How do Ultimate Team SBCs work?
An SBC is an in-game challenge in which you contribute eligible Player Items under rules set for that challenge. In return, you receive the reward shown on its screen when you meet the completion conditions. The rules and progress system are not identical across editions, so first check which format the challenge uses.

EA’s help article, How Ultimate Team™ Squad Building Challenges work, includes guidance for FC 27 and FC 26. Its FC 27 section describes two formats; its FC 26 instructions describe building and submitting a squad. Do not assume that an older edition’s process applies to a newer challenge.
In practical terms, completing an SBC involves three decisions: understanding what the challenge accepts, deciding which items you are willing to give up, and checking what you receive for doing so. These are linked. A challenge may appear to need only a particular score or squad condition, but the selected Player Items are not temporarily held in reserve: submitting them removes them permanently from your Club.

FC 27 Simplified SBCs
A Simplified SBC uses an Item Score target. You contribute eligible Player Items toward the score, and progress can be saved across submissions. Each challenge sets its own target. EA says the screen warns you if your chosen items would greatly exceed the requirement, which is useful because those items are still consumed when submitted.
This format differs from filling out a traditional squad against several conditions. The relevant question is whether the eligible items you choose add enough Item Score to meet the specific target. If you submit less than the full requirement, progress can carry over to a later submission. Before adding another set of items, check the remaining target so you understand what is still needed and do not contribute more than you intend.
Meeting the full requirement is the point at which EA says the main Simplified SBC reward arrives. If the challenge expires before you finish, the partial-progress rule is different from simply completing it: EA says you may receive a reduced untradeable reward based on your progress. That possibility should not be treated as a guaranteed full reward or as a return of your submitted items.
FC 27 Puzzle SBCs
A Puzzle SBC uses a traditional squad and challenge-specific conditions. Possible requirements include squad rating, chemistry, player quality, leagues, nations and clubs. A squad can satisfy one condition while failing another, so check the full list rather than focusing only on rating or chemistry.
Read the conditions together before you choose players. For example, a displayed rating requirement is only one possible part of a Puzzle SBC; the same challenge may also specify chemistry or criteria involving quality, league, nation or club. EA’s guidance lists these as possible requirements, not a fixed checklist that every Puzzle SBC uses. The live challenge is the authority on which ones apply.
Do not assume that meeting a single visible condition means the squad is ready to submit. Review the challenge’s full requirement list and the selected squad as a whole. If any condition is unmet, the challenge has not been completed under its rules.
FC 26 squad submissions
EA’s FC 26 instructions describe selecting eligible players to build a squad that meets the listed conditions, then submitting it. The guidance identifies items in your Club or SBC Storage as possible inputs and says you can obtain Player Items through the Ultimate Team Transfer Market. These are in-game item sources; understanding SBC rules does not require buying a physical product.
Items available from your Club and SBC Storage can be considered when assembling a submission, while the Transfer Market is another in-game source identified in EA’s FC 26 guidance. EA’s FC 26 guidance does not establish a standard market cost for any particular SBC item, and prices can change. Check the current in-game challenge and market if you are deciding whether to use items you already have or obtain others.
What requirements should you check?
Requirements belong to the individual challenge, not to SBCs as a whole. Read the challenge screen before choosing items and verify each condition against the squad or score you are about to submit.

- For a Puzzle SBC: check every listed condition, including any combination of squad rating, chemistry, player quality, league, nation or club requirements.
- For a Simplified SBC: check the Item Score target and which items are eligible to contribute. If progress carries across submissions, note how much remains before adding more items.
- For a multi-challenge SBC: check whether the set includes individual rewards for component challenges and a separate group reward for completing the full set.
- For any SBC: confirm the reward, whether the challenge is repeatable if that matters to you, and the displayed expiry before you commit items.
There is no single requirement or reward that applies to every SBC. The live challenge screen is the practical source for the current challenge’s exact terms.
A useful review is to compare the requirement with the exact items currently selected, rather than relying on what you intended to add. For a squad challenge, check all the conditions shown, not just the one that seems most demanding. For a Simplified SBC, check the Item Score target, eligibility and remaining progress. If the screen indicates that selected items greatly exceed the score requirement, pause and reconsider whether that excess is acceptable: the items will still be removed if you confirm.
Also distinguish between what is a general possibility and what the specific challenge actually asks for. EA lists rating, chemistry, quality, leagues, nations and clubs as possible Puzzle SBC requirements, but that does not mean every challenge uses all of them. Likewise, an Item Score target is a Simplified SBC mechanic, not a universal requirement for all SBCs.
What rewards do SBCs give, and when do you get them?
Rewards vary by challenge. EA’s FC 26 guidance describes rewards that can include Player Items and packs, and says some SBCs have multiple challenges with an individual reward for each plus a group reward for completing the set. Some are repeatable. Do not infer a particular item, pack, tradeability status or repeatability from the SBC category; check the reward shown on that challenge.
For a multi-challenge set, look at the rewards at both levels before deciding how far to progress. Component challenges may each have an individual reward, while completing the full set may also unlock a group reward. The group reward is tied to completing the set; it should not be confused with the reward for completing one component. The exact challenge screen tells you what is offered.
For FC 27 Simplified SBCs, EA says the main reward arrives when the full requirement is met. If a Simplified SBC expires after partial progress, EA says that progress may provide a reduced untradeable reward. That is a specific caveat for Simplified SBCs, not a promise that every SBC grants partial-completion rewards.

Reward descriptions should be checked directly rather than inferred from a challenge name or category. The general guidance does not supply a universal reward list, and it does not establish that all rewards are tradeable or that all challenges include a group reward. Before committing items, confirm what the live challenge actually displays and whether its completion conditions match the reward you want.
How do expiry dates and partial progress work?
SBC deadlines are challenge-specific. EA does not state one universal expiry time or time zone in its general guidance. Use the expiry displayed on the individual challenge screen, and check it before you begin: once an SBC expires, you can no longer submit to complete it.

- FC 27 Simplified SBCs: progress can be saved between submissions. If the challenge expires before you finish, EA says you may receive a reduced untradeable reward based on progress.
A possible partial reward does not refund the items already submitted. Because the deadline, reward and consequences differ by challenge, make the decision using the information shown for that specific SBC.

There is no schedule in EA’s general guidance that applies to all SBCs. A deadline shown for one challenge should not be used to estimate another challenge’s expiry, and the source does not establish a universal time zone. If a challenge is important to you, check its displayed expiry before starting and again before making a later submission. Availability, timestamps and live challenge details can change.
For a challenge with progress across more than one submission, consider the expiry when deciding whether to continue. FC 27 Simplified SBC progress can be saved between submissions, but EA’s stated partial-expiry outcome is only a reduced untradeable reward based on progress. It does not guarantee the reward for full completion. For FC 26 squad submissions, the official guidance says an expired SBC can no longer accept a squad; it does not establish an equivalent partial-progress reward.
What happens to items after you submit?
Submitted Player Items are permanently removed from your Club, including items contributed toward partial progress. EA states that its advisors cannot restore them and summarizes the rule as: “SBC submissions are final.” Treat a submission as an irreversible exchange, not as a way to temporarily reserve players.
- Open the challenge and read its requirements, reward and displayed expiry.
- Check the selected items against every requirement, or confirm the Item Score contribution and remaining target for a Simplified SBC.
- Look for valuable or unintended items in the selection. Remove anything you do not want to consume.
- Confirm only when the items and the reward trade-off are acceptable. Submitted items cannot be recovered through EA advisors.
This applies even when you are contributing toward partial progress rather than completing the challenge in one go. A later expiry or a decision not to continue does not make an earlier submission reversible. That is why it is worth checking the selection each time, especially where the game warns that the selected Item Score greatly exceeds the target.
Do not treat an SBC submission like a temporary transfer into a challenge. The items are consumed for the challenge and cannot be restored by EA advisors. If you are uncertain whether an item should be included, remove it and review the remaining selection before confirming.
A quick way to assess an SBC before committing
When deciding whether to complete a live challenge, use the same checks for each one so its apparent reward is weighed against what it actually requires:

This check is especially useful when a challenge uses valuable items or has several stages: the listed reward is only one side of the exchange, and an expired challenge may leave you unable to finish under its original terms.
When comparing two live SBCs, apply the same questions to both rather than comparing rewards alone. Compare format and edition; requirements or Item Score target; which Club, Storage or market items you would use; the displayed reward and tradeability information; whether the challenge is repeatable or has component and group rewards; and its expiry and incomplete-progress rules. EA’s guide supports these as useful comparison points, but it does not provide live values for individual challenges. Read the current screens for the actual details.

There is no universal SBC price or cost figure in EA’s general guidance. The practical cost is the set of Player Items you choose to submit, plus any items you decide to obtain through the Transfer Market. Since submitted items are permanently removed and market prices can change, do not assume that an advertised reward is automatically a favorable exchange. EA’s general guidance provides no standard market price or formula for valuing a particular SBC; the live challenge and current market are the relevant references.
