Both add improved frame rates and resolution, faster loading, HDR support and ZELDA NOTES. You need a Nintendo Switch 2 to play either edition; an upgrade pack lets eligible owners update a copy of the original game.
Which Zelda games have Switch 2 enhancements?
Nintendo’s current Switch 2 Edition lineup for Zelda includes these two games:

| Game | Enhancements Nintendo lists | Additional detail |
|---|---|---|
| The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Improved frame rates and resolution, faster loading, HDR support and ZELDA NOTES. | Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as offering higher-definition, smoother visuals. |
| The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | Improved frame rates and resolution, faster loading, HDR support and ZELDA NOTES. | Includes a second save file. A save created in that additional file cannot be transferred to the original Switch version. |
Nintendo’s feature descriptions do not give specific resolution or frame-rate figures, or quantify how much faster loading is. The listed improvements are therefore qualitative, not a promise of a particular performance target.
How to get a Switch 2 Edition
You can buy a Switch 2 Edition outright or, if you own the matching original game, get its digital upgrade pack. The upgrade pack is not a standalone copy: the corresponding Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom game is required. Both editions can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.

- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*

- You own the original game: Buy the corresponding digital upgrade pack, or access it at no additional charge while eligible under an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
- You do not own the original game: Buy the Switch 2 Edition rather than an upgrade pack. Nintendo lists a physical Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition; check Nintendo’s current store listing for available formats and regional details.
- You have standard Nintendo Switch Online: Nintendo’s US Tears of the Kingdom upgrade-pack page says standard members may access the pack but must pay as non-members. Check the terms for the other game and your territory before assuming the same arrangement applies.
Nintendo Support lists the US Tears of the Kingdom upgrade pack at $9.99 USD. That figure is specific to the US listing; the cited information does not establish the price for every region or the price of the Breath of the Wild pack. Check your regional store for current pricing and membership terms.
