What controls and settings are announced for the Switch version?
SNK’s 1988 golf game is described as letting players choose from four characters with different distance and accuracy strengths and play 18 holes. The announcement says the game offers hole advice before play and automatically selects an optimal club based on distance to the pin. For Original Mode, the announcement lists:

- Button remapping
- Rapid-fire options
- Multiple save files
- Rewind to undo the last move
It does not specify where these options appear, which inputs can be changed, the default button assignments, or whether the settings work the same way in every mode. Treat them as announced features rather than confirmed menu instructions.

- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping.
- Select the connected controller and choose Change.
- Select the button you want to change, then assign another available function or disable that input.
- Repeat for each controller you want to configure.
Nintendo documents support for left and right Joy-Con, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and Nintendo Switch Lite buttons. A Pro Controller is not required. See Nintendo’s button-mapping instructions.
Nintendo says a custom mapping applies in nearly all console contexts, including games. Exceptions include controller button tests and stick or motion calibration. Game remapping or console remapping?

The two approaches have different scopes: one is an announced game feature, while the other changes a controller’s mapping through Switch settings. The available sources do not establish whether Fighting Golf’s prompts reflect either change, or how the two options interact. After launch, check the game’s own settings and on-screen prompts to confirm that your preferred mapping produces the expected actions.
Which controller should you use?
There is no confirmed game-specific ergonomic advantage for one controller. Use a controller you already own and find comfortable: Nintendo documents button mapping for Joy-Con, Switch Lite, and Pro Controller. Changing hardware is not necessary just to access system-level remapping.
What remains unconfirmed
The announcement does not provide a button-by-button layout, exact in-game settings path, or mode-by-mode remapping behavior. Until those details are confirmed in the released game or its manual, avoid relying on a specific button diagram or assuming that a changed button will also change the game’s labels. The Switch release was announced for October 8, 2026; the announcement itself is not proof of how the options behave after release.
