What kind of game is Eximius: Seize the Frontline?
Developed and published by Ammobox Studios, Eximius: Seize the Frontline combines first-person squad combat with real-time strategy (RTS) base management. Steam lists its full release as March 16, 2021, following an Early Access period that began September 27, 2018. The developer’s site describes the same broad FPS/RTS structure. Its defining format is competitive 5v5: each side has one Commander and four Squad Officers. Matches take place in a post-apocalyptic urban setting, and victory comes from controlling the most victory points or destroying the opposing base.
How does the Commander role work?
Commander: manage the wider battle
The Commander plays from an RTS perspective, building a base, training an army, managing shared resources and technology, and calling support abilities. Steam notes that the Commander can also join the frontline, although base and strategic responsibilities generally keep this player safer and focused on the wider fight.

Officer: lead a squad in first person
Each Officer leads infantry directly in first-person combat. Officers capture resources, upgrade weapons, and equip battlesuits while working toward the team’s objectives. The role is therefore more than simply being a shooter: frontline actions contribute to the shared strategic contest.
The roles suit different tastes. Players who enjoy planning, prioritization, and seeing a whole match develop may prefer Commander. Players who want direct combat and local squad decisions may prefer Officer. Because the team’s strategy and frontline execution are interdependent, a mismatch in communication or expectations can make the hybrid’s central idea feel like a coordination burden rather than a benefit.

Is Eximius: Seize the Frontline worth playing?
It is a more compelling prospect for a group willing to coordinate than for someone seeking a conventional solo-focused shooter. The Commander/Officer split gives five players distinct jobs and makes teamwork central; it also means an individual’s enjoyment can depend on role preference and how well teammates communicate. A microphone is highly recommended by Steam, which aligns with the game’s team-based design, though the store does not list one as a system requirement.
For newcomers, the main question is whether both halves of the hybrid appeal. Someone interested only in immediate FPS action may not want the strategic dependencies, while a strategy fan may find the Commander role attractive precisely because it shapes the battle beyond one firefight. The available official descriptions establish the role structure and objectives, but do not provide enough evidence to make a detailed claim about onboarding quality or how easily new players learn the systems.

What do the Steam reviews say?
On October 8, 2026, Steam displayed an all-time “Mostly Positive” rating, with 74% positive among 513 purchaser reviews. This is a changeable storefront snapshot, not an independent critic score, and it says nothing by itself about how many people are currently playing. Check the Steam listing for the latest rating and review count.
Is Eximius: Seize the Frontline still active?
The official Steam announcements page records Season 5 server maintenance, a version 1.5.4.1 hotfix, and scheduled community play sessions in February 2026. These show updates and organized activity at that time, but they do not establish server status, concurrent players, or matchmaking availability on October 8, 2026. That distinction matters for a game built around coordinated 5v5 matches: evidence of recent updates is not the same as evidence that a suitable match is easy to find at the time you want to play. The official information available here cannot confirm today’s queue times or the size of the active player pool.

The game requirement block includes Windows 7 SP1 and older Windows versions in its minimum and recommended text. Steam separately states that its client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024; the older operating-system text in the game requirements should not be taken as a guarantee that the current Steam client works on those systems. Check the current Steam listing before installing.

Steam labels the game as supporting single-player, online PvP, and online co-op. The store also lists achievements, trading cards, in-app purchases, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. Six interface languages are listed; English has full audio, while the other listed languages have interface support.
Verdict
Eximius: Seize the Frontline has a clear hook: a coordinated team splits strategic command from first-person squad action instead of giving every player the same job. That makes it worth considering if you enjoy either side of that partnership and can play with people prepared to communicate. If your decision depends on finding matches quickly today, the February 2026 activity notices are not enough to answer that question; check current official announcements and player-facing Steam information before committing.
