It adds a trader in the Swamps, feasts, new skills and potions, and new homesteading tools and workstations. The most important change for returning players: uncooked food is now made at the Food Preparation Table, while mead bases are made at the Mead Ketill.
What the Bog Witch update added
Iron Gate’s abbreviated patch notes group the update’s additions into several categories. These are the counts listed in the official announcement, not a separate count of every recipe or sub-item.

The update’s main theme is life in and around the Swamps: finding a new trader, preparing food and mead at dedicated workstations, and improving cooking, farming, and crafting through new skills.
Where to make uncooked food and mead bases now
The Bog Witch update changed where these recipes are made. If you return to the Cauldron looking for them, use the new workstations instead:

The update adds both as workbenches. The Cauldron is no longer the workstation for these preparation steps.
What the new Swamp trader and Witch’s hut are for
The update introduces a trader in the Swamps who sells ingredients and materials used for potions and the feast mechanic. It also adds a Witch’s hut in the Swamps. The official launch notes establish these additions but do not give a complete item-by-item inventory or detailed hut mechanics.

How feasts work
Iron Gate describes feasts as “Large meals that last longer and can be shared among several people.” The update adds eight feasts. Their longer duration and shareability make them a group-oriented food option, distinct from simply preparing a meal for one player.

The three new skills improve different parts of preparation and base-building. According to Iron Gate’s launch notes:

- Cooking reduces the time needed to craft food and gives a chance to produce one extra food item while crafting.
- Farming reduces Cultivator stamina use, increases the durability of farming items, and can yield bonus crops.
- Crafting reduces crafting time, increases the durability of crafting items, and reduces the stamina cost of placing build pieces.
A later patch adjusted how Crafting works: patch 0.219.16 removed its bonus yield on armor and weapons. That correction is separate from the launch notes’ listed skill effects.
New tools, workbenches, and event
Serving Tray and Scythe
The two new tools are the Serving Tray and Scythe. The Serving Tray lets players place consumable items like build pieces; the Scythe speeds up crop harvesting.

Food Preparation Table and Mead Ketill
These new workbenches support the revised preparation workflow: uncooked food at the Food Preparation Table and mead bases at the Mead Ketill.
Ghosts event
The update adds the Ghosts event. The official abbreviated announcement identifies it as the update’s one new event but does not detail its trigger or encounter rules.

What changed in follow-up patch 0.219.16
Iron Gate released patch 0.219.16 on November 19, 2024. Its notes include several fixes and adjustments relevant to players using the Bog Witch content:
- Gamepad navigation and input fixes.
- Reduced stuttering near the Bog Witch hut.
- Fixes for skill behavior, including removing Crafting’s bonus yield on armor and weapons.
- Food placement without cost is governed by the “No Craft Cost” world modifier, not “No Build Cost.”
- The Asksvin Cape was reworked to increase run speed and reduce running stamina use.
These are follow-up changes; they do not alter the update’s central workstation shift for uncooked food and mead bases.
Release date and what the official notes establish
The update first appeared on Valheim’s Public Test Branch before its general release. Iron Gate’s October 29, 2024 announcement says patch 0.219.13 was then released to everyone. The follow-up patch notes are dated November 19, 2024.
The official notes summarize the additions and selected fixes, but they do not provide a complete platform-by-platform availability matrix or every item and skill balance value. For the listed launch features and later fixes, see Iron Gate’s Bog Witch announcement and the 0.219.16 patch notes.
