As of October 2026, the project’s maintainers say a modified Android setup can run the discontinued game with most features, though they also note limitations.
What happened to The Witcher: Monster Slayer?
The Witcher: Monster Slayer was a free-to-play, location-based augmented-reality role-playing game for iOS and Android, developed and published by Spokko. It placed monster encounters into a real-world mobile play experience, as described by the official Witcher site.
CD PROJEKT announced the phase-out in December 2022. Its regulatory filing said development would stop, distribution through Google Play and the Apple App Store would end on January 31, 2023, and access would be disabled on June 30, 2023. The filing said that final date would fully shut down the project. CD PROJEKT S.A.’s December 6, 2022 current report states that “access to the game will be disabled for players on 30 June 2023, which has the effect of fully shutting down the project on that date.”
What the fan revival does
The community effort is a replacement-server project, not a restoration of the original official service. Its public GitHub repository describes the goal as resurrecting the discontinued game. The project materials say the original backend is gone; maintainers have reverse-engineered the Unity client, redirected its connections, and built a custom ASP.NET Core server. The documented setup runs the original APK on a physical Android device.

In an October 2026 release post, the maintainers report a build based on patch 1.1.116 that works offline with most features. They also identify exceptions and setup caveats. Those are project-maintainer reports, not independently verified test results, and they do not establish full feature parity with the original service. The project repository and release information are the place to check for current status.
Is the revival official?
No. The available project materials describe a community-run effort, and no corporate relaunch or endorsement is established by the sources describing it. CD PROJEKT’s official record documents the 2023 shutdown; it does not announce a return. The fan project should not be treated as an official release, supported service, or company-backed product.

Can you play it now, and what do you need?
The clearest documented fit is a physical Android smartphone. Community setup notes also report needing a Google account that had The Witcher: Monster Slayer installed at least once. These are current community-reported constraints, not permanent official requirements, and the sources do not identify a supported phone model or minimum hardware specification.
- Android: The documented fan setup uses the original APK on a physical Android device.
- Prior access: Community notes say a Google account with a previous installation may be needed.
- iOS: The original game was available for iOS, but the documented revival setup does not establish iOS support.
- Availability: The project is community-run, so setup steps and functionality may change. Check its current repository and release notes before attempting installation.
Because this is not an official app-store relaunch, the sources do not establish the same distribution, security, licensing, support, or long-term availability as the original service. No specific Android model can be recommended from the project information available.
