Fair question—but there is no official answer yet. Square Enix’s announcement and Cid’s official Final Fantasy VII Rebirth profile do not explain why his chest hair is absent or not visible in the Final Fantasy VII Revelation material. So far, there is no confirmed design change or developer explanation to point to.
What we know about Cid’s appearance
The available official sources establish who Cid is, but not the reasoning behind this particular visual detail. Square Enix’s Rebirth character profile describes him as an independent pilot who runs a transport service from abandoned airfields and flies the Tiny Bronco. It does not mention chest hair.
Square Enix’s June 9, 2026 announcement identifies Cid as a playable, cantankerous pilot in Revelation. That confirms his role in the game, not a specific explanation for how his character model is presented.
Could it be hidden by the design?
Costume, lighting, camera angles, or the way a character model is rendered could affect whether chest hair is visible in a particular image or scene. Those are possibilities, not established explanations for Revelation. Without a clear, comparable view or a developer comment, it would be a leap to call this censorship, a deliberate removal, or a confirmed redesign.

What Cid’s story may bring into focus
There is at least more Cid-centered story ahead. In an October 2, 2026 PC Gamer interview, director Naoki Hamaguchi said the finale revisits Rocket Town, Cid’s relationship with Shera, the rocket launch, and space travel, giving players more opportunity to explore Cid’s internal world. That is meaningful context for the character, but Hamaguchi did not connect it to Cid’s appearance.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation was announced as the third and final entry in the Remake Series, with a Spring 2027 launch planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Until Square Enix shares more footage or comments on the design, the chest-hair question remains an unanswered joke rather than a documented production decision.
