Its biggest talking points included the Sekiro anime Sekiro: No Death, a new Ghost of Yōtei trailer and its cooperative Legends mode, and updates on Resident Evil Requiem, Hollow Knight: Silksong and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The showcase also mixed new game reveals with trailers, release and platform news, expansions, crossovers and a television teaser.
What were the biggest Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 announcements?
- Sekiro: No Death: An anime adaptation inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was revealed.
- Ghost of Yōtei: A new trailer was shown, alongside the announcement of Legends, a cooperative multiplayer mode planned for 2026.
- Resident Evil Requiem: The presentation included a story sequence for Capcom’s upcoming entry.
- Hollow Knight: Silksong: The contemporaneous event roundup listed the game as launching in 2025.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7: It received a major showcase update and was among the leading titles featured by Xbox in its recap.
These were highlights within a broad presentation, not the whole slate. Gamescom’s other programming and Xbox’s later broadcasts were separate from the August 19 Opening Night Live show.
What is Ghost of Yōtei Legends?
Legends is a cooperative mode for Ghost of Yōtei, the PS5 game. PlayStation announced on August 19, 2025 that the mode was planned for 2026 and would be free for owners of the base game. The announcement specified two-player story missions and four-player survival matches. PlayStation described it as a fantastical, supernatural contrast to the main game’s grounded setting.
PlayStation’s current game page also describes Story, Survival and Incursion mission types, as well as four character classes. Those details appear on the later page and should not be mistaken for features all shown during the 2025 showcase. See PlayStation’s Gamescom announcement and the official Ghost of Yōtei page for the mode’s current details.

How to read the announcement list
Opening Night Live was a single presentation within a larger Gamescom week. Its announcements ranged from brand-new titles to updates for games already known, and an appearance at the show does not by itself establish a final release date or platform. For a broader roundup and event context, see TechRadar’s Opening Night Live 2025 roundup. Alternate lists from Pocket Tactics and Siliconera organize the show differently, including platform and window information, so individual details should be checked against the relevant publisher’s latest announcement.
