On July 17, 2026, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed it is working on remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, while explicitly saying it was not announcing dates. No release date or window is confirmed.
Has Fallout 3 Remastered been announced?
Yes. Bethesda Game Studios confirmed on July 17, 2026, that it has been working on a Fallout 3 remaster. The studio’s exact wording was: “While we’re not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.” Bethesda Game Studios’ announcement is the official confirmation.

Bethesda calls the projects “remasters,” but has not announced a final product title or explained their technical scope. “Fallout 3 remaster” is therefore a useful description, not a detailed specification of what is being rebuilt or changed.
When is the Fallout 3 remaster coming out?
There is no confirmed release date or release window. Bethesda expressly withheld dates in its July 17 statement. Claims that the game is coming in 2027, launching during a particular season, or arriving as a surprise release are not confirmed by that announcement.

What details has Bethesda confirmed?
The announcement establishes that work is underway, but it does not provide the consumer-facing details needed to plan a purchase. Bethesda has not specified:
- Platforms or system requirements
- Price, editions, or preorder timing
- Graphics, gameplay changes, or technical features
- Whether the project should be considered a remake rather than a remaster
- Whether the Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters will launch together
Those points remain unconfirmed in the official statement; a platform, feature, or price should not be treated as settled without a newer direct announcement.

How does the remaster fit into Bethesda’s Fallout plans?
Bethesda says it has multiple Fallout projects in active development and calls the franchise one of its biggest priorities. The company also described several separate projects in its July 17 note. They are not release details for the Fallout 3 remaster:
- Fallout: New Vegas remaster: Bethesda confirmed remaster work on this game as well, without announcing a date for either project.
- Fallout 76: Raven Rock: A major expansion planned for 2027, described by Bethesda as a prequel story to Fallout 3. It is an expansion for Fallout 76, not the remaster.
- Fallout 5: Bethesda characterized this as a long-range destination and said it is in preproduction.
- A new project with Obsidian Entertainment: Bethesda confirmed the collaboration but provided no further details. The note names this separately from the New Vegas remaster, so it does not establish that the two are the same project.
Will the remaster be announced or released at Fallout’s 30th anniversary?
Bethesda says it will not hold a traditional Fallout Day broadcast in 2026 and is planning a live celebration in Washington, D.C., for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2027. Its announcement does not connect that event to a remaster reveal or release, so the celebration is not a confirmed launch window.

What can you play while waiting?
The existing Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition is a separate release from the upcoming remaster. Anyone considering it should check the retailer’s current listing for platform and edition details; Bethesda’s announcement does not establish retailer availability, preorder status, or access to the remaster through any subscription service.
