eventaggregation.dll is a legitimate Microsoft Windows component, not a Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or game runtime file. If Windows reports that eventaggregation.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
What is eventaggregation.dll?
The file’s embedded description is Event Aggregation User Mode Library. Microsoft file inventories identify it as part of Microsoft Windows, with historical entries for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. Public file inventories also show Windows 10-era copies, but the correct version, size, and architecture depend on the installed Windows build.

Microsoft controls the correct copy through Windows servicing. Its DLL loading documentation explains that Windows searches system and application directories in a defined order, so an incorrect copy beside an executable can also cause a load failure or create a security risk.
Quick identification
| Question | Safe conclusion |
|---|---|
| Is the file legitimate? | Yes, it is a real Microsoft Windows component. |
| Is it a Visual C++ runtime? | No. |
| Is it a DirectX or .NET file? | No. |
| Normal location | %SystemRoot%System32; a 32-bit variant may be in %SystemRoot%SysWOW64. |
| Should you download it separately? | No. Restore it through Windows repair tools. |
| Do Windows 10 and 11 use exactly the same copy? | Do not assume that. Build, edition, and architecture determine the correct file. |
A historical Microsoft Windows 8.1 inventory lists different x86 and x64 versions and sizes. Those figures should not be used as a universal target for Windows 10 or Windows 11.
What the error message means
You may see messages such as:
The code execution cannot proceed because EventAggregation.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
or:
EventAggregation.dll was not found.
Another possible message is:
EventAggregation.dll is either not designed to run on Windows
or it contains an error.
These are Windows loader messages. They do not prove that the application named in the dialog owns the DLL. The underlying problem may be a damaged Windows component, an interrupted update, antivirus quarantine, malware remediation, disk corruption, or an incorrect copy being loaded from an application folder.
If only one program shows the error while Windows and other applications work normally, that program may have a damaged installation or an incompatible dependency. If several programs fail, or Windows features also behave abnormally, investigate Windows itself first.
Fix 1: Install updates and restart
Pending updates can leave Windows components in an incomplete servicing state.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Test the application again.
On Windows 10, open Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update and select Check for updates.
If the error began immediately after an update, note the update history before removing anything. Do not remove updates at random. If the failure started directly after a recent system change, System Restore may be safer than manually deleting Windows files.

Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the primary repair for a missing or damaged eventaggregation.dll. Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Choose Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Enter this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause temporarily.
When DISM completes successfully, run SFC in the same administrator window:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test the affected program.
How to interpret the result
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: SFC found no damaged protected files. Check the application-specific steps below and verify the file path shown by the error.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and test again. This is a strong indication that Windows corruption caused the failure.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. If the problem persists, use a matching repair source or continue to the Windows repair options later in this guide.
- DISM cannot find source files: Windows Update may not be providing usable repair files. Microsoft documents using a matching installation source with a command like this:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace the example path only with a real repair source that matches the installed Windows edition and build. Do not guess the path or use files from an unrelated release.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Repeating SFC without recording what changed can make diagnosis difficult. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows problems and show what needs attention; the repair is performed by the full version, while repairing the component with DISM and SFC remains the appropriate Microsoft-supported path.
Fix 3: Check Defender Protection History
Antivirus software can quarantine a file during malware cleanup. That is a possibility to investigate, not proof that antivirus caused the problem.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review detections that mention
eventaggregation.dll. - Check the original file path and the detection details before taking action.
Do not immediately restore a quarantined file. If the path was outside the Windows directory, or the file was modified, treat it as suspicious. Microsoft warns that restoring a threat can cause Defender to detect it again.
If the file is confirmed as a genuine Microsoft copy but is missing from the Windows system directory, use DISM and SFC to restore Windows rather than restoring the quarantine item manually. If malware is suspected, update Defender and run a Full scan before repairing the component.
Fix 4: Check the file path and signature
The path in the error message provides important evidence.
A copy under %SystemRoot%System32 or %SystemRoot%SysWOW64 is consistent with a Windows component. A copy beside a game, installer, temporary folder, download directory, or unknown application deserves further investigation.
To inspect a visible file:
- Right-click
eventaggregation.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer is Microsoft.
A valid signature does not make an arbitrary copy safe to replace manually, and an absent signature is a reason to investigate rather than a command to delete the file. Record the exact path, signer, and file properties before making changes.
Fix 5: Repair the application if only one program fails
If Windows works normally and one application alone displays the error, repair that application before changing system directories.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair. Use Reset only if Repair does not help and you understand that it may remove application data.
- If no repair option exists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the application again from its official publisher or launcher.
- Install it and test it.
For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair function where available. Do not copy eventaggregation.dll from another computer into the game folder. A program-specific copy may be the wrong architecture or Windows build, and placing it beside an executable can alter DLL search behavior.
If reinstalling the application does not help, check whether the error path points to Windows or to the application directory. That distinction determines whether Windows repair or application repair should be the next step.

Fix 6: Check drivers only when the wider system is unstable
A driver is not the usual owner of eventaggregation.dll, but a recent driver or system change can coincide with Windows instability. Use Device Manager only when you also have display, storage, audio, network, or device failures.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the failing hardware.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties → Driver.
- Review the driver date and provider.
- Use Update Driver or install a matching driver from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove a working driver solely because this DLL error exists. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify the specific versions involved; driver installation is performed by the full version, and you should still use the hardware manufacturer’s package when it is available.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a Windows update, driver installation, cleanup utility, or other system change.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error started.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs without intentionally changing personal files. It does not replace a backup. If Windows will not boot normally, open Windows Recovery Environment and use Troubleshoot → Advanced options → System Restore.
Fix 8: Repair-install Windows if corruption persists
If DISM and SFC cannot repair the component, or SFC repairs it and the problem returns, back up important files and consider a repair reinstall.
On supported Windows 11 installations:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now, if available.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings.
If that option is unavailable, use matching Windows installation media:
- Start Windows normally.
- Open the installation media.
- Run
setup.exe. - Follow the setup prompts.
- Select Keep personal files and apps when asked.
Do not boot from the media and choose a clean installation unless you intend to remove the existing Windows installation. Verify the selected option carefully.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Unofficial DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong Windows build, or the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. Even a genuine file may not match the component store or the application that loads it. Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, or beside an executable can also create DLL preloading and search-order problems.
The safe sources are Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, Windows repair installation, and the official installer for an application that has its own damaged files.

Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide COM registration routines such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose DLL repair tool, and there is no verified basis for treating eventaggregation.dll as a self-registering COM server.
A command such as this is therefore normally inappropriate:
regsvr32 eventaggregation.dll
An entry-point error from regsvr32 does not diagnose or repair the missing component.
Do not reinstall unrelated runtimes first
Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET repairs are usually irrelevant to this Windows component. Consider those packages only when the complete error identifies a different missing runtime DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo not change Windows Features or Device Manager without a reason
Turning Windows Features on and off does not restore this protected DLL. Device Manager is relevant only when separate hardware or driver symptoms point to a broader system problem.
Information to collect if the error remains
Before seeking further help, record:
- Windows edition, version, and build
- The complete error dialog text
- The application name
- The path shown in the error or file properties
- Whether the file exists in
System32orSysWOW64 - Whether its Microsoft digital signature is valid
- DISM and SFC result messages
- Relevant entries in Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application or System
- Any recent update, cleanup, antivirus, driver, or malware-removal event
This information distinguishes a missing Windows component from an application-specific failure and prevents unsafe trial-and-error file replacement.
FAQ
Is eventaggregation.dll malware?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows component. A copy in an unexpected directory, with an invalid signature or unexplained application ownership, should be investigated.
Does Windows 10 or Windows 11 use eventaggregation.dll?
Evidence confirms Windows 10-era copies and Microsoft documentation confirms earlier Windows versions. Do not assume that every Windows release, edition, or build contains the same file version.
Are two copies normal on 64-bit Windows?
A 64-bit system may have architecture-specific copies in System32 and SysWOW64. Their versions and sizes do not need to match.
Will reinstalling the game fix the error?
Only if that game is the application-specific source of the failure. If the missing file is the Windows copy or multiple programs fail, repair Windows with DISM and SFC instead.
Should I restore the file from antivirus quarantine?
Only after confirming the detection, original path, and authenticity. For a missing Microsoft system component, restoring Windows through DISM and SFC is safer than manually restoring a quarantine item.
