It adds an adventure in Hyperspace Lumiose, new Pokémon encounters and Mega Evolutions, plus Holo-X and Holo-Y outfits. You need the base game, and you must finish its main story before beginning the DLC story.
What does Mega Dimension add?
The story continues after the main adventure in Lumiose City. Space-time distortions open into Hyperspace Lumiose, a strange alternate version of the city. Ansha, a mysterious girl accompanied by the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa, is central to the story setup. The Pokémon Company describes the distortions appearing in Lumiose and Ansha and Hoopa leading you into one.

Explore Hyperspace Lumiose with donuts
Nintendo’s official DLC description says that donuts are the key to entering the distorted city. Its overview also highlights donuts with different effects in hyperspace. This is an overview of the central hook, not a complete list of donut effects or other mechanics.
Find rare Pokémon and face encounters above level 100
Nintendo highlights rare Pokémon not found in the base game’s encounters and powerful Pokémon above the usual level 100 cap. The official overview does not provide a complete roster, so these highlights should not be read as an exhaustive list of new species or encounters.
#1 Best Overall
- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
Discover new Mega Evolutions
Nintendo names Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y among the DLC’s features. In February 2026, The Pokémon Company announced Mega Garchomp Z as an additional discovery tied to a special distortion. The announcement says that this distortion requires the DLC and at least one completed hyperspace adventure; finding Mega Garchomp Z also leads to a Garchompite Z reward. See The Pokémon Company’s Mega Garchomp Z announcement for those conditions.
Use Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel in the base game
The DLC includes Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items. Unlike the story content, these cosmetics can be used in the base game right away, according to Nintendo’s DLC listing.
Rank #2
- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Do you need to finish Pokémon Legends: Z-A first?
Yes. You need a copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A to use Mega Dimension, and the game’s main story must be complete before you can start the DLC story. The apparel is an exception: Holo-X and Holo-Y can be used in the base game before beginning the expansion’s story. Nintendo Support’s compatibility and content information confirms the base-game requirement.
Does the DLC work on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2?
Nintendo Support lists Mega Dimension as compatible with both the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. In either case, the base game must also be present on the system. The Switch 2 Edition can run on the original Switch, but Switch 2-specific features are not available when playing it on that system, according to The Pokémon Company’s bundle announcement.

How to buy Mega Dimension
The DLC is a separate purchase for owners of the base game. As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo’s US listing showed a regular price of $29.99; that is a US product-page price and may change. Check Nintendo’s listing for current price and availability in your region.
Choose between separate DLC and the announced physical bundle
| Option | Who it suits | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Buy Mega Dimension separately | Players who already own the base game, including the Switch 2 Edition | The DLC; a base-game copy is still required. |
| Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle | Players considering the announced physical all-in-one release | The Switch 2 Edition game and DLC on one game card. The Pokémon Company announced an October 29, 2026 release; as of October 8, it was still upcoming. |
The Pokémon Company says owners of the Switch 2 Edition only need to buy Mega Dimension separately. Its announcement describes the bundle as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release that can also run on the original Switch, without Switch 2-specific features on that system. See the official bundle announcement for details.
Is the Alpha Charizard Mystery Gift still available?
No. The Alpha Charizard Mystery Gift promotion announced alongside the DLC ran through January 19, 2026, and has expired. The Pokémon Company’s December 2025 release notice gives the promotion period.
