Fallout 76 Subscription Explained: Is Fallout 1st Still Available in 2026?

Yes. Fallout 76 still has an optional subscription called Fallout 1st. Bethesda’s current membership information lists one-month and 12-month terms, and its May 21, 2026 announcement for Season 25 still describes rewards reserved for Fallout 1st subscribers. The membership is not required to play the main game: every player can use Adventure mode, and available Public Worlds remain open to everyone.

Fallout 1st is mainly a package of private-world hosting, unlimited component and ammunition storage, a Survival Tent, monthly Atoms, cosmetics and extra seasonal rewards. Whether it is worthwhile depends on how often you craft, whether you want to host a private session, and how much value you place on the recurring Atoms and membership-only season benefits.

What Fallout 1st is in Fallout 76

Fallout 1st is Fallout 76’s premium membership. It sits on top of the base game rather than replacing it, so subscribing does not unlock a separate campaign or a different version of Appalachia. The practical purpose is to add convenience, private-session tools and recurring account benefits for players who spend a lot of time in the game.

Bethesda’s membership page, current as of October 13, 2026, shows two membership lengths: one month and 12 months. The page does not provide a universally applicable numeric price in the information available here. The amount you see can depend on the platform storefront and your region, and Bethesda notes that fees or billing methods can change with notice. Check the store attached to your PlayStation, Xbox, PC or other account immediately before purchasing instead of relying on an old price quoted elsewhere.

Why the subscription is still active

This is not a legacy option that remains on an outdated support page. Bethesda’s May 21, 2026 announcement for Fallout 76 Season 25 explicitly refers to Fallout 1st subscribers earning bonus rewards, including a SCORE boost and exclusive items. That current-season language, together with the live membership listing, confirms that Fallout 1st remains part of the game in 2026.

What a Fallout 1st membership includes

The following are the benefits Bethesda currently associates with Fallout 1st. Some cosmetic and utility items can change, retire or rotate, so the exact contents of a future membership period may not be identical to today’s list.

Benefit What it does Important limits or conditions
Private Adventure Lets the subscriber start a private Fallout 76 session for the member and up to seven friends. A non-member can join when invited, but needs a membership to start their own private session.
Custom Worlds Provides access to Fallout 76’s Custom World feature and lets the subscriber host one. Invited non-members may join the member’s Custom World; hosting your own requires Fallout 1st.
Scrapbox Stores crafting components without the ordinary stash-box capacity pressure. After expiration, stored components remain available, but you cannot deposit additional components until membership is active again.
Ammo Box Stores stackable ammunition separately from normal inventory and stash limits. Fusion Cores and Plasma Cores are excluded. After expiration, existing ammunition remains stored, but new deposits stop.
Survival Tent Places a portable utility camp in the world for convenient access to storage and other basic services. The tent is a convenience item tied to the membership’s available benefits and can be affected by item rotations.
Monthly Atoms Provides 1,650 Atoms each month of membership. Atoms already granted remain on your account if you cancel or allow the membership to expire.
Cosmetics Adds Fallout 1st-themed cosmetic items and other rotating membership content. Bethesda says some items may change, retire or rotate over time.
Fallout 1st Seasons Pass access Gives members access to the Fallout 1st tier of seasonal rewards while eligible. This is not the same purchase as the standalone Seasons Pass.

Private Adventure hosting

Private Adventure is the clearest multiplayer-specific reason to subscribe. A member can launch a private version of the game world and play there alone or with up to seven friends, for a maximum group of eight people including the subscriber. You control who receives an invitation instead of relying on a public server’s player mix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The distinction is about hosting, not about locking every private-world feature behind a paywall for everyone in the group. A friend who does not subscribe can join your Private Adventure after you invite them. That friend cannot independently start a Private Adventure under their own account unless they also have Fallout 1st.

Custom Worlds

Custom Worlds are another membership-linked hosting feature. They let the subscriber create or use a configurable world and invite others into it. As with Private Adventure, an invited non-member can participate in the member’s world. The membership requirement applies to creating or hosting your own Custom World, not to every person who enters someone else’s invitation-only session.

Scrapbox and Ammo Box storage

Storage is often the most noticeable day-to-day benefit for a crafting-heavy character. The Scrapbox is for crafting components, while the Ammo Box is for stackable ammunition. Keeping these materials out of the ordinary stash can make it easier to maintain a broad crafting stockpile without constantly deciding which junk or ammunition to discard.

There is an important ammunition exception: Fusion Cores and Plasma Cores do not qualify for the Ammo Box. They must continue to be managed through the storage and inventory systems available to your account.

Survival Tent

The Survival Tent is a portable convenience point. Its value is less about adding a new quest system and more about reducing travel and inventory-management friction during scavenging, events and crafting runs. Players who regularly collect materials or need to unload between activities tend to notice this benefit more than players who keep a small inventory and return to a fixed camp infrequently.

Atoms and cosmetic content

Fallout 1st currently grants 1,650 Atoms per month. Atoms are the game’s premium currency and can be used for eligible items in the Atomic Shop. The membership also includes Fallout 1st cosmetics and other rotating content. Because Bethesda says that some cosmetics and utility items can retire or rotate, do not treat a particular cosmetic as a permanent guarantee of every future membership period.

What you can do without Fallout 1st

Fallout 76 remains playable without a subscription. A non-member can use the game’s standard Adventure mode and any Public Worlds that are available. You can complete the normal progression, participate in public activities and play with other people without paying for Fallout 1st.

Activity or feature Without Fallout 1st With Fallout 1st
Adventure mode Available. Available, plus membership benefits.
Public Worlds Available when Bethesda has made a Public World available. Available.
Join a friend’s Private Adventure Available by invitation from a Fallout 1st member. Available; the member can host.
Start your own Private Adventure Not available. Available.
Join a friend’s Custom World Available by invitation from a Fallout 1st member. Available; the member can host.
Start your own Custom World Not available. Available.
Ordinary stash and inventory systems Available under the standard limits. Still available, with Scrapbox and Ammo Box storage added.
Seasons progression Available through the standard season track. Includes the Fallout 1st membership tier while the membership is active.

This means a player who only wants to experience quests, events and public multiplayer does not need to subscribe. The strongest non-subscription limitation is that you cannot be the person who creates a Private Adventure or Custom World. You can still accept an invitation from a subscribing friend.

The Fallout 1st Seasons Pass is a separate purchase

Do not confuse the full membership with the Fallout 1st Seasons Pass. Bethesda’s Fallout 76 Seasons FAQ says that members receive the Fallout 1st Seasons Pass as part of their membership, but a non-member can buy that pass separately for 1,500 Atoms.

That creates two different buying decisions:

  • Full Fallout 1st membership: includes the seasonal membership tier plus private/custom-world hosting, storage containers, Survival Tent access, monthly Atoms and rotating membership content.
  • Standalone Seasons Pass: costs 1,500 Atoms for a non-member, according to Bethesda’s FAQ, and addresses the seasonal reward track without granting the broader membership features.

If your only goal is to claim a particular season’s premium rewards, compare the 1,500-Atom pass with the benefits and current storefront price of a full membership. Buying the pass alone does not turn your account into a Fallout 1st host or unlock the Scrapbox and Ammo Box.

What happens when you cancel or let Fallout 1st expire

Cancellation timing

Bethesda says you may cancel the membership at any time. Cancellation does not immediately remove the benefits you have already paid for: it takes effect at the end of the current membership term. Until that term ends, the account continues to receive the applicable membership access.

The exact menu used to cancel depends on where you purchased the membership, because billing is handled through the relevant platform storefront. Use that storefront’s subscription-management screen and confirm the displayed end date. If you do not see the membership there, check that you are signed into the same platform account used for the Fallout 76 purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After the term ends

Expiration does not delete the resources already in your account. Bethesda states that Atoms you have already received remain yours. Crafting components already placed in the Scrapbox and ammunition already placed in the Ammo Box also remain stored.

Best Value
Fallout 76 | 500 Atoms | Xbox Digital Code
  • ATOM PACK — Add 500 Atoms to your Fallout 76 balance.
  • IN-GAME CURRENCY — Use Atoms as in-game currency in Fallout 76.
  • CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION — Spend Atoms on a variety of customization items for your character.
  • ATOMIC SHOP — Visit the in-game Atomic Shop to see what is available.

The restriction is on adding more. Once the membership is inactive, you cannot deposit additional crafting components into the Scrapbox or additional ammunition into the Ammo Box. Existing stored materials remain available, so plan your inventory around the standard limits if you intend to stay unsubscribed for a while.

When Fallout 1st is likely to be worth it

Because Bethesda has not supplied one universal current price in the available membership information, the decision should start with your play habits and the price shown for your own platform and region.

Consider subscribing if you regularly craft or gather

Scrapbox capacity is most valuable to characters who collect large quantities of junk, maintain several crafting disciplines or participate in events that produce more materials than ordinary storage can comfortably hold. The Ammo Box similarly helps players who keep multiple ammunition types ready for different weapons. Remember that Fusion Cores and Plasma Cores are outside its scope.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider subscribing if you host groups

If you want reliable control over who shares a session with you, Fallout 1st’s Private Adventure and Custom Worlds are the relevant benefits. A group can include friends who do not subscribe, but the person organizing the private or custom session must be the member.

Consider the recurring value of the Atoms

The 1,650 monthly Atoms are a recurring benefit rather than a one-time sign-up bonus. Players who already spend Atoms on eligible Atomic Shop items may assign meaningful value to that allowance. Players who rarely use the shop should focus more heavily on storage and hosting when comparing the membership price.

Skip it if standard multiplayer meets your needs

If you mainly play Adventure mode, join public events and occasionally accept an invitation to a friend’s private session, the core game already covers those activities. You can also buy the Seasons Pass separately for 1,500 Atoms if seasonal rewards are the only premium feature you want.

Checklist before you subscribe

  1. Open the Fallout 1st listing through the storefront for your actual platform and region.
  2. Confirm whether you are selecting the one-month or 12-month term.
  3. Check the displayed renewal setting, billing date and cancellation instructions.
  4. Decide whether you need hosting, storage, monthly Atoms, seasonal membership rewards or a combination of those benefits.
  5. If you only want seasonal rewards, compare the standalone 1,500-Atom Seasons Pass with the full membership before paying.
  6. After subscribing, verify that the Scrapbox, Ammo Box, Survival Tent and private-world options appear on the correct Fallout 76 account.

Bottom line for Fallout 76 players in 2026

Fallout 76 still has a subscription: Fallout 1st is active, offers one-month and 12-month terms, and was still providing subscriber rewards in Season 25 in 2026. It is optional rather than an entry requirement. Adventure mode and Public Worlds remain available to everyone, and invited non-members can join a member’s Private Adventure or Custom World. Subscribe mainly for private hosting, expanded material storage, the Survival Tent, 1,650 monthly Atoms and the included seasonal membership tier; otherwise, the free-to-all game and the separately purchasable Seasons Pass may be sufficient.
