Before jumping into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, choose the mode that fits what you want to play, then learn the basics before chasing an optimized setup. Campaign offers a solo story and adjustable difficulty; Multiplayer starts with a Training Course and objective-focused matches; Round-Based Zombies is the cooperative survival option.
Choose a mode that suits your first session
You do not need to play the modes in a prescribed order. Activision’s beginner guide introduces Campaign, Multiplayer, and Round-Based Zombies as different ways to start.

Campaign: learn at your own pace
Choose Campaign if you want a solo story and time to get familiar with combat systems. Activision describes Recruit difficulty as intended for players new to the series, and says difficulty can be changed at any time. Pick the challenge that feels comfortable rather than treating the initial choice as permanent. See the Campaign guide for the available difficulty options and campaign systems.
Multiplayer: practice, then play the objective
Start in the Training Course before joining live matches. Afterward, choose a familiar mode: Activision’s beginner guide suggests Quick Play filters such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, and Domination. In team modes, pay attention to the objective; eliminations alone do not necessarily help your team win.

Round-Based Zombies: team up for survival
Choose Zombies if cooperative, wave-based survival appeals to you. It is one of the game’s main modes. Maps and other post-launch content can change, so consult current in-game or official listings rather than relying on launch-era map counts.
Use the Training Course to learn movement
Activision recommends the Training Course for players who are new to Call of Duty or returning after a break. It teaches movement, Omnimovement, and combat, making it a useful place to build familiarity before a live match. The recommendation appears in the official Multiplayer guide, published October 23, 2024.
Omnimovement lets you chain slides and dives, and adds enhanced supine prone movement with full 360-degree motion. You do not need to master every maneuver immediately: first practice moving between cover and staying oriented, then add more advanced movement as it becomes comfortable.

Tune settings after you have played
There is no single sensitivity or Field of View value that is best for everyone. Play a match or two, notice what feels awkward, and adjust gradually so you can tell which change helped.

- Controller: Try different button layouts and horizontal and vertical stick sensitivities.
- Graphics: Explore Field of View and choose a view that feels comfortable on your display.
- Other setup: Adjust the HUD, graphics, and mouse or controller controls to suit your device and preferences.
Activision’s COD 101 beginner guide identifies button layout, stick sensitivity, and Field of View as settings worth exploring; it does not prescribe universal values.
In Campaign, build a between-mission routine
Campaign preparation is not only about combat. Make a quick check of supplies and planning systems part of your routine:

- Check your backpack for equipment and supplies before heading into a mission.
- Keep track of both health and armor, and pick up armor when it is available.
- Between missions, review Safehouse renovation options and the Evidence Board for intel and planning.

Different actions contribute to different progression tracks. Activision’s beginner guide distinguishes Player XP, Weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP. Weapon XP unlocks weapon attachments, so using a weapon can develop its setup even as your overall player progression advances.
