Build for the live objective panel first, then optimize chemistry around it. EA’s published FC 27 rules confirm that position, league, nation and club relationships still matter, while ICONs, Heroes and Hall of FUT items have revised link contributions. Ultimate Gauntlet returns in Week 2 of the Destined for Glory campaign and begins with two Season 1 rounds. However, EA’s public launch material does not state the exact Chemistry threshold, eligible-card rules, win target, entry requirement or rewards for Ultimate Gauntlet 2. Those values should be taken from the in-game objective panel rather than guessed.
This guide explains the confirmed FC 27 Chemistry rules, then shows how to assemble and check a compliant squad when the event’s live requirements are visible.

What Chemistry does in FC 27 Ultimate Team
Chemistry is the squad-building system that rewards connections between cards. The useful relationships are shared league, nation and club, with a player’s preferred position determining whether the card can receive its intended Chemistry. For Ultimate Gauntlet 2, Chemistry is not a substitute for the event’s own restrictions: a squad can look well connected and still fail if it uses an ineligible item type, misses a stated threshold or places cards outside their allowed positions.
EA’s older Chemistry explainer describes league, nation and club relationships, but that explanation predates FC 27. Use those relationships as the framework for planning, not as proof that every historical numerical rule remains unchanged. The current FC 27 launch information is the authority for the special-card changes below, while the event panel is the authority for Ultimate Gauntlet 2’s live requirements.

Preferred positions come first
Start by checking each card’s preferred position and any position-change options available to it. A player placed out of position can weaken the squad’s Chemistry plan even when several teammates share a league or nation. The practical order is to make the formation work with cards in their preferred positions, then add links around that structure.
League, nation and club relationships
After positions are stable, group players around the relationships that the squad can support most reliably. A league-centered core is usually easier to expand because several positions can be filled from the same competition. A nation-centered core can be more flexible across leagues, while club links are strongest when multiple cards from one club fit the formation. The best choice depends on the event’s eligible leagues, nations and item restrictions.
FC 27 special-card Chemistry rules
FC 27 changes how several premium item classes contribute links. The following values are the documented rules in EA’s FC 27 launch update.

The important change for squad builders is that an ICON is no longer documented as providing the larger historical nation contribution, and a Hero is no longer documented as providing the larger historical league contribution. Treat both as useful bridges, but calculate the surrounding squad using the current contributions in the table rather than an older FUT guide.
What EA has confirmed about Ultimate Gauntlet 2
EA’s FC 27 Launch Update says: “The Ultimate Gauntlet will also return during Week 2 of Destined for Glory, beginning with two Rounds in Season 1.” That establishes the campaign timing and the initial Season 1 structure, but it does not publish a complete rule sheet for a specific round named Ultimate Gauntlet 2.

Because those values can change with the live event, do not rely on a social post, an old screenshot or a guide written for another round. Open Ultimate Team, select the Ultimate Gauntlet objective, and verify the current text immediately before submitting a squad.

How to build a compliant Ultimate Gauntlet 2 squad
- Open the live objective panel. Record every hard requirement: Chemistry minimum, card rarity or item-class restrictions, required leagues or nations, position rules, match format, win target and any entry condition. If a requirement is absent, do not invent one.
- Choose the formation you can actually fill. Count the required positions before buying or submitting cards. A formation that forces several out-of-position players is a poor starting point, even if it appears to offer more attacking options.
- Lock in the central links. Select the goalkeeper, centre-backs, central midfielders and striker around one strong league, nation or club relationship. These positions often determine whether the rest of the squad can remain in preferred roles.
- Fill weak positions with compatible links. Use shared league, nation or club connections on the flanks and in the full-back positions. If the event allows special items, an ICON, Hero or Hall of FUT card can bridge a gap under the current rules, provided it is in position and not excluded by the objective.
- Check every card’s position. A card that looks correct in the formation may still be using a secondary position or a position-change item. Confirm the position indicator on the squad screen rather than judging by the player’s real-world role.
- Verify the Chemistry total in the preview. The displayed squad total is the decisive check. If it is below the event threshold, change the lowest-impact card first: a bench player, an isolated full-back or a card whose league and nation connect to nobody else.
- Confirm eligibility again after changes. Replacing one card can satisfy Chemistry while breaking a league, nation, rarity or item-class condition. Re-open the objective details after the final edit and make sure every line remains marked complete.
- Only then submit or enter. The cost of an entry, token or consumable is not established in the public launch information. Treat the confirmation screen as the final opportunity to inspect requirements before committing cards.
Three practical squad-building approaches

Compare the options against five questions: Does the squad clear the stated Chemistry threshold? How many players stay in preferred positions? How broad is the league and nation coverage after the current special-card contributions? Can the team complete the match objective? Are the required cards affordable and available on your platform and market?
Using ICONs, Heroes and Hall of FUT cards correctly
These cards are most valuable when they solve a visible structural problem. For example, an in-position ICON can connect a league-based midfield to a defence built from another league, while an in-position Hero can support a nation link without forcing a formation change. The card should be selected because the bridge raises the displayed squad Chemistry or preserves preferred positions, not simply because it has a premium label.
Check the event’s item restrictions before building around any special card. Ultimate Gauntlet 2 may permit all eligible Ultimate Team items, or it may exclude a class, rating range or promotional category. The public launch pages do not establish that list. A card that is excellent for ordinary squad building can still invalidate an event submission if the live panel excludes it.

How to troubleshoot a Chemistry shortfall
The total is lower than expected
Inspect positions first. An out-of-position card can prevent the surrounding league, nation or club relationships from working as intended. Next, look for isolated cards: a player whose league, nation and club are all different from nearby teammates contributes little to a concentrated squad. Replace that card with one sharing the strongest existing relationship.
An ICON or Hero did not solve the gap
Confirm that the card is in its preferred position and that the event allows its item class. Then check which part of the squad needed help. A league bridge does not automatically fix every nation connection, and a nation connection does not replace a missing position link. The displayed total, not the card’s reputation, determines whether the change worked.

The squad meets Chemistry but fails the objective
Read every objective line separately. Chemistry may be complete while the squad misses an eligible-card, league, nation, rating, rarity or position condition. Event requirements are independent checks; satisfying one does not waive another.

The requirement changed after an update
Use the current in-game panel and the latest EA announcement available in the game client. Ultimate Team events are live content, so a prior round’s threshold or rewards should not be carried forward automatically to Ultimate Gauntlet 2.
Chemistry is only one part of winning the rounds
Once the squad clears the event rules, choose players who can perform the required match objectives. A technically compliant team can still be impractical if it lacks pace in the roles your formation exposes, defensive coverage in midfield or a reliable outlet for the match conditions. Keep the strongest players in their natural positions where possible, and avoid sacrificing several positions merely to create one additional relationship.
There is no published FC 27 statistic that quantifies a guaranteed Chemistry boost to win rate, nor is there an official figure showing how many Ultimate Gauntlet 2 matches a certain Chemistry total wins. Treat Chemistry as a compliance and squad-function system, not as a promise of results. Your final decision should balance the live threshold, position integrity, link coverage, player quality and the cost or availability of the cards.
A final pre-entry checklist
- The live panel’s Chemistry threshold is written down and met.
- Every required league, nation, rarity, item class and position condition is satisfied.
- ICONs, Heroes or Hall of FUT cards are in preferred positions and permitted by the event.
- The squad preview shows the intended Chemistry total after all substitutions.
- The team has enough quality in the roles needed for the round’s match objectives.
- You have checked the confirmation screen for any entry cost or consumable before committing the squad.
That process is the safest way to prepare because EA has confirmed the FC 27 Chemistry changes and the Ultimate Gauntlet’s return, but has not published a fixed public specification for every Ultimate Gauntlet 2 value. The live objective panel remains the definitive source for the round you are entering.
