“This application failed to start because f210.dll was not found”
f210.dll is a legacy Kodak camera component, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Kodak application that originally installed the DC200/DC210/DC240/DC280 SDK Control Layer.
You may also see:
- “The program can’t start because f210.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading f210.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load f210.dll.”
- “This application was unable to start correctly.”
- A generic invalid-image or “not designed to run on Windows” message
Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL. The filename alone does not identify the application that needs it, and copying a single DLL often leaves the rest of the Kodak dependency set broken.

The SDK supported Kodak DC-series cameras including the DC200, DC210, DC240, and DC280. Historical installations placed F210.DLL alongside other Kodak camera libraries, including files associated with the DC210, DC240, and DC280.
Reported file inventories describe it as a 32-bit Win32 DLL, with version 1.0.16.0, a size of about 36 KB, and a 1999 Kodak copyright. Those details come from historical third-party file listings rather than a current Kodak-maintained specification, so use them for identification, not as proof that a downloaded copy is authentic.
f210.dll is not supplied by modern Windows. A copy found under an old Windows system directory reflects how a legacy Kodak installer worked. It does not make the file a Microsoft component.
Identify the program requesting the file
Windows often displays the missing filename without naming the parent application. Find that application before replacing anything.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target and Start in.
- Note the application name and folder.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for the program’s uninstaller, setup media, or a folder named after the Kodak utility.
If the shortcut points to an old imaging application, camera transfer utility, or bundled Kodak program, that is the software that must be repaired.
Check installed programs
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Kodak, camera software, imaging software, or the application named by the shortcut.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what Windows offers.
Not every older application exposes a Repair button. If Repair is unavailable, use the original Kodak or application installer instead.
Check the application folder
Do not delete files while investigating. Look for:
- The main executable that starts the program
- Kodak camera or SDK folders
- An uninstall program
- A setup program
- Other Kodak DLLs
If f210.dll is present but the error remains, the problem may be a missing dependency, a damaged file, or a 32-bit application that cannot load its complete legacy environment.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete parent application
This is the most likely and most reliable repair.
- Back up any photographs, catalogs, presets, or project files created by the application.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the Kodak-related application or the program showing the error.
- Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the program from its original installer, camera bundle, manufacturer-supplied media, or another trusted copy supplied by the software or hardware vendor.
- Keep the installer’s default folder structure unless its instructions say otherwise.
- Restart Windows again if the installer requests it.
- Start the application from its newly installed shortcut.
A complete installer restores the Kodak DLLs that belong together. It can also recreate configuration entries, supporting libraries, camera drivers, and required folders that a manual DLL copy cannot provide.

- The easiest way to scan photos and documents. Supports 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 in sizes photo scanning but also letter and A4 size paper. Optical Resolution is up to 600 dpi ( PS: two setting: 300dpi/ 600dpi).
- Fast and easy, 2 seconds for one 4x6 photo and 5 seconds for one 8x10 size photo@300dpi. You can easily convert about 1000 photos to digitize files in one afternoon and share with your family or friends.
- More efficient than a flatbed scanner. Just insert the photos one by one and then scan. This makes ePhoto much more efficient than a flatbed scanner.
- Powerful Image Enhancement functions included. Quickly enhance and restore old faded images with a click of the mouse.
If the application still fails
Run its installer again and look for Repair, Modify, or Change. If the installer offers separate camera models or SDK components, install the component matching the original Kodak camera or application.
Do not combine files from different Kodak software packages. The application may require a particular set of libraries even when the filenames look similar.
A successful repair means the application opens without the f210.dll message and can reach its normal start screen. Camera detection is a separate test and may require additional driver or compatibility work.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Defender may have quarantined a legacy DLL, especially after an update or a fresh scan. Restore a file only when you can confirm that it came from the legitimate parent installer.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the Kodak application folder or
f210.dll. - Open an item to view its details.
- If it clearly came from your trusted original installation, choose Restore or Allow on device, when offered.
- Reinstall or repair the complete parent application afterward.
- Run a scan again and start the application.
If Defender immediately detects the restored file again, do not repeatedly allow it. Remove the old installation, scan the installer and application folder, and obtain clean original media from the software or hardware vendor.
Never restore a DLL obtained from an unverified download site. A quarantine event is not proof that this particular file is malicious, but it is a reason to verify provenance rather than bypass security.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components only when Windows has broader problems
f210.dll is a Kodak file, so SFC normally cannot recreate it. DISM and SFC are appropriate when Windows itself is damaged and you are seeing failures in several unrelated applications.
Recommended Free Tools
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart if requested.
Then run DISM followed by SFC:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Kodak application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command should be expected to restore a third-party Kodak DLL.

Repeatedly running these commands without identifying what changed rarely repairs a missing application file. If manually checking Windows components and tracking the resulting changes is taking too long, Outbyte PC Repair can show a free scan of reported Windows problems; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling the Kodak program remains the definitive fix for this application-specific file.
Fix 4: Check the 32-bit application and its dependencies
The available file information identifies f210.dll as a 32-bit component. An old 32-bit Kodak application can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs its complete 32-bit dependency set.
Keep these points in mind:
- A 64-bit replacement is not interchangeable with a 32-bit DLL.
- Do not choose
System32orSysWOW64based only on the filename. Windows uses counterintuitive naming for these folders. - Do not move the DLL manually between application folders.
- A message naming
f210.dllcan actually mean that another dependency cannot load. - Copying only
f210.dllmay simply produce the next missing-file error.
Use the parent installer’s repair process instead. If the installer has a custom location, reinstall the application to that location rather than copying its files from another PC.
Check whether the error changed
After reinstalling, note the exact new message:
- A new Kodak DLL error usually means the installation is incomplete or damaged.
MSVCP*.dllorVCRUNTIME*.dllpoints to a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime issue.- A camera connection error points to drivers, permissions, USB hardware, or application compatibility rather than
f210.dllitself. - An invalid-image message can indicate corruption, an architecture mismatch, or a dependency that cannot load.
Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable packages repair Microsoft runtime libraries. They do not provide f210.dll. Install one only when the application specifically reports a missing Microsoft runtime or the original installer requires it. Do not install every runtime package blindly.
Fix 5: Reinstall the camera driver or related device software
If the application opens but cannot detect the Kodak camera, repair the device software separately.
- Disconnect the camera.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras, Imaging devices, Portable Devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Kodak camera or an item with a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers to remove driver software, select that only when you have the original driver installer available.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the camera driver or complete Kodak software bundle from trusted original media.
- Connect the camera only when the installer requests it.
Old camera drivers may not be signed or compatible with the current Windows release. If the program still opens but the camera does not appear, test a different USB port and, where possible, use the camera’s removable card with a modern card reader.
Manually hunting through old driver versions can mean guessing which of several packages matches the camera and Windows architecture. A free scan from Outbyte Driver Updater can identify reported driver issues; driver installation is done by the full version, and it cannot replace the Kodak application’s own installer.

regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that f210.dll is an ActiveX or COM server with that entry point.
Therefore, do not treat this as a normal repair:
regsvr32 f210.dll
Running it may produce an entry-point or architecture error and does not restore missing dependencies. It also does not reinstall the Kodak SDK.
Use regsvr32 only when the application vendor specifically identifies a particular DLL as a registration server and provides the correct registration procedure.

- Its version may not match the Kodak application.
- Its architecture may be wrong.
- It may lack the other Kodak libraries required by the program.
- Windows may block or quarantine it.
- Copying it into a system folder can damage unrelated applications.
- The public metadata does not provide a trustworthy modern cryptographic baseline.
The safe sources are the original Kodak camera or application media, a trusted backup of that installer, or software supplied directly by the relevant hardware or application vendor. If none is available, do not substitute a random DLL.
Fix 6: Use System Restore only after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after a recent uninstall, driver change, or system modification and a suitable restore point exists. It is not a replacement for obsolete Kodak installation media.
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
Back up current files first. If no suitable restore point exists, return to reinstalling the parent application rather than forcing a system rollback.
When the original installer is unavailable
The original Kodak SDK may no longer be available through a current official distribution channel. If you have no trusted installer:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Preserve the application’s data and photographs.
- Check original camera packaging, optical media, and verified backups.
- Ask the hardware or software vendor whether an archived installer is still supported.
- Avoid copying
f210.dllfrom an unrelated computer. - Consider using a card reader or a newer imaging workflow that does not depend on the old Kodak SDK.
Do not assume that a successful installation guarantees compatibility with Windows 10 or Windows 11. The application, camera driver, USB connection, and 32-bit support must be tested together.
You can also try compatibility settings:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the application.
Compatibility mode cannot repair a missing DLL and may not make an obsolete camera driver work.

Which program needs f210.dll?
The filename alone cannot identify the exact program. An old Kodak camera utility, imaging application, or bundled legacy program is the likely parent. Check the shortcut target and installed applications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWill installing Visual C++ fix it?
Usually not. Visual C++ packages provide Microsoft runtime libraries, not the Kodak SDK. Use them only if the error specifically names an MSVC runtime.
Should I put f210.dll in System32?
No. Reinstall the complete parent application instead. Manually selecting a Windows system folder can create architecture and permission problems.
Should I register f210.dll?
Not normally. regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points, and there is no evidence that this Kodak control-layer DLL requires registration.
Can SFC restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while f210.dll belongs to a third-party Kodak application.
