Yellow — BE IN CHARGE OF

DIRECT, HEAD, LEAD, RUN

Green — THINGS MADE OF RUBBER

BALLOON, ERASER, GALOSH, TIRE

A galosh is an overshoe, which helps explain its place in the rubber group.

Blue — ASSOCIATED WITH THE GENIE IN “ALADDIN”

BLUE, EARRING, LAMP, WISHES

Purple — RED ____

BULL, CROSS, HERRING, VELVET

Why the trickier words fit

BLUE and LAMP can seem like standalone objects or ideas, but in this set they point to the Genie group associated with Aladdin. The purple set works by adding “Red” before each word: Red Bull, Red Cross, red herring, and red velvet.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared link. TechRadar’s description of the game reports a limit of up to four mistakes and play through NYT Games on desktop or mobile; that is the context reported in its February 2025 guide, not a current access or terms check.
