Its developer reports a 4K, 60fps PS5 output, but that figure is not an independent benchmark and the project is still unfinished. You must supply your own legally obtained GameCube disc image; the announced release requires the European GEDP01 image and explicitly does not support the USA disc.
What this PS5 version is—and is not
This is a community-made static recompilation, not a commercial remaster, an official Nintendo release or a downloadable PS5 store product. Recompilation converts the original GameCube program into native code for a target platform rather than running the game through a traditional emulator at runtime. The project still uses the game data from your own disc image, including its graphics, sound and music.

The project announcement identifies release 0.8. The author describes it as active but incomplete and asks players to report bugs. A title-screen boot milestone was recorded on PC on August 11, 2026, using DolRecomp and RecompCore with no interpreter fallback for guest-CPU execution; reaching the title screen is not evidence of a completed playthrough.

PlayStation 5
The developer claims the PS5 build runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. That is a project report, not a laboratory measurement or independently verified benchmark. The available information also does not establish a current PS5 store listing or a guarantee that every scene maintains the target frame rate.

PC, Mac and Linux
Builds are presented for Windows PC, Mac and Linux. The Linux build has been tested on Steam Deck, but the author says version 0.8 has not received a complete playthrough and asks users to report problems. Expect compatibility issues or progression-blocking bugs until more testing is complete.
Which disc image do you need?
For the announced build, use a legally dumped image of the European GameCube release identified as GEDP01. The announcement explicitly says the USA disc is unsupported. The repositories do not include the game image or proprietary assets, so downloading someone else’s image is not a substitute for dumping a disc you own.

There is a separate technical detail that can cause confusion: the matching decompilation repository describes a US release target, GEDE01, revision 0, and requires a legally obtained matching image. That repository target and the 0.8 announcement’s GEDP01 requirement are not interchangeable. Before attempting setup, follow the disc-region requirement for the exact binary you are using and check its release notes; do not assume a GEDE01 image will work with a build announced for GEDP01.

The recompilation’s appeal is native execution and console-oriented controls, while Dolphin offers the more established route for playing a legally dumped copy today. Neither comparison removes the need for a lawful game image.

These percentages describe decompilation and matching progress, not a percentage of the game that is playable. A high object-match figure does not prove that all gameplay systems, menus, audio paths or end-game sequences work in release 0.8.
Practical setup checklist
- Obtain a physical European copy of Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem and dump it yourself using hardware and software appropriate to your system and local law.
- Confirm that the resulting image identifies as GEDP01 for the announced 0.8 build. Do not use the unsupported USA image.
- Download the project’s release files from its official distribution channel and read the release notes for the exact platform package.
- Keep the disc image separate from the program files and provide it when the recompilation requests the game data.
- On PS5, use the project’s documented installation method and verify that the package is intended for your console software version.
- On PC, Mac or Linux, launch a short test session first. Check controls, rendering, audio and saving before committing to a long campaign.
- If using Steam Deck, test suspension, controller prompts and save loading; the author has reported testing but not a complete playthrough.
- Report reproducible bugs with platform, build number, disc-region identifier and the save or scene where the problem occurred.
Likely problems and what they mean
The program rejects the image
The most likely cause is a region or revision mismatch. Recheck the identifier: GEDP01 is the announced requirement, while GEDE01 is the US target named by the decompilation README. Obtain the matching legally dumped release rather than renaming files.

A scene fails or the game crashes
Version 0.8 is not presented as complete. Record the exact scene, platform, build and whether texture packs or optional shadows were enabled, then report it to the project author.
Performance is below 60fps
The 4K/60 claim applies to the developer’s PS5 report and is not a universal guarantee. Disable optional texture packs or rebuilt shadows as a diagnostic step, and distinguish a sustained frame-rate issue from a one-off shader or loading hitch.
Saves do not appear
Use one of the four recompilation save-anywhere slots and separately test the original memory-card save path. Back up save data before changing builds.

Choose the recompilation if you specifically want native PS5 output, modern remapping, real 16:9 presentation and save-anywhere convenience, and you accept unfinished software and the European disc requirement. Choose Dolphin if your priority is a mature, widely tested way to run a legally dumped copy, especially when you only have the USA release. In either case, verify the exact build and region because this project’s requirements may change as development continues.
