fcatable.dll is a third-party application DLL, not a documented Windows system component. The safest fix is to identify the program requesting it and repair or reinstall that program from its original installer.

Which fix applies to you
Use the path that matches what you know:
- The error names a program you still use: repair or reinstall that application first.
- The program was recently updated, restored, cleaned, or partially uninstalled: run its repair function or reinstall it.
- The file exists, but Windows says it is missing or cannot load it: check for a missing Visual C++ dependency, wrong architecture, or a damaged file.
- Your antivirus quarantined the file: confirm that it belonged to the installed application, then repair the application rather than downloading a replacement.
- The error began after a Windows problem: run DISM and SFC as secondary repairs.
- The error comes from hardware-control software: check the vendor application and its drivers. There is no evidence that
fcatable.dllitself is a Windows, DirectX, or general driver file. - You downloaded the DLL manually: remove that copy and reinstall the owning application.
The exact parent GE product is not publicly verified. File records describe fcatable.dll as “Global Table DLL” and attribute it to General Electric Company, but that metadata does not prove which current GE application installed it.

A DLL is a library loaded by an executable when the application starts or when it needs a particular function. The “Global Table” description likely refers to functionality used inside the vendor’s application, but it does not identify the application by itself.
There is no public evidence that Windows 10 or Windows 11 ships this file. Do not treat System32 as its expected location. A correct copy will normally be in the application’s installation folder or a private vendor runtime directory.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the application
Start with the executable that displays the error. The window title, taskbar icon, shortcut name, or the text immediately before the DLL message may identify it.

- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for the application associated with the error.
- Open its menu, then choose Modify, Change, Repair, or a similarly named option.
- Complete the repair wizard.
- Restart Windows and open the application again.
If no repair option exists, obtain the installer from the organization that supplied the application or from its official software portal. Uninstall the damaged application, restart Windows, and install it again.
Do not remove shared software simply because its name is unfamiliar. If the application is used by an employer or connected to industrial equipment, contact the administrator or vendor before uninstalling it.
Check the installation folder
If you have several versions of the program, the error may come from an old copy.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the path in Target.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Check whether
fcatable.dllis present beside the application executable.
If the file is present in that folder but the program still reports it as missing, Windows may be failing to load a dependency. A DLL can exist and still produce a “specified module could not be found” message when another library it needs is absent.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Also check Settings → Apps → Installed apps for multiple editions or old entries of the same program. Remove or repair the installation that matches the executable producing the error.
Check recent changes
Think about what happened immediately before the error appeared:
- The application was updated or moved.
- A cleanup utility removed files.
- The program was restored from backup.
- Antivirus software quarantined a file.
- A second copy of the application was installed.
- An installer was interrupted.
Undoing the specific change through the application’s repair function is safer than copying a DLL from elsewhere.

Fix 2: Repair the 32-bit Visual C++ runtime
Public dependency listings associate a listed fcatable.dll version with Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries. That association is not an official GE statement, so install or repair the runtime when the error also mentions files such as VCRUNTIME140.dll, mfc140.dll, or api-ms-win-crt-*.
Because public records identify fcatable.dll as 32-bit, the x86 Visual C++ package is the relevant first choice even on 64-bit Windows.
Repair the existing runtime
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Find an x86 entry.
- Open its menu and select Modify.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
If the x86 entry is missing or repair fails, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ redistributable downloads. Download the x86 installer, run it as administrator, complete setup, restart Windows, and retry the application.
Do not remove every Visual C++ package. Different applications can require different runtime generations, and removing unrelated entries can create new launch errors.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine an application DLL after an update or after detecting a suspicious modification.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
fcatable.dllor the affected application. - Check the file path and detection details.
Restore the file only when you can confirm that it was installed by a trusted application and the installation itself is legitimate. After restoration, repair or reinstall the application so its files are replaced from the vendor-controlled package.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to obtain a loose DLL. If the file was modified, bundled with unwanted software, or placed in an unexpected directory, restoring it can preserve the underlying problem.
Fix 4: Confirm the architecture and file location
fcatable.dll is publicly listed as 32-bit. A 32-bit application needs its matching 32-bit DLL and the x86 runtime. A 64-bit DLL cannot substitute for it.
Check the application rather than trying to infer the correct location from the Windows folder:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties and open Shortcut.
- Use Open File Location.
- Look for the DLL in the application directory or a vendor-managed subfolder.
- If a manually downloaded copy is there, delete it.
- Run the application’s repair or reinstall process.
Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a generic fix. On 64-bit Windows, those folders have specific meanings, and placing an unrelated library there can affect other programs or conceal the real dependency problem.

If the file exists in the correct application directory, a trusted administrator can inspect the executable’s dependencies to determine which library is actually missing. The important distinction is that “module not found” may identify a dependency failure, not the absent DLL named in the first message.
Fix 5: Run DISM and System File Checker
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They will not normally recreate a third-party GE DLL, so use them after repairing the owning application and its runtime.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC procedure in its guide to repairing missing or corrupted system files.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, repeat the application repair steps and review the application’s installer logs. Do not expect SFC to supply fcatable.dll, because the file is not documented as a Windows component.
When manually repeating DISM and SFC becomes guesswork, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the system issues involved; its free scan shows what it finds, while repairs require the full version. Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that program owns fcatable.dll.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when the application is hardware-related
There is no evidence that fcatable.dll belongs to a standard Windows driver or DirectX package. Consider a driver update only if the erroring application clearly controls hardware and its vendor specifically identifies a driver or device-software relationship.
Use Windows Update first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install a driver only when it matches the relevant device.
- Restart Windows.
You can also use Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category for the affected device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For vendor-controlled equipment, use the driver package supplied by the equipment manufacturer or your organization. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which installed drivers are stale during its free scan, while driver installation through the full version handles the update; verify every proposed driver against the hardware vendor before installing it.
Fix 7: Use System Restore for a known recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a known installation, update, or cleanup operation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore does not replace obtaining the correct vendor installer. If it rolls back the application but the DLL remains missing, repair or reinstall the application afterward.

regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM components.
There is no evidence that fcatable.dll is a self-registering COM server. Running:
regsvr32 fcatable.dll
will therefore usually fail with a message such as DllRegisterServer was not found, or it may use the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit registration utility. Microsoft explains the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 documentation.

Avoid loose DLL downloads
Do not download fcatable.dll from a random DLL website or copy it into a Windows directory. A replacement can contain malware, have the wrong version, use the wrong architecture, or require dependencies that are still missing. It can also hide the fact that the application installation is damaged.
Safe sources are:
- The original application installer.
- The application vendor’s official support or software portal.
- Your organization’s managed deployment system.
- Microsoft’s official Visual C++ redistributable page for the runtime.
If the error remains
If reinstalling does not work:
- Confirm which executable produces the message.
- Check for an old shortcut, service, scheduled task, plugin, or second installation.
- Test the application from another Windows user profile.
- Review antivirus history again.
- Check whether the file is present in the application’s own directory.
- Run a full malware scan if the file appeared unexpectedly.
- Back up important data and check the disk if installation failures continue.
- Contact the application vendor or administrator with the exact error text and file path.
A file that exists but will not load usually points to a dependency, permission, corruption, or architecture problem rather than a need to register the DLL.
