FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is the first new Fatal Fury game since GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES arrived in 1999. SNK released the new versus fighter on April 24, 2025, and has announced Nintendo Switch 2 versions for October 22, 2026. The return adds a new combat system, two control styles and a solo RPG mode while keeping the series’ South Town setting.
Why is this the first Fatal Fury game in 26 years?
SNK dates the Fatal Fury series to 1991 and identifies GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES (1999) as its previous installment. City of the Wolves followed on April 24, 2025: the 26-year gap in the title runs from the 1999 release to the new game’s 2025 launch. SNK called it a “brand-new entry” in its April 24, 2025 release announcement.
The game is a new mainline return, not an upcoming release on its original platforms. Its 2025 launch announcement and release-day notice are available from SNK’s August 2024 announcement and SNK’s launch announcement.
What does City of the Wolves add?
REV System and two control styles
SNK describes the REV System as a set of offensive options and presents two control schemes for different levels of familiarity with fighting games. Smart Style uses simplified inputs; Arcade Style uses traditional inputs. That gives players a choice between a more approachable input method and the classic command-based approach. These are the publisher’s descriptions, not independent performance findings.

A solo RPG mode alongside versus fighting
Episodes of South Town (EOST) is the game’s single-player RPG mode. The game is still a versus fighter, but EOST gives players a solo option rather than limiting its content to head-to-head matches. SNK also describes online play as cross-platform and using rollback netcode; those are publisher-stated features, not a guarantee about every player’s connection or match quality. See SNK’s game information.
Roster count at launch
SNK’s launch materials counted 17 familiar and new characters, plus five Season Pass 1 DLC fighters—22 in total when those DLC characters are included. The announcement says all characters require an internet connection and an update, so the 22 figure should not be read as a count of characters included on an unupdated base-game disc or download. Details are in SNK’s release announcement.
