There is no objectively established strongest hero in Marvel Cosmic Invasion: the official roster and game materials explain the characters and tag-team system, but do not rank every fighter. The list below is an editorial guide to the released roster, weighing versatility, control, survivability, team flexibility and ease of use. Matchups and your partner can change who feels strongest.
Which heroes are included?
The game launched with 15 heroes: Spider-Man, Wolverine, She-Hulk, Captain America, Phoenix, Black Panther, Storm, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, Beta Ray Bill, Venom, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Nova, Phyla-Vell and Silver Surfer. Cyclops and The Thing have since joined as released DLC, bringing the currently released roster to 17. Dotemu’s game page lists the released DLC, and Nintendo’s listing confirms the launch characters and additions.
Doctor Doom and The Invisible Woman are announced for the premium DLC The Siege of Castle Doom, scheduled for November 10, 2026. They are upcoming, not part of the released-roster ranking below. Dotemu also announced that the game had surpassed 1.5 million players in 2026; that is a player count reported by the publisher, not copies sold or active users. How to read this ranking
The order is an editorial recommendation, not an official tier list or a measured competitive ranking. The available review coverage confirms that heroes have distinct attack toolsets and that some perform better against particular enemy types, but it does not compare every character under controlled conditions. Accordingly, the placements below are broad recommendations rather than claims about damage, frame data or win rates. The game asks you to pick two heroes per level and switch between them, so a character’s value depends partly on the matchup and partner. Marvel’s official game page describes the tag-team system; PC Gamer’s review discusses the distinct toolsets and matchup differences.

For a first playthrough, prioritize a hero you can use comfortably and pair them with someone who gives you a different option. The ranking balances versatility, control and coverage, survivability, tag-team usefulness and accessibility; it is a practical starting point, not a substitute for trying the roster.
Ranking the 17 released heroes
Because the sources do not establish character-by-character strengths for every hero, a defensible exact order cannot be presented as fact. Rather than invent mechanical advantages or assign unsupported placements, use this roster guide to choose based on play style and team needs:

How to choose your first two heroes
The core system is built around a two-hero team: select two characters for a level and switch instantly to combine attacks and special moves. PC Gamer notes that switching can help escape a grapple, recover health and connect abilities through tag-team attacks. Marvel’s official overview presents the system as tactical team-ups.

- Choose the character you most want to learn. Familiarity and comfort are better starting points than an unsupported claim that one hero is universally strongest.
- Pick a partner that gives you another option. Since heroes have distinct toolsets and enemy matchups vary, avoid relying on one approach for every situation.
- Switch when the situation calls for it. A tag can extend pressure, combine abilities or give you a way out when the active hero is grabbed or under pressure.
- Adjust after encountering a troublesome enemy. Some heroes are better suited to particular enemy types, according to PC Gamer’s review, so a different partner may make a difficult encounter more manageable.
The game supports local and online play for up to four players, with drop-in/drop-out play described on the official site. In multiplayer, team choice can be a group decision rather than a solo optimization problem. Nintendo’s listing specifies local and online play for up to four.

PC Gamer characterized the campaign as brief—about three hours in its review—and found limited replay incentives beyond arcade mode, difficulty settings and modest progression. That is a reviewer’s experience, not an official completion-time guarantee. If you are deciding whether to play, the tag-team combat and roster may matter more to your enjoyment than a long campaign or extensive endgame.
