returns to the login screen, or shows Need help signing in?, treat it as an account problem rather than a network problem.
- Open ESPN Fantasy and tap Log In.
- Select Need help signing in?
- Enter the email address associated with the ESPN account.
- Retrieve the temporary six-digit passcode from email.
- Enter the code and select Continue.
- Optionally select Reset Password.
- Enter and save a new case-sensitive password.
Use ESPN’s official login recovery instructions if the labels differ. Check spam and promotions folders, and consider whether you have multiple ESPN accounts using different email addresses. If the app will not open, begin recovery through ESPN.com in a browser. Password recovery cannot fix a server outage.
9. Update or reinstall the app
Check the App Store or Google Play for an update before deleting anything. An update may address crashes, blank screens, login loops, missing league data, or compatibility problems after an operating-system update, although those are possible causes rather than confirmed explanations for every failure.
As checked August 18, 2026, Apple lists the app as ESPN Fantasy Sports & More, developed by Disney, free to download with in-app purchases, and requiring iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone and iPad. See the current App Store listing because the name and requirements can change. No universal Android minimum version is stated here because it was not verified.

- Your password, or access to the account email.
- The league and team you manage.
- Any league information needed to locate the team again.
iPhone or iPad
Press and hold the app icon, choose the delete or remove option, then reinstall the current ESPN fantasy app from the App Store.
Android
Uninstall the app through the device’s app settings or launcher, then reinstall it from Google Play.

Reinstalling removes the local app installation, not the online ESPN account or league. You will likely need to sign in again, so do not delete the app until account recovery is possible.
10. Use ESPN Fantasy on the web, then contact support if needed
When a draft, lineup deadline, waiver claim, trade, or live scoring action is urgent, try ESPN Fantasy in a browser immediately. ESPN’s Fantasy product page identifies the mobile app, while its support documentation uses ESPN web properties for connectivity and account recovery.
The website can be a useful temporary workaround when the app crashes, its local data is corrupted, or a feature is available on the web but not behaving in the app. Browser availability and layout vary by sport, league type, season, and ESPN service changes, so it is not guaranteed to duplicate every app feature.
If a time-sensitive action is slow or errors, avoid repeated submissions that could create duplicate actions. Capture the time and error, then verify whether the action actually completed.

Nothing loads anywhere
Test another website, switch networks, run the ESPN connectivity test, and check Fan Support. If multiple people are affected, wait for ESPN to resolve the outage or maintenance rather than repeatedly resetting the app.
The website works but the app does not
Force-quit the app, update it, reset local data or cache, reinstall if necessary, and use the website as a fallback.

The app opens but login fails
Verify the account email and use the temporary passcode flow. Check email spam folders and reset the password if needed.
Only one league or feature fails
Confirm the sport, season, league status, deadline, and league settings. Ask another league member to test it and compare the app with the website before treating it as a general ESPN failure.
When to contact ESPN Fan Support
Escalate if the app and website fail on multiple networks, other league members have the same issue, reinstalling and account recovery do not help, a specific league is missing after successful login, or a draft, lineup, waiver, scoring, or trade action repeatedly produces an error.
Contact options can vary by time and region. Use ESPN Fan Support for available chat, email, phone, or social-support routes. Include:
- Device model.
- iOS or Android version.
- App version, if visible.
- Fantasy sport and season.
- League ID or name.
- Exact error message.
- Whether the website works.
- Whether Wi-Fi and cellular behave differently.
- Screenshots with passwords and private account information removed.
