There is no verified universal “best” graphics preset for Fallout 76 on PC. For a PC, start with your current settings and test one change at a time; on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or PS5 Pro, make sure you have the native current-generation version installed to use Bethesda’s stated 60 FPS target. That target is not a guarantee of a locked 60 FPS in every scene.
Find the settings menu
Bethesda’s Gameplay and Accessibility Settings Guide, published September 2, 2025, says you can open settings from the main menu before selecting a character. While playing, open the map, use the Menu command, then navigate to Settings.
PC: adjust settings methodically
Bethesda’s published guide explains where settings are and what several options do, but it does not provide a PC graphics preset, benchmark comparisons, or a ranking of settings by frame-rate cost. Performance can vary with your PC and what is happening in a particular scene, so specific values or promised FPS gains are not established by that guidance.
- Record your starting point. Note your current graphics options and the situation where performance feels poor, such as a crowded fight or a location with many visual effects.
- Change one visual option at a time. Play in a comparable situation and judge whether the change improves your experience. This is a cautious troubleshooting approach, not a tested Fallout 76 optimization recipe.
- Keep only changes that help. If an adjustment does not make a noticeable difference, restore it before testing another option. That makes it easier to tell which change, if any, helped.
The official guide does not endorse third-party configuration tools or downloaded configuration files. There is also no basis in the cited official material for claiming one particular PC setting is the largest performance drain.

Use settings for visibility, comfort, and control
The Bethesda guide lists options that can make play more comfortable or easier to read, but it does not claim that these options improve frame rate. Choose them for their effect on your experience rather than treating them as performance fixes.
- Display and visibility: depth of field, field of view, crosshair, general and dialogue subtitles, conversation-history size, floating markers, and marker draw distance.
- Controls: look sensitivity, controller vibration, and controller aim assist.
- Visual effects: the guide also includes visual-effect toggles; their performance cost is not ranked in the guide.
Xbox and PlayStation: install the native version
On Xbox Series X|S or PS5, check the relevant store for the native Fallout 76 version and install it. Bethesda says the native version requires redownloading the game. Its platform specifications and target are summarized below; they describe Bethesda’s stated support, not independently measured results.

Bethesda announced the 60 FPS target for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro in its September 15, 2026 Slasher release notes. The resolution figures and native-version download instructions appear on Bethesda Support’s download page, accessed October 4, 2026. Bethesda does not document an in-game “Performance Mode” switch in these sources.

Bethesda lists variable refresh rate (VRR), capped to 60 FPS, for Xbox Series X|S and PS5|Pro when used with a compatible display. The feature depends on both a supported console and a VRR-capable TV or monitor; it is not a frame-rate increase or a requirement for playing. If you already have compatible equipment, check its display settings and connection support. Buying a VRR display is optional, not a fix that raises the game’s FPS.
