Here’s what each machine and power-system component documented in the available references does, and how the main processing chains fit together.
Crafting and production machines
Crafting stations make specific items; production machines process resources into ingredients or materials used elsewhere. The functions below are described in Aloft Wiki crafting and building references. Recipes and unlocks can vary by game version, and the references do not establish a complete, version-current inventory.
| Machine | What it does | Useful context |
|---|---|---|
| Workbench | Crafts tools and items that use up to five resources. | The crafting reference says its recipe unlocks from the first Knowledge Stone tech-tree point, typically on the first island. |
| Sawmill | Saws wood into planks. | Listed as a production machine in the building reference. |
| Millstone | Grinds plant materials and seeds into other materials, including cooking ingredients and seeds. | Listed outputs include flour and sugar; wind-powered automation is supported. |
| Pigment Pool | Extracts color from floral and mineral resources to make pigments. | Described in the building reference. |
| Flax Break | Breaks flax plants into fiber. | The crafting reference lists other fibers as outputs too; not every fiber is flax-derived. |
| Spinner | Converts thread into rope and other thread-related resources. | Listed outputs include rope, wool thread, and linen thread. |
| Loom | Weaves wool and linen cloth. | Cloth is used for better sails, and the loom can be automated by windmill. |
| Dew Catcher | Passively collects clean water from fog banks. | Listed as a machine unlocked through the Knowledge Stone tech tree. |
| Pottery Wheel | Makes uncooked pottery. | The crafting reference says it is found through Fresco Monuments and can be automated by windmill. |
| Kiln | Produces terracotta and clay flasks. | These are the outputs listed in the crafting reference. |
| Brewing Labs | Brew species-specific fungicides and cures. | Listed variants are Mykter, Sportox, and Flogade. |
| Flogade Distiller | Advanced distilling station for brewing Flogade cures. | Described in the building reference. |
How the resource-processing chains fit together
Several machines form useful links between gathered resources and materials for crafting or building. The references describe these roles and example outputs, but do not enumerate every recipe or every possible input-output combination.
Plant materials and ingredients
The Millstone processes plant materials and seeds into other materials, including cooking ingredients such as flour and sugar. It can also process seeds, and it supports wind-powered automation.

Fibers and textiles
The Flax Break turns flax plants into fiber. The Spinner handles thread-related processing, with listed outputs including rope, wool thread, and linen thread. The Loom then weaves wool and linen cloth; the building description notes that cloth is used for better sails.
Wood, color, pottery, and brewing
The Sawmill turns wood into planks, while the Pigment Pool makes pigments from floral and mineral resources. The Pottery Wheel makes uncooked pottery, and the Kiln produces terracotta and clay flasks. Brewing Labs make species-specific fungicides and cures; the Flogade Distiller is the advanced station for Flogade cures.

Windmills, connections, and automation
Windmills supply power to automate connected production workstations, and they can also power Resonators. The Aloft Steam store description summarizes the system as: “Install windmills and a network of cables and pulleys to automate your machines and production.” Aloft on Steam
Windmills
The windmill reference describes Leaf, Vertical Leaf, Vertical Wool, and Vertical Linen windmills. Their stated generation ranges from small/constant through average/constant to large/constant. Choose and connect them with the output, wind or placement requirements, and number and type of connected machines in mind; the reference does not provide enough detail here to give a complete numerical comparison.

Windmill Connector
A Windmill Connector extends a connection between a windmill and a machine or Resonator. It carries the connection; it does not process a recipe itself.
Emberstone Resonator
An Emberstone Resonator uses wind power to activate Pyrologic Power and Condition Modules in an area. The building reference says a large Resonator covers a large area and needs substantial wind power, making it part of the power system rather than a crafting station.

Unlocks and version-specific details
The crafting and building references describe some unlock routes: the Workbench recipe is tied to the first Knowledge Stone tech-tree point, Dew Catchers are unlocked through the Knowledge Stone tech tree, and the Pottery Wheel is found through Fresco Monuments. Because the wiki extracts do not provide a reliable version date for every machine page, use the in-game menus to confirm recipes, requirements, and unlock routes for your game version.
The references document the machines above, but do not establish that this is every machine, recipe, or unlock currently in Aloft. Treat this as a guide to the documented functions, not a guaranteed exhaustive inventory.
