Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Searching for an Euro Truck Simulator 2 product keys list? The important answer is that there is no official public list of valid, unused keys. Product codes from file-sharing pages, videos, forums, or generators have no dependable proof of ownership or validity and may be duplicate, region-restricted, for DLC, or later revoked.
The safe routes are straightforward: activate a key from your own purchase, recover it from the original seller, buy the current Steam version, or use SCS Software’s official free demo.

What an ETS2 product key actually is
A product key is a license issued for a particular purchase, edition, platform, and sometimes region. It is not a reusable coupon that can be safely shared in a public list.
For the current version of Euro Truck Simulator 2, the normal ownership path is Steam. SCS Software’s official purchase page links the base game to Steam and also provides a demo. A Steam key is redeemed once and then associated with the Steam account that activated it. Reinstalling the game later does not require another key if you use that same account. See SCS Software’s official ETS2 purchase page and ETS2 support information.

Key formats described by SCS
| Edition | Format | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy edition | XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX |
Five groups of five characters |
| Newer Steam edition | XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX |
Three groups of five characters |
These formats are only visual clues. Matching the pattern does not prove that a code is genuine, unused, compatible with Steam, valid in your country, or intended for the base game rather than DLC. SCS lists these formats on its support page.
Where a legitimate key comes from
Steam purchase
When you buy ETS2 directly through Steam, the game is normally added to your Steam Library. You do not need to search the internet for a separate “free product key.” Your Steam account is the ownership record.
Authorized boxed copy
An older retail copy may include a code on a card, sticker, manual, disc insert, or other packaging. Check every part of the box before assuming the key is missing. Some boxed editions were designed for Steam activation, while others belong to the older legacy system.
Authorized digital retailer
A legitimate digital seller normally displays the code in your order history, purchase confirmation, or delivery email. Before buying, verify that the listing explicitly says it is for Euro Truck Simulator 2, the base game if that is what you need, and Steam if Steam activation is intended.
An older SCS purchase
SCS’s support information says older digital purchases delivered the key by email after payment. Its historical delivery guidance described card and PayPal orders as immediate and bank-transfer orders as taking approximately three to five business days. Search the original inbox, spam folder, archived mail, and payment records rather than looking for a replacement code online.
How to activate an owned Steam key
- Open the Steam desktop client.
- Sign in to the Steam account that should own the game.
- Open the Games menu at the top.
- Select Activate a Product on Steam…
- Enter the code exactly as supplied.
- Complete the on-screen prompts.
- Check your Steam Library for Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Steam documents this route in Activating a Product on Steam. Steam also provides a browser-based registration option through that support flow.
Once redeemed, a Steam key cannot be reused on another account. You can install the game on another computer by signing in to the account that owns it. That is different from receiving multiple uses of the key. SCS also notes that Steam Family Sharing may be available for household sharing, subject to Steam’s current rules.
Using an old legacy ETS2 key
SCS states that legacy keys for Euro Truck Simulator 2, Going East!, and Scandinavia can also be used on Steam. If you do not want to move the license to Steam, SCS continues to provide a legacy activation path for existing owners.
The distinction matters:
- Steam key: redeemed once and tied to the Steam account that claims it.
- Legacy key: may support repeated activations within the same household under SCS’s stated legacy policy.
- Legacy download: an installation route for existing owners, not a free full copy and not a current product available for purchase.
SCS says the legacy version is no longer available for purchase. Its download page still shows older manual-download files, including a label for version 1.40.4.8. That label belongs to the legacy download path; it should not be presented as the current Steam game version. Steam updates the Steam version automatically.
Offline activation for existing owners
If you own a valid key but the gaming computer cannot connect to the internet, SCS documents an offline workflow:
- Launch ETS2 and begin activation while offline.
- Enter your owned product key when prompted.
- When the game reports that it cannot verify the key, confirm the prompt and continue to the profile screen.
- Exit the game.
- On Windows, locate
DocumentsEuro Truck Simulator 2activation.scb. - Move that file to an internet-connected computer.
- Upload it through SCS’s official offline activation page.
- Wait for the activation result. SCS says the process may take up to one minute.
- If the web form cannot be used, follow the email fallback instructions on the same SCS page.
activation.scb is generated after you enter an existing key. It is not a product key, a key generator, or a way to obtain the game without ownership. Upload only the file requested by SCS; never send your Steam password, recovery code, or payment details to a key-list website.
Fixing common activation errors
| Message | Likely meaning | Correct next step |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid Product Code | The code may be mistyped, damaged, intended for another platform or product, fake, incomplete, or region-restricted. | Check the code carefully, then contact the retailer or seller. |
| Duplicate Product Code | The key has already been redeemed by a Steam account. | Recover the original Steam account or contact the seller if you never used the key. |
| Game not available in your territory | The key has a regional restriction. | Request a refund or replacement from the seller. Do not use a VPN to disguise your location. |
| The game later disappears | The publisher or Steam revoked the key, potentially because it was obtained through fraudulent means. | Seek a refund from the third-party seller or purchase through Steam. |
| No key visible in Steam | The game may not expose a separate CD key because ownership is account-based. | Check Library → right-click the game → Manage → CD keys, if that option exists. |
Invalid Product Code
Steam recommends checking commonly confused characters, including 0/O/Q/D, 1/I/L, B/8, and G/6. Also confirm that you are entering an ETS2 key rather than a DLC code or a key for a different platform.
If the code remains invalid, Steam directs retail-key buyers to the retailer. Steam generally does not issue replacement keys for retail purchases. See Steam’s retail CD-key guidance and its invalid-key support page.
Duplicate Product Code
A duplicate message means the code is already associated with a Steam account; attempting it again will not transfer the game to you. If you bought the key from a seller and never redeemed it, preserve your receipt and contact that seller. Steam’s duplicate-key guidance explains that retail-key replacement must be handled by the seller.
Region restriction
Steam says regional restrictions vary by publisher. Steam cannot remove the restriction, so the remedy is to ask the seller for a refund or replacement. Do not recommend or attempt a VPN workaround: Steam warns that disguising your location to redeem a restricted gift violates its rules and may result in account restrictions. See Steam’s region-restriction guidance.
Revoked ownership
A key can work at first and later be revoked if Steam or the publisher determines that it was obtained fraudulently. Steam removes the key from the account and directs buyers of third-party keys to seek a refund from the seller. See Steam’s revoked-key guidance.

Missing key
For games that expose a separate CD key, Steam suggests checking Library → right-click the game → Manage → CD keys. That option is not available for every game, and not every game requires a separate key. For a missing boxed key, Steam directs buyers to the retail store for an exchange or refund. Details are in Steam’s missing-CD-key guidance.
What to do with an old disc copy
- Inspect the box, manual, sticker, card, and disc insert for the original code.
- Check whether the edition is marked for Steam activation.
- If it is a supported legacy ETS2, Going East!, or Scandinavia key, try the Steam activation path.
- If the key is damaged, photograph the packaging and contact the retailer or SCS support.
- If Steam reports that the key was already redeemed, recover the original Steam account instead of trying to redeem it repeatedly.
An old installer or a PDF containing copied codes is not equivalent to the current Steam version. Existing owners can consult SCS’s support page for the applicable legacy options.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why “ETS2 product keys list” pages are unreliable
The exact-match result for this search is a user-uploaded PDFCoffee page that describes itself as an updated key list. It does not provide publisher confirmation, retailer records, purchase evidence, edition details, region information, or a way to establish that any displayed code is unused. Its existence is evidence that the search phrase is associated with a key dump, not evidence that the codes work. See the PDFCoffee page, but do not treat it as an authoritative source.
A copied list can contain codes that are:
- already redeemed;
- repeated from older lists;
- revoked after fraudulent payment;
- for a DLC rather than the base game;
- restricted to another region;
- for the legacy edition rather than Steam; or
- incomplete, mistyped, or entirely fabricated.
Pages promising a “key generator,” “crack,” or “key activator” are not official activation methods. Do not enter your Steam credentials, recovery codes, card information, or personal details on them, and do not download an executable merely because it claims to reveal a key. The issue is not that every such page can be proven malicious; it is that the source offers no reliable ownership, validity, or seller recourse.
Base-game keys and DLC keys are different
Do not assume that an ETS2 base-game key unlocks expansions. Steam lists the base game and its map, cargo, tuning, and paint-job expansions as separate products and bundles. Before redeeming a code, compare the exact product name in the retailer’s order page with the product you intend to own. The official Steam listing shows the separation between ETS2 and its additional content.
The legal free alternative: the official demo
SCS offers an official free ETS2 trial/demo through its download page. It is the appropriate option if you want to test the game without buying or activating a product key. The demo is not the same as owning the full game, but it avoids the risks of unverified codes. For the full version, SCS directs players to Steam.
A practical recovery checklist
- Identify where the key came from: Steam, boxed retail, an authorized digital seller, or an older SCS purchase.
- Search the original email, spam folder, order history, physical packaging, and Steam Library.
- Confirm the exact product: ETS2 base game, DLC, legacy edition, or Steam edition.
- Confirm the intended region and platform.
- Re-enter the code once carefully, checking ambiguous characters.
- If it is invalid, contact the seller with your receipt and photographs of the code or packaging.
- If it is duplicate, identify and recover the Steam account that originally redeemed it.
- If it is region-restricted, request a refund or replacement instead of bypassing the restriction.
- If it is revoked, pursue the third-party seller for a refund or buy through Steam.
- If you own a legacy copy but the gaming computer is offline, use SCS’s
activation.scbprocedure.
Do not repeatedly test codes from public lists. A redemption attempt cannot establish lawful ownership, and failed attempts do not turn an unverified code into a legitimate license.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a free Euro Truck Simulator 2 product key?
No. SCS does not publish a public list of reusable ETS2 keys. A legitimate key comes from a specific purchase and may be limited by platform, edition, region, or prior redemption.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

No. A Steam key is redeemed once and tied to the Steam account that activates it. You can reinstall ETS2 without another key by signing in to that same account.
Can I activate an old ETS2 key on Steam?
SCS states that supported legacy keys for ETS2, Going East!, and Scandinavia can also be used on Steam. Existing owners may alternatively use SCS’s legacy activation system.
Where is the key in an old boxed copy?
Check the box, manual, sticker, card, and disc insert. If the code is missing or unreadable, contact the retailer with proof of purchase and photographs of the packaging.
What does “Duplicate Product Code” mean?

What should I do if my ETS2 key is invalid?
Check commonly confused characters such as 0/O/Q/D, 1/I/L, B/8, and G/6. If the code still fails, contact the retailer; Steam generally does not replace retail keys.
Can I use an ETS2 key from another country?
Do not use a VPN to bypass the restriction. Steam says regional restrictions vary and directs buyers to request a refund or replacement from the seller.
Is activation.scb an ETS2 product key?
No. activation.scb is an offline-activation file generated after you enter an owned key. It is not a product key or a way to obtain the game for free.
Does the ETS2 base-game key unlock DLC?
No assumption is safe. Steam lists the base game and DLC as separate products, so check the exact product name before redeeming a code.
