A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If a YouTube Live stream appears to repeat or show old frames while FFmpeg loops a video, first check that -stream_loop -1 comes before the input file’s -i option, and that file input is paced with -re. Then compare FFmpeg’s local output with YouTube’s playback and inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages. Those checks help locate the problem; the symptom alone does not establish its cause.
Check the loop and input pacing first
FFmpeg treats -stream_loop and -re as input options, so put them before the -i they apply to. -stream_loop -1 requests indefinite repetition of that input. FFmpeg documents -re as reading input at its native frame rate (equivalent to -readrate 1), which is relevant when a file is being sent to a live output.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 10M -maxrate 10M -bufsize 20M
-g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv 'RTMPS_INGEST_URL/STREAM_NAME'
This is an illustrative starting point, not a tested fix or universal command. Replace the ingest placeholder with the primary RTMPS ingest URL and assigned stream name for your YouTube stream. Never publish your live stream key. The example assumes 30 fps output, making -g 60 a two-second GOP; choose bitrate and encoding options for your actual resolution, frame rate, source, and system. See FFmpeg’s command-line documentation for option behavior and YouTube’s LiveStreams API documentation for ingest addresses and stream status fields.
- If
-stream_loop -1follows the target file’s-i, move it before that input. - For prerecorded file input, check that
-realso precedes the input. Do not apply a low read rate to an actual capture device or live stream; FFmpeg warns this can cause packet loss. - If using stream copy rather than re-encoding, loop behavior can depend on whether the input can seek back to its start and on suitable keyframe and timestamp conditions. Confirm these properties for your file rather than assuming every input loops cleanly.
Option order and pacing are checks, not a diagnosis. A correctly placed loop does not by itself explain why frames look old.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Find out where the old frames first appear
Compare the signal at two points: FFmpeg’s local output, if you can monitor it, and the stream received and played by YouTube. If the local output already shows stale or repeating frames, investigate the file, FFmpeg command, timestamps, and encoding process. If local output looks current but YouTube playback does not, inspect YouTube’s ingest and stream-health information. This comparison narrows the area to investigate; it does not prove a specific cause.
- Save the exact command you ran, with the stream key removed.
- Record your FFmpeg version, source-file format and properties, and relevant log output.
- Check whether the same old frames appear in local output or only in YouTube playback.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and review stream-health messages while live. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. The YouTube encoder-settings guide includes its current setup guidance.
- If you need to investigate stream status programmatically, consult the LiveStreams API fields.
Check the encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, checked on October 3, 2026, lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency, not exceeding four seconds. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees that a stream will be healthy.

For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps as the minimum video bitrate and 14 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate. Its stereo-audio guidance is AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, at 128 kbps. Use the relevant bitrate guidance for your actual output resolution and frame rate, and make sure your connection can sustain the selected upload rate. If it cannot, lower the configured quality and test again. Recheck YouTube’s current encoder table because recommendations can change.
Work through the symptom without guessing
Frames are already stale in FFmpeg’s local output
- Recheck input-option placement and real-time pacing for the file.
- Review the source and relevant timestamps, particularly around the loop boundary.
- Keep the command and FFmpeg logs intact when seeking help. The available symptom description alone cannot establish whether timestamps, encoding performance, or another local factor is responsible.
Local output looks current, but YouTube playback does not
- Read YouTube’s stream-health messages and check for configuration or ingest issues.
- Verify codec, output frame rate, CBR, bitrate, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current recommendations.
- Check whether the connection can reliably sustain the chosen upload bitrate; if not, reduce the configured quality and test again.
The loop stops behaving as expected at the file boundary
Confirm that the input can seek to its beginning and, if using stream copy, that its keyframes and timestamps are suitable for that operation. The command and file properties are needed to assess this branch; a loop-boundary timestamp problem is not established merely because the stream shows old frames.
