Silent Hill f has five endings: four story endings and a UFO joke ending. The first is automatic; the other routes hinge on Red Capsules, the Sacred Sword’s state, and—in the true-ending route—two previously completed endings.
How many endings does Silent Hill f have?
Valve’s current Steam listing gives the game five endings. The ending guide names them Coming Home to Roost, Fox’s Wedding, The Fox Wets Its Tail, Ebisugaoka in Silence, and The Great Space Invasion! (the UFO ending). Your route locks when you enter the Shimizu residence.

Alternate-ending clues appear on the main menu after the first completion, according to the ending guide. The practical branching therefore starts in New Game+.
How to unlock each ending
Coming Home to Roost
Complete the story on your first run without pursuing a special ending condition. On later runs, this ending serves as the fallback when a required condition for another branch is missed.

Fox’s Wedding
Do not take Red Capsules. Obtain Agura no Hotei-sama, then either skip the Sacred Sword or purify it. If you take the sword route, finish the Crimson Water bell puzzle before purifying the sword at the old Oinari-sama shrine.
To obtain the Sacred Sword, give the five items to Jizo statues: a Faded Bride Doll, Rusted Flask, Broken Japanese Geta Sandal, Cracked Hibachi Brazier, and Dad’s Old Kitchen Knife. After all five offerings, the guide places the sword at the divine tree in the forgotten shrine.
The Fox Wets Its Tail
Avoid Red Capsules and obtain the Sacred Sword, but do not purify it. The Crimson Water puzzle can be skipped if this is your only target; the guide identifies the unpurified sword as the deciding state for this ending.

Ebisugaoka in Silence
This is the route guide’s true ending and its most demanding branch. First complete two different full endings; the guide gives Coming Home to Roost plus either Fox’s Wedding or The Fox Wets Its Tail as a qualifying combination. Then, on New Game++, avoid Red Capsules, obtain and purify the Sacred Sword, and offer the Brooch to the hidden Jizo statue on the mountain road before entering the Shimizu residence.
Silent Hill Memories’ current ending guide sets the practical minimum at three full playthroughs. PowerPyx (2025) distinguishes that from the clear-file banner: manual saves can earn all five ending trophies in three runs, but displaying all five endings as completed on one banner requires five full playthroughs.
The Great Space Invasion! (UFO)
This series-style joke ending is available during New Game+. Listen to the UFO radio broadcast, then inspect the posters in this order:
- The poster in the crop-field shed.
- The poster beside the Hokora shrine past the bridge.
- The poster on the building in the alley near Chizuruya General Store.
After the third poster, return to the general-store street and inspect the movie review beside the toy UFO.

How to plan runs for all five endings
A straightforward plan is to use the first playthrough for the automatic ending, then use New Game+ saves to branch between the UFO route and the two sword outcomes. Start New Game++ only after you have completed two different endings, since the true-ending route requires that progression.

Before entering the Shimizu residence, confirm that the route you want is still possible: Red Capsule use and whether the sword is purified can decide the outcome. For Fox’s Wedding and The Fox Wets Its Tail, a save before purification lets you branch between the purified and unpurified outcomes. For the true ending, make sure the Brooch has been offered at the hidden mountain-road Jizo before entering the residence.
Patch behavior can affect capsule availability. Konami’s Patch 1.11 notes that, in New Game+, obtaining Shu’s house keys without using Red Capsules removes the Red Capsule placements; the patch describes this as intended to trigger the no-Red-Capsule condition for certain endings.

Which ending is the true or good ending?
Ebisugaoka in Silence is labeled the true ending by the route guide, but that label describes its unlock path; it does not make the other endings meaningless or prove that they are simply false. PC Gamer characterizes the structure as four proper endings plus the UFO joke ending and says there is no cut-and-dried good ending.
That distinction matters when comparing the routes. You can consider how much agency Hinako has, what each route reveals about her family and the town, and whether it embraces or rejects the fox-mask and cult framework. Those are interpretive lenses, not a source-established ranking. In an interview quoted by PC Gamer in 2026, the director said: “There is no one right answer or ‘good’ ending, that’s for the player to decide.”
