The announcement described a 2D, top-down game on one galactic map. Kanoogi’s current About page says work continues, but does not confirm that the game launched or is currently playable.
What did Chris Taylor announce?
Taylor unveiled Intergalactic Space Empire and Kanoogi at the GamesBeat Summit in Los Angeles on April 24, 2019. GamesBeat identified Taylor as the creator of Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander. GeekWire described the new game as a mostly solo project. It also reported that Taylor founded Gas Powered Games, which was acquired and renamed Wargaming Seattle in 2013; Taylor left in 2016, and the studio later closed in 2018.
Taylor said he began the project as an indie developer with the idea of making a game people could open in a browser: “I started this adventure two years ago, and I wanted to build a game as an indie developer. I thought wouldn’t it be fun if I could run this game in a browser and everyone could play it.” (GamesBeat, April 24, 2019)
What kind of game was it planned to be?
GamesBeat reported a fast-action, 2D, top-down real-time strategy game set on a single galactic map. Taylor called it “my next RTS game, which takes place on a single galactic map and has a number of innovations.” The stated design aimed to emphasize gameplay rather than cutting-edge graphics. These details describe the project at announcement, not a verified feature set for a released game.

Taylor also described a game that could be opened through a link and played with friends. The intended controls included keyboard and mouse as well as touchscreens, with players able to play with or against one another on different device types. The 2019 reports do not establish that these features shipped.
How was Kanoogi supposed to run it?
Kanoogi was conceived as the browser-based cloud platform behind the game. In the architecture described in the 2019 coverage, the game logic would run in a cloud virtual machine using compiled C++, while the player’s device would render the graphics. That is different from the streamed-video model Taylor contrasted it with at the time, in which a service sends rendered video to the player. The reports describe the intended architecture; they do not provide independent performance tests.

The goal was to let players access the game in a browser without installing it or routinely downloading game updates. Taylor estimated that around two billion devices might be able to run an updated browser, as reported by GamesBeat in 2019. The report provided no methodology for that estimate, so it should not be read as an independently measured count of compatible devices.
Kanoogi’s ambition was broader than one game. Its current About page describes a cloud-based gaming platform running in a browser and says the vision expanded from supporting Intergalactic Space Empire to a wider range of games and interactive experiences.

Is Intergalactic Space Empire out yet?
Its current release status is unresolved in the available public information. Kanoogi’s About page says work continues on the game and platform, but gives no dated update and does not confirm a launch, public beta, or current playable access. It includes contact details for beta inquiries, which are not by themselves evidence that a beta is open. The announcement-era plans should therefore not be treated as confirmation of present availability.
