Spoilers for the full game. In Slay the Princess, a route conclusion is not always the end of the story: most Princess forms feed into a later Shifting Mound finale. The clearest way to follow the endings is to separate the early reward ending, chapter routes, and the late-game outcomes. The Pristine Cut added content, so older guides do not provide a definitive count of all current endings or variations.
How endings work in Slay the Princess
Your decisions about entering the cabin, taking the blade, helping or fighting the Princess, and obeying or resisting the Narrator shape the route that follows. Most route conclusions deliver that chapter’s Princess form to the Shifting Mound and send you into another loop; they are not necessarily final credits outcomes. After gathering enough distinct forms, you reach the broader finale. The developer describes the game as having “a half-dozen fully-fleshed endings” plus route variations, but that promotional wording is not a current audited total. Black Tabby Games’ press kit
- Early ending: kill the Princess at the first opportunity and accept the Narrator’s reward.
- Route conclusion: reach a Princess form and resolve its chapter. This usually contributes a vessel to the larger story.
- Finale: after enough forms have been gathered, decide what to do in the Shifting Mound and heart sequence.
These layers matter when comparing ending counts: route conclusions, late-game outcomes, dialogue variations, and achievements are different things. The 2023 guides below predate The Pristine Cut and should not be treated as a complete current catalog.
How to unlock the early “Good” ending
This is the quickest ending described in the walkthroughs, and it stops the story before the usual vessel-collection route.

How to access representative story routes
The following are route-entry patterns, not instructions for every ending variation within each chapter. Choices during the encounter can create additional branches. The walkthroughs are from 2023; later Pristine Cut content expands the game.

| Route or outcome | Choice pattern to reach it | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| The Stranger | Refuse to enter the cabin. Keep walking back down the path until the scene goes dark. | A Stranger-first run can affect a later finale variation. |
| The Prisoner | Take the knife, speak to the Princess, and try to help her escape. Resist the Narrator when he repeatedly prompts you to kill her. | This is a help-and-resistance route. |
| The Damsel | Follow the escape-and-resistance pattern without taking the knife. | The initial blade choice changes the route. |
| The Adversary | Take the knife, talk to the Princess, attack her, and choose to finish the fight when prompted. | Committing to the fight leads to this route. |
| The Beast | Enter without the knife and try to free the Princess. When the knife falls, attack; then give up during the fight. | The walkthrough describes the next setting as a wilderness-like cabin before the Beast chapter. |
These entry patterns come from KeenGamer’s story-route walkthrough. It also covers routes including The Thorn, Burned Grey, Drowned Grey, Wraith, Eye of the Needle, Fury, Wild, Den, Moment of Clarity, and Apotheosis, but its 2023 coverage predates The Pristine Cut and is not an exhaustive current route list.
How to reach the Shifting Mound finale
In the usual progression, repeated loops deliver distinct Princess forms to the Shifting Mound. Once you have gathered enough, the game moves into its late-game sequence. A 2023 Destructoid guide says four routes are enough for the finale; a 2026 overview describes the general requirement as gathering enough distinct vessels. Because the sources do not establish one count that applies to every version and special outcome, treat four as that older guide’s route threshold, not a universal rule.

What The Pristine Cut changes—and what remains uncertain
The Pristine Cut added vessel perspectives named The Cage, The Princess and the Dragon, and Happily Ever After, expanded existing routes, and introduced a “Your New World” ending, according to a search-result excerpt from the Slay the Princess Wiki’s endings page. That page could not be checked directly, so these details—and especially its achievement recipes—should be treated as secondary-source reports rather than verified step-by-step unlock instructions.
The same excerpt reports that “Your New World” requires bringing all five vessels through violent or hostile outcomes and choosing every red or violent argument option in the Shifting Mound confrontation. It also lists late-game outcomes or achievements involving awakening with the Shifting Mound, agreeing after reviewing five perspectives, giving the heart the Pristine Blade, slaying the heart, slaying it after making enemies of the Voices, leaving the cabin with the heart, and a Stranger-first variation. Since the source was accessible only as a search excerpt, the exact requirements for these outcomes are not established here; verify them in-game rather than relying on this reported recipe for an achievement run.

Choosing a route for the ending you want
- For the early credits outcome: take the knife, kill the Princess immediately, and accept the Narrator’s reward.
- For a route chapter: use the entry pattern for a route such as Prisoner, Damsel, Adversary, or Beast, then pay attention to the choices within that encounter.
- For the broader finale: continue through loops and deliver distinct Princess forms; the exact threshold may vary by version or special outcome.
- For a specific Pristine Cut achievement: do not assume a route label alone guarantees it. The available secondary report does not verify the precise conditions.
