eventloghelper.dll is an ArcSoft Magic-i application file, not a normal Windows component. If eventloghelper.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall ArcSoft Magic-i or the OEM webcam software package that installed it.
Do not begin by downloading the DLL into C:WindowsSystem32. A standalone copy may be the wrong build, the wrong architecture, tampered with, or missing other files that Magic-i needs.
What is eventloghelper.dll?
The file is identified as “Event Log Helper for Vista” and is associated with ArcSoft Magic-i, an older webcam and video-effects application from ArcSoft, Inc. Magic-i was also distributed with some branded webcam and notebook software bundles.
The error may appear when you start:
- ArcSoft Magic-i or Magic-i 3
- ArcSoft webcam software
- An OEM webcam utility that launches Magic-i
- A leftover startup entry from software that was only partially removed
Common messages include:
- “The program can’t start because eventloghelper.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting eventloghelper.dll.”
- “Error loading eventloghelper.dll.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because eventloghelper.dll was not found.”
- “eventloghelper.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording varies between Windows versions and applications. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that another dependency required by the application is missing.

Public file records describe this as an older 32-bit application DLL, but public listings are inconsistent about its architecture. Use the copy supplied with the affected application rather than guessing based on whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall ArcSoft Magic-i
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on whether the installer is already available.
This is the most likely and safest fix because it restores the DLL with Magic-i’s other files, settings, and dependencies.
Step 1: Identify the program that requests the file
- Read the complete error message and note the application name.
- If the name is not shown, close the message and identify which program failed immediately beforehand.
- Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
- Check the Target field and the Start in folder.
- Look for names such as
Magic-i,ArcSoft,WebCam Companion, or an OEM webcam utility.
You can also check installed programs:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for ArcSoft, Magic-i, or the name of the webcam software.
- On Windows 10, open Apps > Apps & features if the menu is arranged differently.
If the error appears during startup but no program opens, check the application’s shortcut and startup entries. A removed webcam application may have left behind a startup command that still tries to load the DLL.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteStep 2: Try the built-in repair option
If ArcSoft or the webcam package appears in Installed apps:
- Select the program’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the program again.
Older desktop applications may not show a Repair button in Settings. In that case:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the ArcSoft or webcam application.
- Look for Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart the computer.
If the program starts without the DLL message, the repair succeeded.
Step 3: Reinstall the complete package
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Save any webcam settings you need.
- In Installed apps or Programs and Features, select the affected ArcSoft or webcam software.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows even if the uninstaller does not request it.
- Reinstall from the original webcam CD, notebook recovery media, or the exact support package for your computer or webcam model.
- Restart Windows again.
- Test Magic-i or the webcam utility.
There is no current, verified ArcSoft Magic-i installer that should be treated as a universal download for every computer. The correct package may depend on the webcam or notebook model, so search the manufacturer’s support page using the exact model number.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo not install a newer, unrelated webcam application and assume it will provide eventloghelper.dll. The file belongs to the older application package that requested it.
If you no longer have the original installer
Check these locations:
- The computer manufacturer’s recovery partition
- Original recovery DVDs or application CDs
- A backup of the old program folder
- The exact model’s support page
- The webcam manufacturer’s archived software section
Avoid copying only eventloghelper.dll from another computer. Magic-i may also require configuration files, registry entries, codecs, and companion DLLs.

Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–15 minutes.
Antivirus software or a cleanup utility may have removed an old application file. This is only a possibility, not a confirmed universal cause.
Windows Security records recent detections in Protection history.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for ArcSoft, Magic-i, the webcam package, or the folder shown in the error.
- Open an entry to view its details.
Do not restore the file solely because its name is familiar. If Windows Security identifies it as a threat, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
If you have verified that the original installer or application file was incorrectly quarantined:
- Confirm that the installer came from the original media or the computer/webcam manufacturer.
- Scan the installer before running it.
- Restore or allow the item only if you understand the detection.
- Prefer reinstalling the complete trusted package instead of restoring one isolated DLL.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If the file is detected again after reinstalling, stop restoring it manually. Quarantine the file, scan the system, and obtain a clean copy of the full application package.
Fix 3: Reinstall the OEM webcam software package
Time needed: 15–45 minutes.
Magic-i was commonly bundled with webcam software supplied by notebook and webcam manufacturers. If the error appeared after a recovery, partial uninstall, or replacement of webcam software, reinstall the complete OEM package.
- Find the exact computer or webcam model.
- For a notebook, check the label on the underside or open Settings > System > About.
- For a USB webcam, check the casing, packaging, or Device Manager.
- Visit the manufacturer’s official support page using another working browser or computer if necessary.
- Search for the exact model.
- Open the Drivers, Software, or Downloads section.
- Look for the original webcam utility, camera application, or ArcSoft/Magic-i package.
- Download the package intended for your Windows version.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Test both the OEM webcam program and Magic-i, if both are present.
If the manufacturer provides several webcam packages, use the one listed for the original operating system or bundled software. A generic camera driver may make the camera work in Windows but will not necessarily restore Magic-i.
Fix 4: Check the application path and compatibility settings
Time needed: 5–10 minutes.
A program may fail if its folder was moved, renamed, or partially removed.
- Right-click the affected shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Target path.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Confirm that the application folder still exists.
- Do not move individual DLLs into another folder.
- If the shortcut points to a folder that no longer exists, uninstall the leftover entry and reinstall the application.
For an older program, compatibility settings may help with launching, but they will not recreate a missing DLL.
- Right-click the application executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the program’s original documentation requires it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the application.
If the error still names eventloghelper.dll, compatibility mode has not repaired the missing file. Return to the complete application reinstall.

Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5–15 minutes.
Many older webcam applications are 32-bit, even when installed on 64-bit Windows. A 32-bit application generally needs the 32-bit DLL supplied with that application. Windows being 64-bit does not mean that every DLL placed in a Windows folder will work.
Use these checks:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Open file location.
- Find the application executable.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab and review any available product information.
- Check the installer documentation or OEM package description.
Do not infer the DLL’s architecture from its filename or from an unlabeled download. Public listings for this particular file do not agree completely about architecture. The application’s original installer is the reliable way to obtain the matching build.
Do not copy a 32-bit application DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 by guesswork. Those folders are not interchangeable storage locations for arbitrary application files.
Fix 6: Investigate a missing dependency
Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
Sometimes Windows reports that a module could not be found even though the named DLL is present. The application may be missing a second DLL or runtime dependency.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

First, read the complete error carefully. If it names another file, investigate that file specifically.
Examples include:
MSVCP*.dllorMSVCR*.dll: a Visual C++ runtime may be missingVCRUNTIME*.dll: a Visual C++ runtime may be missingD3DX*.dll: an older DirectX component may be required- Another ArcSoft or webcam DLL: the application installation is incomplete
Do not install every Microsoft runtime package at random. eventloghelper.dll itself is identified as an ArcSoft application file, not as a Visual C++ or DirectX component.
If the error specifically identifies a legacy DirectX file, use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime. If it identifies a Visual C++ file, use the Microsoft runtime package appropriate for the application and architecture.
If reinstalling the complete Magic-i or OEM package restores all files, that remains the preferred solution.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–40 minutes.
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party ArcSoft DLL that was removed from an application folder, but they are useful if Windows itself has additional problems.
Use them when you also notice:
- Windows features failing to open
- Several unrelated system errors
- Damaged built-in applications
- Update failures
- System files missing outside the ArcSoft installation
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Leave the window open if the progress appears paused.
When DISM completes, restart Windows.
Run SFC
- Open Command Prompt as administrator again.
- Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Press Enter.
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the ArcSoft application.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Magic-i after restarting. If it reports that it found no integrity violations, the Windows system files are not the likely source of this application error. Reinstall Magic-i instead.

Repeatedly running DISM and SFC will not restore an application-private DLL that is absent from the ArcSoft folder.
If manually comparing long DISM and SFC results is becoming difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what needs attention; its full repair functions require the full version, and reinstalling Magic-i remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 8: Check Windows Features only when the error points there
Time needed: 5–10 minutes.
Windows Features are not a normal source of eventloghelper.dll, but an old application may require a legacy Windows component.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the available features.
- Enable a feature only when the application’s documentation or a separate error specifically requires it.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Do not enable random legacy components to solve this error. The file is associated with ArcSoft Magic-i, not with a standard Windows feature.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 9: Update or reinstall the webcam driver only for camera-wide problems
Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
A driver is unlikely to be the direct cause when Magic-i alone reports a missing eventloghelper.dll. Driver troubleshooting is appropriate when all camera applications fail, the camera is absent from Windows, or Device Manager reports a device error.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the webcam.
- Select Properties.
- Open the General tab and check the device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the camera.

For a complete reinstall:

Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers when identifying the correct OEM package manually is difficult; its full driver installation requires the full version, and a driver update will not replace the ArcSoft DLL when Magic-i itself is the damaged component.
Why regsvr32 is usually not the answer
regsvr32 is not a universal DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components.
There is no reliable evidence that eventloghelper.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX server. Running this command is therefore unlikely to repair the application:
regsvr32 eventloghelper.dll
It may produce an error such as “The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.” That does not prove the DLL is missing or damaged.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor’s instructions explicitly identify the DLL as a self-registering component and provide the correct command. For Magic-i, repair or reinstall the complete application instead.
What caused the error?
The likely causes, in practical order, are:
| Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| Incomplete or damaged Magic-i installation | Repair or reinstall Magic-i |
| OEM webcam software was removed | Reinstall the original manufacturer package |
| A cleanup tool removed an application file | Reinstall the complete application |
| Antivirus quarantine | Review Protection history and verify the installer |
| The application folder was moved or partially deleted | Restore the original path through a reinstall |
| Wrong application build or architecture | Use the package supplied for that webcam and application |
| Another dependency is missing | Read the complete error and identify the named dependency |
| Windows system corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Leftover startup entry | Remove the obsolete application or disable its startup entry |
| Malware or a tampered installer | Scan the system and obtain a clean package |
An update, antivirus product, or cleanup utility may be involved in an individual case, but there is no single confirmed trigger for every eventloghelper.dll error.

If reinstalling does not fix the problem
Find out which executable is requesting the file.
- Check the shortcut’s Target field.
- Check the application’s installation folder.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Windows + R, entering
eventvwr.msc, and pressing Enter. - Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error recorded at the time the program failed.
- Note the application name and faulting module.
- Check Windows Security Protection history again.
- Remove obsolete startup entries for software that is no longer installed.
If Magic-i fails but the webcam works in another application, replacing the webcam driver is unlikely to help. If every camera application fails, investigate the camera driver and hardware separately.
FAQ
Is eventloghelper.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No verified evidence shows that it is a Windows system DLL. Available file information identifies it as an ArcSoft Magic-i application component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Should I download eventloghelper.dll separately?
No. Random DLL download sites may provide malware, an incorrect build, or the wrong architecture. They also do not restore the application’s other files and settings. Use the original ArcSoft package, OEM recovery media, or the exact manufacturer support package.
Where should I put eventloghelper.dll?
Do not place it in System32 or SysWOW64 by guesswork. It normally belongs in the application directory selected by the Magic-i or OEM installer.
Do I need to install Visual C++ or DirectX?
Only if the complete error names a Visual C++ or DirectX file, or the application documentation specifically requires that runtime. Those packages do not normally provide eventloghelper.dll.
Will SFC fix this error?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while eventloghelper.dll is associated with third-party ArcSoft software. Run SFC when Windows has broader system problems, then reinstall Magic-i for the application error.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public records are not completely consistent. Treat the architecture as application-specific and obtain the file through the original installer. A 32-bit Magic-i installation generally needs its matching 32-bit application files even on 64-bit Windows.
Can I register the DLL with regsvr32?
Usually not. There is no reliable evidence that this helper DLL is a self-registering component. Reinstall the parent application instead.
What if the original webcam software is no longer available?
Search the computer or webcam manufacturer’s support page using the exact model number. You can also check original recovery media and backups. If no compatible package exists, the webcam may work with another application, but Magic-i itself may not be recoverable without its original software bundle.
