Minecraft LIVE took place on March 22, 2025, with Mojang outlining a shift to more frequent “Game Drops” and previewing new Minecraft content. The first drop, Spring to Life, arrived March 25. The show also revealed Vibrant Visuals, previewed a ghast-themed drop, and announced a limited-time Bedrock movie event. Some of those segments were previews, not releases available on the day of the broadcast.
What Mojang announced about Minecraft updates
Mojang said it would release features more frequently through “Game Drops” and hold Minecraft LIVE twice a year. The March show introduced that approach and covered the first 2025 drop, a visual enhancement, and a preview of another drop. The official Minecraft LIVE 2025 recap also featured the return of the Tinies—animated miniature versions of Vu Bui, Agnes Larsson, and Jens “Jeb” Bergensten—along with an Element Animation segment and a post-show called The Deep Dig.

Spring to Life: the first 2025 Game Drop
Mojang announced Spring to Life as the year’s first drop, with availability set for March 25, 2025. The release article confirms it was playable that day. Its changes add biome-linked animal variants and ambient details across the Overworld.
- Animal variants: Pigs, cows, and chickens gained warm and cold variants associated with sandy and chilly biomes. Sheep wool colors became more dependent on biome: brown sheep generally appear in sandy areas, black sheep in chilly areas, and white sheep in green areas.
- Wolf sounds: Wolves gained seven sound personalities.
- Overworld atmosphere: New details include falling leaves, whispers of sand, firefly bushes, wildflowers, and cactus flowers, alongside other sounds and plants.
- Spawn eggs: Their textures were revised to reflect the characteristics of the mobs they summon.
- Lodestone recipe: The crafting recipe was simplified to an iron ingot and chiseled bricks.

Vibrant Visuals: a visual enhancement for Bedrock first
Vibrant Visuals was presented as a way to add visual depth while keeping Minecraft’s recognizable style. Mojang highlighted pixelated shadows and improved water effects in its recap. In Xbox Wire’s March 25, 2025 feature, Microsoft described directional lighting and volumetric fog, and said players could enable the mode with a menu toggle. The announcement said it would arrive free in Bedrock Edition on compatible devices first, with a Java Edition release planned for a future date; it did not make Java availability part of the March launch.
The Xbox Wire article also documented compatibility limits at the time it was published: worlds and texture packs were not compatible with Vibrant Visuals, local split-screen was unsupported while the mode was active, and performance could degrade on Xbox One and Xbox One S. Those details are not a current compatibility guarantee; check current platform support before choosing the mode for a particular device or world. The available announcement does not establish a need to buy a new console or accessory.

Happy ghast and Player Locator bar: what was previewed
Mojang previewed a second 2025 Game Drop built around the ghast family. In the segment, a dried ghast found in the Nether could be brought to the Overworld and rehydrated into a ghastling, which would grow into a friendly happy ghast. Mojang showed players using a harness to fly on the happy ghast, with up to three friends aboard, and building from its back.
The show also covered a Player Locator bar, which the recap said was already in testing at the time. These were event announcements and previews, not claims that the features were released on March 22.

A Minecraft Movie clip and Bedrock event
Emma Myers, who played Natalie in A Minecraft Movie, introduced an exclusive clip and discussed the film set. The March recap promoted an April 4, 2025 premiere.
Mojang also announced an in-game event running March 25 through April 7, 2025. The movie-inspired mini-games and challenges asked players to save Midport from a piglin attack. The recap said completing all challenges awarded a cape that could be unlocked in both Java and Bedrock for the same account. Participation required Bedrock Edition, sold separately, and an internet connection. That announced event window has passed.

The Tinies explained the new release approach, while Element Animation followed a wandering trader through features from Spring to Life. The Deep Dig after-show revisited the drop, showed a happy ghast ride, and played a challenge from the upcoming movie event with Mojang staff and guests. The Minecraft verified YouTube channel’s March 2025 LIVE video listing identifies the broadcast date as March 22, 2025.
