The safest repair is to identify the program that installed femakro.dll, then repair or reinstall that complete application.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before downloading anything or copying files between Windows folders, check:
- Which program shows the error? Older ArCon, ARCON 3D Architect, and related mb Software applications are the most likely sources.
- When does it appear? Does it happen when launching the program, opening a project, or after an update, cleanup, antivirus detection, or reinstall?
- What is the complete message? “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of
femakro.dllis missing, even when the named file is present. - Where is the application installed? The DLL normally belongs in the application’s own folder or a vendor-specific subfolder, not automatically in
C:WindowsSystem32. - Is the application old and 32-bit? Available file records identify
femakro.dllas a 32-bit Win32 library, but conflicting third-party records exist. Verify the original installer or file properties rather than guessing. - Was the file quarantined? Check Windows Security before replacing anything.
The internal description associated with the file is “FensterMakro-Bibliothek,” meaning “window macro library.” Public file inventories associate it with mb Software AG and older ArCon-family architecture and CAD products. It is not a normal Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or general-purpose Visual C++ redistributable.
Fix 1: Repair the program that requests femakro.dll
This is the fastest and most reliable fix because it restores the DLL together with its companion files and the correct version.

Try Windows’ built-in repair option
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the ArCon or related application that displays the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If the program opens normally, the missing file was restored or the damaged installation was repaired.
Many older desktop applications do not provide an Advanced options repair button. In that case:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the ArCon or related mb Software program.
- Choose Change, Repair, or a similar maintenance option.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not choose Remove unless you already have the original installer, licensed media, or a supported download available.
Fix 2: Reinstall the complete ArCon or related application
If repair is unavailable or does not work, reinstall the exact program that owns the file.

- Save your project files and export any application settings you need.
- Locate the original installer, licensed installation media, or the current official ArCon support and downloads channel.
- Check the installed product name and version before downloading an update or installer.
- Uninstall the damaged application through Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or through Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as an administrator:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Show more options if necessary.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Install to the normal application location unless the vendor documentation requires another path.
- Apply only updates intended for that product and installed version.
- Restart Windows and launch the program.
If the error began immediately after applying a patch, the update may not have completed correctly or may not match the installed major version. Reinstall the matching update after restoring the base application.
A complete reinstall is preferable to downloading femakro.dll separately because the program may also require related files such as macro, dialog, design, or ActiveX components. A file with the right name but the wrong release can still fail to load.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus removed the file
Security software can quarantine an older application component, especially when the file is from a legacy program and no longer has current publisher information.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry whose original path belongs to the ArCon or related application.
- Expand the detection and review its name, location, and action.
- Restore it only when all of these are true:
- You recognize the parent application.
- The original path is inside that application’s installation directory.
- The installer came from a trusted licensed source.
- You can validate the file’s publisher or hash using the original installation source.
Microsoft warns that restoring a threat can cause Defender to detect it again. Do not create a broad exclusion or allow an unknown DLL simply because its filename matches the error.

Fix 4: Confirm the file path and architecture
A legitimate application DLL usually sits beside the executable that uses it or in a subfolder created by that application.

To inspect the location:
- Right-click the program’s shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Search that folder for
femakro.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Review the General, Details, and Digital Signatures tabs when available.
The file’s description may appear as FensterMakro-Bibliothek. Compare its location with the application’s installation folder. A copy sitting in a temporary download directory, an unrelated program folder, or a Windows system directory deserves suspicion.
The strongest available public metadata identifies this file as a 32-bit Win32 DLL, but conflicting third-party listings incorrectly describe it as x64. The application’s architecture matters more than the architecture of Windows:

- A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit desktop applications through its compatibility subsystem.
C:WindowsSystem32is not a general destination for application DLLs. On 64-bit Windows, it primarily contains 64-bit system components.C:WindowsSysWOW64is associated with 32-bit system components on 64-bit Windows, but it is also not a dumping ground for third-party application files.
Do not copy femakro.dll into both folders. Do not replace a file merely because the filename matches. Restore the complete directory from the same licensed application release whenever possible.
Fix 5: Determine whether a dependency is actually missing
Windows can report:
The specified module could not be found.
even when femakro.dll is visible in the application folder. The missing module may be a dependency loaded by femakro.dll.
This can happen because of:
- A missing companion DLL
- A damaged installation
- An incorrect application path
- An incompatible 32-bit or 64-bit component
- A blocked or quarantined dependency
- A missing legacy runtime
- File corruption
First, restart the application after reinstalling it. If the error continues, record the complete message and the application path. Check Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error recorded at the time you launched the program.
- Read the General and Details sections.
- Note the executable name, faulting module, and any listed path.
Do not assume that Visual C++ is the cause. There is no reliable evidence identifying a specific Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, .NET runtime, driver, or Windows update required by femakro.dll.
If the application has a built-in file verification or maintenance function, use it. Otherwise, contact the current ArCon support provider with:
- The exact product name
- The installed product version
- The complete error text
- The application installation path
- Whether the file exists
- Whether antivirus quarantined anything
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
Fix 6: Run Windows repair commands only if other programs are affected
Because femakro.dll is an application file, Windows component repair is not the first step. Use it when other applications also show missing or corrupted system-file errors, or when Windows itself is behaving abnormally.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
Run DISM first:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
Allow each command to complete. Restart Windows afterward and test the ArCon application.

Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, save the exact result and repair the parent application separately. These commands do not replace the vendor’s femakro.dll.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting unnecessarily slow. Fix 7: Use System Restore after a known recent change
If femakro.dll worked until a recent installation, cleanup operation, or system change, System Restore may reverse that change.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the programs and drivers that may be removed or restored.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore does not normally replace personal documents, but it can change installed applications, drivers, and system settings. Use it only after reviewing the affected-program list.
If the restore completes but the application still reports the error, repair or reinstall the parent program.
Updating drivers is rarely the direct fix
A driver update is not normally required for a missing application DLL. Consider it only when the same system change also caused graphics, storage, display, or application-compatibility problems.
For a specific device:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Storage controllers, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Record the provider, date, and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if an update is installed.
Use the hardware manufacturer’s support channel when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. Do not remove a working driver solely because femakro.dll is missing.

Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this error
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide self-registration for COM or ActiveX components. It does not repair an ordinary application library merely because the file ends in .dll.
Do not run commands such as these blindly:
regsvr32 femakro.dll
regsvr32 /i femakro.dll
regsvr32 /u femakro.dll
They may produce an error, alter the registry, or remove registration without restoring the missing dependency. Use registration only when the application’s official documentation specifically identifies that DLL as a self-registering COM or ActiveX component and gives the correct command.
For a normal missing-file message, repair the application instead.

- Its dependencies may still be missing.
- It may place an untrusted library in a location searched by other programs.
- It does not repair the damaged installation that caused the problem.
The safe sources are the original licensed installation media, the current official ArCon support or downloads channel, and a verified backup of the same application installation. If you manually recover the file, place it in the application’s own directory and use a copy from the same licensed release. Do not put it in System32 or SysWOW64 as a workaround.
