Destiny 2: The Final Shape is a released expansion that brings the Guardian and their allies into the Traveler to confront the Witness. It launched on June 4, 2024, adding the Pale Heart destination, a campaign, the Salvation’s Edge raid, the Prismatic subclass, new class Supers and Exotic gear. The expansion was the centerpiece of Year 7, which ended when The Edge of Fate arrived in July 2025. As of Bungie’s June 9, 2026 update, planned live-service content updates for Destiny 2 have ended, although the game remains playable and Bungie may still issue health and stability hotfixes.
What is The Final Shape?
The Final Shape is the expansion that concludes Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness conflict. The Guardian follows the Witness into the Traveler, joined by allies, in a campaign about stopping the Witness from imposing its vision on reality. Bungie describes the expansion as the culmination of that long-running conflict (Bungie’s expansion page).
The expansion launched June 4, 2024. Its main additions are the campaign, the Pale Heart destination, the Salvation’s Edge raid, Prismatic, three class Supers, and new Exotic gear. Those features remain the best way to understand what the expansion offers; Year 7 Episodes and other time-sensitive progression systems belong to its original release period, not a current release schedule.
What is the Pale Heart?
The Pale Heart is a destination inside the Traveler, shaped by the Traveler and the history of the Light and Darkness conflict. The campaign initially guides players through it in a relatively linear sequence. After the campaign, more of the destination opens up, including additional places to explore, challenges and activities.

Among those activities is Overthrow, which Bungie describes as a fight to push back corruption in the Pale Heart. Destination ranks also become available after campaign completion. Bungie’s launch materials identified Pathfinder as a progression system for the Pale Heart and Ritual activities; exact progression details can change with game updates, so consult the current in-game interface for what is available now (Bungie’s launch guide; The Final Shape player guide).
How does the campaign work, and which difficulty should you choose?
Bungie offers two campaign difficulty choices. “Be Brave” is the classic difficulty. “Become Legend” is harder, with stronger combatants, and Bungie recommends it for experienced players with a broad arsenal. Completing every mission on Legendary grants additional rewards for each class. Bungie’s launch article also described upgraded rewards, including armor at a Power Level high enough for raid content; Power systems and reward usefulness can change, so check the current game before planning around a particular level.

The story begins with a more guided route through the Pale Heart, then opens into the destination’s broader activities after the campaign. If you want to follow the main narrative before turning to destination progression, finish the campaign first.
What is Prismatic?
Prismatic is a customizable subclass that lets a Guardian combine Light and Darkness abilities. Its selectable elements include Arc, Solar, Void, Stasis and Strand. This makes it a distinct build option rather than simply a new single-element subclass: players can draw from multiple damage types and abilities when shaping a loadout. Which new Supers were added?
The Final Shape introduced one new Super for each class, along with new Aspects:
- Titan — Twilight Arsenal: a new Titan Super.
- Hunter — Storm’s Edge: a new Hunter Super.
- Warlock — Song of Flame: a new Warlock Super.
These are expansion features, alongside Prismatic and the rest of the new subclass options, rather than separate purchases identified in Bungie’s expansion overview.

What is Salvation’s Edge, and when should you play it?
Salvation’s Edge is The Final Shape raid, where Guardians confront the Witness. Bungie announced its launch for June 7, 2024, three days after the expansion’s campaign launch. For the strongest story sequence, Bungie recommended completing the campaign and the Wild Card Exotic quest before entering the raid (Bungie’s June 4, 2024 launch article).
That is a story-order recommendation from launch, not a statement about present-day raid access, matchmaking or requirements. Check the current game for those details.

Bungie’s edition guide documents the original content differences below. It does not establish current prices or retail availability, so treat this as a comparison of included content—not a guarantee that any edition can still be purchased in a particular store (Bungie’s editions guide).

Where does The Final Shape fit in Destiny 2 now?
The Final Shape began Year 7 in June 2024. Year 7 ended with The Edge of Fate in July 2025 and included the Episodes Echoes, Revenant and Heresy, along with the Pale Heart and Salvation’s Edge. Those Episodes are historical Year 7 content, not a future release schedule (Bungie’s Years of Destiny guide).
On May 21, 2026, Bungie announced that the final planned Destiny 2 live-service content update would arrive June 9, 2026. Its support guide says planned live-service content updates ended with Update 9.7.0 on that date. Bungie says Destiny 2 remains playable and that it may still release hotfixes for health and stability (Bungie’s May 21, 2026 announcement; Update 9.7.0 support guide).

It is a strong fit if you want to experience the conclusion of the Witness story, explore the Pale Heart, build around Prismatic, or play Salvation’s Edge. Its campaign also offers a choice between a classic difficulty and a more demanding Legendary run. Whether it is worth buying now depends on your access to the expansion and which activities matter to you: Bungie’s edition guide documents historical contents, but does not establish current price or availability. With planned live-service content updates ended, it is best approached as a substantial released expansion rather than a promise of a continuing Year 7 schedule.
