The January 2027 listing is for a Final Fantasy Series Mini Melody TV collectible featuring Final Fantasy VI’s “Searching for Friends”—not for a new release of Final Fantasy VI. The retailer lists the series for January 2027; a September 1, 2026 report attributes a January 29, 2027 Japan release date to Square Enix. That exact date and territory are reported details, not independently confirmed here by a direct Square Enix announcement.
What is releasing in January 2027?
JumpIchiban lists a six-item Final Fantasy Series Mini Melody TV collection from Square Enix, with one variant playing “Searching for Friends” from Final Fantasy VI. The product is a miniature CRT television-shaped collectible with LED illumination and a melody, rather than a game, soundtrack release, or conventional music box.

The retailer lists January 2027 as the series release month. Siliconera’s September 1, 2026 report says Square Enix announced the series for Japan and gives January 29, 2027 as the release date. Because the direct announcement was not available alongside those listings, treat the day and Japan scope as reported details; schedules and availability can change.
Will a box contain the Final Fantasy VI version?
No particular variant is assured. JumpIchiban says each box contains one of six types selected at random, and even purchasing a box of six is not guaranteed to provide all six unique designs. If the “Searching for Friends” version is the one you want, check the seller’s listing and variant-selection terms before buying rather than assuming a random box will include it.

How is it different from other “Searching for Friends” products?
| Product | Format and contents | Timing and region stated in the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Final Fantasy Series Mini Melody TV | Miniature, illuminated CRT-shaped collectible with a melody; the Final Fantasy VI variant is one of six randomized types. [JumpIchiban listing] | JumpIchiban lists January 2027. Siliconera reports January 29, 2027, in Japan. [Siliconera, September 1, 2026] |
| Final Fantasy VI “Searching for Friends” music box | A separate music box that plays the track and depicts the Falcon airship on its lid; approximately 5.99 × 3.50 × 5.00 cm. [Square Enix Store Europe] | The North American Final Fantasy Portal listing dates this product to August 2022. [Final Fantasy Portal Site] |
| Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster Original Soundtrack CD | A soundtrack recording whose listed tracks include “Searching for Friends.” [Square Enix Store North America] | The North American store page lists March 2026 as its release date. |
These formats serve different purposes: the Mini Melody TV is a small electronic melody collectible, the music box is a separate physical product, and the CD is a soundtrack recording. The listed Mini Melody TV variant is randomized; the cited sources do not provide hands-on comparisons of sound or build quality.

Is Final Fantasy VI itself new in 2027?
No. The January 2027 date concerns merchandise tied to the game’s music. Square Enix said Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster became available on Steam and mobile in North America on February 23, 2022. The Mini Melody TV announcement should not be described as a new Final Fantasy VI game launch.

What to check before buying
- Confirm that the listing is for the Mini Melody TV and explicitly identifies the “Searching for Friends” variant; a series-level or random-box listing may not let you select it.
- Read the seller’s variant and return terms, especially if buying multiple boxes, since a six-box purchase does not guarantee a complete set.
- Check the seller’s current release timing and shipping territory. The January 2027 month comes from the retailer listing, while the January 29 date and Japan availability are reported by Siliconera.
- Factor in the separately sold AAA alkaline battery noted by the retailer.
