The game spans crop farming, animal husbandry, and forestry; you do not need to take on all three at once.
Choose one starter focus
The game’s manual groups farm work into three broad activities. Pick the one you most want to do, then learn its basic equipment and routine before adding another system. The manual also notes that forestry machinery calls for more skill and budget, making it a less straightforward first focus for many new players. GIANTS Software’s Farming Simulator 25 manual describes these paths and the land options available.

Crop farming
Arable farming centers on working fields, harvesting crops, and then processing or selling the harvest. It offers a direct way to learn how machines and field tasks fit together. Start with the fields and equipment in your save rather than assuming you need to buy larger machinery.
Animal husbandry
Animal farming means tending livestock and selling the products they provide. Before adding animals, make sure you understand the relevant care routine and how you will move their products. Treat it as its own workflow rather than a small add-on to crop work.

- Farming Simulator 25: Highlands Fishing Edition bundles both the acclaimed main game and the Highlands Fishing Expansion. Enjoy 26 crops, 4 maps, 400+ machines, over 150 authentic brands, and aquaculture in addition to agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry
- FOUR MAPS AROUND THE GLOBE: Build a farm along winding rivers and historic grain elevators in North America, surrounded by ponds in Central Europe, in a lush East Asian landscape filled with rice paddies, or in the Scotland-inspired town of Kinlaig - a lush paradise of rolling green hills and open waters
- fish - a new way to gather resources and another relaxing escape in addition to fields, forests, and stables. Casual shore fishing, rod in hand, rounds out the peaceful image of life by the water. The Highlands Fishing Expansion also includes onions, highland cattle, over 20 new machines and more
Forestry
Forestry involves planting and cutting trees. The manual cautions that forestry machinery requires skill and budget, so consider learning another activity first if you want a gentler introduction to the game’s equipment and logistics.
The manual says land can be purchased for crops, buildings, animal pens, or forests, and that a plow can create or expand fields on land you own. It also describes combining nearby small fields when funds are limited. Those options let you shape a farm around your chosen focus without assuming every save should expand in the same way.
Learn the controls and interface before expanding
Use the official Farming Simulator Academy tutorial overview as a guided introduction. GIANTS Software describes the Academy as aimed at absolute beginners, with tutorials on settings and new saves, the HUD and menus, icons, first machines, shops and dealers, build mode, seasonal cycles, and the AI helper.

Check the controls for your platform in the game before following any button-specific advice: inputs can differ by platform, and a control that is useful for one task may not apply to another. Learning the HUD, machine icons, shop flow, and helper options first can make it easier to understand what a job requires before committing money or time to it.
Match machinery to the work you actually do
GIANTS Software lists more than 400 machines from more than 150 agricultural brands on the official Farming Simulator 25 page. That breadth is a choice of tools, not a requirement to collect or buy the biggest machine. Match equipment to the crop, task, and scale of your fields; a machine that is too large for the work can be as poor a fit as one that cannot do the job.
If you need a machine for a temporary task, consider renting it rather than buying immediately. Whether that makes sense depends on your save and how you plan to use the equipment; there is no single break-even rule established here. Check the shop and your finances in-game before deciding.

Explore what is new in FS25 at your own pace
FS25 offers three settings: North America, East Asia, and Central Europe. Its official feature page also lists rice, spinach, peas, and green beans; goats, water buffalo, and baby animals; weather events such as twisters and hail; ground deformation; GPS-assisted steering; and expanded production and construction activity. These give returning players new systems to explore, but you can discover them one at a time rather than treating every new feature as a prerequisite.
- Choose a map for its setting and the kind of farm you want to build. The official page establishes the three regional settings, but does not establish one as the best choice.
- Try a new crop or animal when it fits your focus. New options add variety; learn their workflow before building a farm around them.
- Notice weather and ground conditions as you work. Twisters, hail, and ground deformation can make the environment feel more active than a simple field-and-machine loop.
- Use GPS-assisted steering if it suits your tasks. Check the controls and in-game guidance for your platform rather than relying on generic button instructions.
Understand production logistics before investing
FS25 adds production chains, farm shops, and constructions. Production means adding steps beyond fieldwork: a site accepts particular inputs, turns them into outputs, and those goods then need to be stored, transported, or sold. Before committing to a chain, find out what the site accepts and produces, and plan how you will move the goods.

The official feature listing confirms these systems, but it does not establish current recipes, margins, or a ranking of the most profitable goods. Check the information available in your own game and choose production for the play style and logistics you want, not on the assumption that one chain is universally best.

Add Precision Farming when you want more detailed field management
Precision Farming 3.0 is an optional free pack for FS25, announced by GIANTS Software on May 8, 2025 and distributed through the official ModHub. Its tools add a more technical layer to field decisions, so it is reasonable to learn the standard fieldwork loop before taking them on. The GIANTS Software Press Center announcement describes both the new features and returning tools.
What Precision Farming 3.0 adds
- Tramlines and a subsidy for planting oilseed radish as a catch crop.
- Pulse width modulation (PWM) to adjust sprayers.
- Automatic section control linked to GPS-defined zones.
- Soil types and sampling, environmental assessment, economic analysis, yield maps, crop sensors, and variable-rate applications.
These systems are for players who want to make field management more detailed, not a requirement for learning or enjoying the base game. GIANTS Software’s May 2025 announcement says previous Precision Farming versions had accumulated more than 5 million downloads; that figure refers to earlier versions, not FS25 sales.
Check platform support
GIANTS Software lists Farming Simulator 25 for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on its current product page. Confirm that your platform is supported before purchasing, and use platform-specific controls and tutorials once you start playing.
