SNK’s FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves was selected as an Esports World Cup (EWC) competition title. The EWC’s current game page contains 2026 results and qualification information, so its standings should not be mistaken for details of the game’s original selection or its first EWC tournament.
Which Fatal Fury game is at the Esports World Cup?
The title is FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, SNK’s return to the Fatal Fury fighting-game series. SNK’s patch notes confirm it was selected as an EWC competition title. The available official information does not establish the exact date of the original selection announcement or the full rules and prize breakdown for the first EWC tournament. SNK’s patch 1.2.0 notes support the selection claim.
SNK released the game on April 24, 2025. It is a one-on-one fighting game; SNK lists rollback netcode and cross-platform functionality, as well as ranked, casual and room matches. SNK’s release announcement lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Physical and digital editions were listed for PlayStation, with digital editions listed for Xbox and PC.
What does the EWC page show?
The EWC’s Fatal Fury competition page is a current source for the event’s 2026 competition information. It shows all 32 qualification slots claimed and lists these top three results:
#1 Best Overall
| Place | Player and team | Prize listed by EWC |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | DarkAngel (Natus Vincere) | $250,000 |
| 2nd | mi2ha4 (Virtus.pro) | $130,000 |
| 3rd | Nemo (Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto) | $70,000 |
Those figures and placements are the EWC page’s 2026 information. They do not establish the original selection date or the inaugural tournament’s terms. The page describes the game as one-on-one fighting with character-specific styles, naming established characters such as Terry Bogard and newcomer Cristiano Ronaldo; that is the event’s description, not an independent assessment of the gameplay.
How is the EWC different from SNK World Championship?
The Esports World Cup and SNK World Championship (SWC) are separate competition circuits. This distinction matters because SNK’s large SWC prize announcements are not EWC prize figures.

| Competition | What the official information establishes |
|---|---|
| Esports World Cup | The EWC game page lists 2026 standings, prizes and qualification status for Fatal Fury. |
| SNK World Championship 2026 | SNK announced a $4.2 million total circuit prize pool, including $2.5 million allocated to City of the Wolves, 32 game slots and finals in Stockholm on November 27–29, 2026, as part of DreamHack Stockholm. These are SWC details, not EWC details. |
| SNK World Championship 2025 | SNK announced a $1.5 million champion prize for the game’s combined SWC 2025 qualifiers and finals. This was historical SWC information, not an EWC prize. |
For the 2026 SWC, SNK’s June 29 announcement covers the circuit total, game allocation and finals. Its August 18 qualifier update describes online qualifiers across nine regions. Players must reside in a participating country or region to enter that region’s qualifier; matches are double elimination, best-of-three, moving to best-of-five for the top eight. These are SWC rules and should not be read as EWC qualification rules. SNK’s 2025 announcement covers the earlier SWC champion prize.
