Don’t treat “Questionable” as confirmation that a receiver will play. Check the latest official injury report and team updates, compare your available replacement, and make the call before your league’s lineup lock. If you can keep a later-playing option in a flexible slot, that may preserve a fallback—but only if your league’s eligibility and lock rules allow it.
What “Questionable” means
The NFL’s injury-report policy defines Questionable as: “uncertain as to whether the player will play in the game.” It is not an expected-active label, and it does not mean the player is more likely than not to play. The NFL eliminated the Probable designation. NFL policy on injury-report designations
A game designation also does not tell you whether a receiver who is active will have his usual workload. Check the practice-status context and subsequent club updates alongside the game status. The NFL’s official injury report is organized by week and player; refresh it for the specific matchup rather than relying on an older report.
How to decide whether to start him
- Check the latest information. Review the current official report and later team updates close to kickoff. The designation describes uncertainty about playing, not a workload forecast.
- Identify your real fallback. Compare the receiver with an eligible player you can actually start. Consider that player’s role and fantasy value, and the consequence of having an empty slot if the receiver is inactive. There is no universal point threshold or official probability that determines when a questionable receiver should be benched.
- Find your lineup deadline. Confirm when your platform locks the player. NFL Fantasy’s 2025 rules say players can be moved between active and reserve before their NFL team is scheduled to start, using the NFL.com clock. That is an NFL Fantasy rule, not a rule for every platform or custom league.
- Preserve options if your rules permit. If the questionable receiver plays later than another eligible option, putting him in a flex slot can leave more time to react. This only helps if your league allows the relevant player in that slot and permits the later lineup change.
What NFL Fantasy Auto-Swap does—and does not do
NFL Fantasy’s optional Auto-Swap Inactives feature uses a manager-ranked backup list to replace players projected to score zero points. NFL Fantasy Support says teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before kickoff. NFL Fantasy Auto-Swap Inactives help

Quick decision checklist
- Is the player still listed as Questionable on the current report, or has the team provided a later update?
- Who is your eligible replacement, and what is the cost if the receiver is inactive?
- When does the slot lock on your platform, and can you still make a change after earlier games begin?
- Can a flex placement preserve a later option under your league’s rules?
- If you use Auto-Swap, does your platform’s feature cover this situation—or only an inactive player?
