Battlefield 6’s core large-scale modes are Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough and Escalation. Its smaller multiplayer modes include Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, King of the Hill and Strikepoint. Carrier Strike is a later addition; Battlefield REDSEC has its own Battle Royale and Gauntlet modes, while Portal is a platform for community-made experiences rather than one fixed ruleset. Mode availability can change with playlists and live updates, so check the in-game listing for what is playable now.
All-Out Warfare: Battlefield 6’s large-scale modes
EA groups Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough and Escalation under All-Out Warfare, a family built around larger teams and expansive combat zones. Vehicle availability depends on the mode and map. EA’s Season 2 overview describes the lineup; the objectives distinguish each mode more clearly than their shared scale.
Conquest
Two teams capture and hold multiple control points spread around the map. Conquest suits players who want a broad territorial fight, with pressure moving between objectives rather than along one fixed route.
Rush
Rush is an asymmetric attack-and-defend mode built around M-COM communications systems. Attackers plant explosives and try to destroy objectives while managing limited lives; defenders have unlimited lives and try to defuse the charges. Destroying the M-COMs advances the fight to another sector.

Breakthrough
Breakthrough also pits attackers against defenders, but its objective is to capture control points across a series of sectors. Attackers must capture every point in a sector to advance; their limited lives reset after they take the whole sector. Defenders have unlimited lives.
Escalation
Teams capture strategic control points. As territory changes hands, fewer points remain, concentrating the fight around the final objectives. EA’s Season 2 description also notes shifting frontlines and reinforcement vehicles.
Smaller classic-style multiplayer modes
These modes offer shorter, more focused fights. Some are kill races; others still revolve around controlling objectives.

- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
King of the Hill
Teams contest a control point that moves during the match. Because the objective relocates, squads need to reposition instead of holding one location for the whole round.
Strikepoint
EA’s Season 2 lineup describes Strikepoint as a squad-versus-squad grudge match. The official description cited here does not establish a more detailed ruleset, so its exact mechanics should be checked in the game.

Rapid Royale
EA’s October 1, 2026 Season 5 preview describes Rapid Royale as a shorter, more intense way to play REDSEC Battle Royale. Treat it as a Battle Royale variant associated with the Season 5 rollout, not as a permanent core multiplayer mode; the preview notes that planned changes are subject to change.

REDSEC is a separate free-to-play Battlefield experience. EA identifies Battle Royale, Gauntlet and Portal as its main paths. The REDSEC FAQ and REDSEC home page describe the experience.

Gauntlet
Eight four-player squads compete in round-based elimination missions. Each round gives squads a five-minute window to complete its objective.
Portal
In REDSEC, Portal lets players discover and create community experiences using REDSEC content. It is one of the available paths in REDSEC, but it is not itself a single fixed mode with one objective.
Portal: a platform for community experiences
Portal extends beyond a preset playlist: players can browse community creations, modify existing modes or build substantially different experiences. EA distinguishes Verified Modes, which edit existing modes, from the more open-ended Custom creation path. See EA’s Portal 101 and EA Help’s Portal guide.

Which Battlefield 6 mode should you try?
- For uncomplicated infantry combat: Team Deathmatch focuses on eliminations and a team kill lead.
- For compact objective fights: Try Domination for fixed capture-and-hold points, or King of the Hill if you want the objective to move.
- For a broad battlefield: Choose Conquest, where teams contest points distributed across the map.
- For attacker-versus-defender pressure: Pick Rush for M-COM objectives or Breakthrough for a sector-by-sector push.
- For timed squad missions: Gauntlet puts squads into objective rounds with a five-minute window.
- For a tailored ruleset: Browse Portal for community experiences that fit your group.
These suggestions follow the modes’ stated objectives, not a claim of comparative testing. For any mode, distinguish its existence from its current playlist availability: live-service rotations and updates can change what is playable. EA’s Season 5 preview discusses planned changes, and the in-game playlist is the practical check for what is available at the time you play.
