Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2: Editions, Yuffie DLC and Bonuses Explained

By VGSources Team 9 min read

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026. The package includes the expanded remake of Midgar and FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, the Yuffie Kisaragi episode set during the main game’s events. You do not need to buy the Yuffie story separately when you purchase Intergrade.

Nintendo also lists a separate Digital Deluxe Edition. Its exact digital-extra lineup must be checked on the eShop page for your country, while Square Enix identifies the Cacstar weapon as a Switch 2 bonus for use in the Yuffie episode. An original FINAL FANTASY VII promotion applied to pre-orders made before January 31, 2026, so treat that offer as historical unless a retailer confirms a current redemption opportunity.

Switch 2 release: the essential facts

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE is the expanded version of Square Enix’s remake, released on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026. The base campaign retells the Midgar portion of the 1997 FINAL FANTASY VII, with modern presentation, reworked combat and a substantially expanded story treatment of that opening setting.

What the standard Intergrade purchase contains

The complete remake campaign

The central product is the expanded FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE campaign. It follows Cloud Strife and the other members of Avalanche through a reimagined Midgar. The game is not the entire 1997 adventure: its story scope is the Midgar portion, expanded into a full-length modern role-playing game.

Buying the standard Intergrade edition gives you that main campaign on Switch 2. The wording “Intergrade” refers to the expanded edition package rather than a separate chapter that replaces the remake. If your priority is the principal Cloud-led story, the standard listing is the straightforward choice.

FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is bundled

EPISODE INTERmission is an additional story arc focused on Yuffie Kisaragi. Its events take place during the period covered by the main remake, so it is a side perspective on the same broad storyline rather than a sequel campaign. Square Enix’s product description also identifies gameplay additions associated with the episode.

The important buying distinction is that Intermission is included with FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE on Switch 2. You should not purchase a separate Yuffie add-on for this edition. If an eShop page shows multiple products, make sure the title explicitly says “INTERGRADE” rather than a base remake listing that omits the episode.

What “included” does not imply

  • It does not mean the 1997 original game is permanently bundled as a standard feature.
  • It does not make the Yuffie episode part of the main campaign’s Cloud save path; it is presented as its own episode.
  • It does not guarantee every digital-deluxe item. Those extras belong to the separate Digital Deluxe Edition and vary by the items stated on the local storefront page.

Standard versus Digital Deluxe Edition

Nintendo lists a distinct Switch 2 Digital Deluxe Edition. Both listings are built around Intergrade, so the key question is whether the additional digital material justifies the higher price in your region. The available product information confirms that the Digital Deluxe Edition provides access to the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer through a code sent after eShop payment. It does not provide a universal item list for every country in the material available here.

Feature Standard Intergrade Digital Deluxe Edition
Switch 2 remake campaign Included Included
FF7R EPISODE INTERmission Included Included
Cacstar bonus Listed as a Switch 2 version bonus for the Yuffie episode Listed as a Switch 2 version bonus for the Yuffie episode
Square Enix Digital Content Viewer Not stated as part of the standard listing Access supplied with a code sent after eShop payment
Complete deluxe item breakdown Not applicable Not stated in the available Nintendo listing; check your country’s eShop page
Original FINAL FANTASY VII promotion Only if the qualifying pre-order offer applied Only if the qualifying pre-order offer applied

The Digital Content Viewer is not described as a separate Switch 2 game. Nintendo’s listing says its access code is sent after payment through the eShop. Keep the Nintendo Account email and purchase confirmation available until the code arrives, and read the redemption instructions attached to your regional listing.

How to choose between the two

  • Choose standard Intergrade if you want the remake and Yuffie episode and do not specifically need the digital viewer or other deluxe material.
  • Choose Digital Deluxe if the eShop page in your country names digital extras you want and the price difference is acceptable.
  • Do not pay extra for a rumored item list. If an item is not named on the local Nintendo listing, regard it as unconfirmed rather than assuming it is included.

The Cacstar weapon: where it works and where it does not

Square Enix’s Switch 2 purchase page lists the Cacstar weapon as a platform bonus. Its stated limitation is important: Cacstar can be used only in FF7R EPISODE Intermission, the Yuffie episode. It is not a general weapon for Cloud’s main campaign, and owning Intergrade does not turn it into an item usable in every mode.

Because the bonus is tied to the Switch 2 version, confirm the entitlement on the exact eShop or retailer listing you are buying. A code bundled with a different platform edition should not be assumed to transfer to Switch 2. The listing’s region, edition name and redemption instructions take precedence over screenshots or older product descriptions.

The original FINAL FANTASY VII promotion

Square Enix’s buy page identified the original FINAL FANTASY VII as an early-purchase bonus for pre-orders placed before January 31, 2026. That date has passed. The offer should therefore be described as a historical or potentially expired promotion, not as a guaranteed component of every Switch 2 purchase.

If you are buying after the deadline, look for an explicit statement on the current Nintendo or retailer page that the original game is still supplied. A listing that only says “Intergrade” does not, by itself, establish that the 1997 title is included. Promotional eligibility can also depend on territory, purchase date and whether a code was already claimed.

Does Switch 2 Intergrade have a physical cartridge?

The available product information establishes Nintendo eShop editions and does not establish a physical cartridge release, a universal retail code, or Amazon stock for every country. Do not assume that a search result, marketplace listing or used copy contains the same bonuses as the eShop version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before paying for a physical-looking listing, verify all of the following on the seller’s page:

  • It names FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE for Nintendo Switch 2, not a PlayStation or Xbox edition.
  • It identifies whether the product is a cartridge, a download code or an account-based delivery.
  • It states whether EPISODE INTERmission is included.
  • It explains the region and whether the code can be redeemed by your Nintendo Account.
  • It specifies whether Cacstar or any other bonus is included and whether the code has an expiration date.

If any of those details are missing, treat the listing as unverified. Prices, stock, package format and promotional eligibility are retailer- and country-specific and can change without changing the game’s underlying edition.

How to verify your purchase on Nintendo eShop

  1. Open the Nintendo eShop on your Switch 2. Select the Nintendo Account that will own and play the game.
  2. Search the complete title. Enter “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE” and check that the platform is Nintendo Switch 2.
  3. Read the edition label. Decide whether the page says standard or Digital Deluxe before selecting the purchase button.
  4. Expand the product details. Confirm that FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is listed as included. If it is absent, you may be viewing a different product.
  5. Review bonus language. Look for the Cacstar statement and any date-limited promotion. Do not treat a general Intergrade description as proof that the original FINAL FANTASY VII is included.
  6. Check the Digital Deluxe delivery note. If buying Digital Deluxe, confirm that the listing explains the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer code delivered after payment.
  7. Verify territory and price. The amount, tax, currency, availability and promotion terms shown on your eShop are the ones that apply to your account.
  8. Save the confirmation. Keep the purchase email and any post-payment code. If the viewer code does not arrive, use the support path shown in the Nintendo confirmation rather than buying the game again.

When should you play Intermission?

Yuffie’s episode is set during the events of the main remake. The package does not require you to buy another game, but the best order depends on how much context you want.

For first-time players

Start with the main remake and play far enough to understand Midgar’s factions, Shinra and Avalanche before beginning Intermission. Yuffie’s story introduces its own mission and characters, but it takes place against the backdrop of the main game. Playing the opening campaign first reduces the chance that the episode’s setting and references feel abrupt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For returning remake players

If you already know the main campaign, you can begin the Yuffie episode immediately after installing Intergrade. It is a separate story selection rather than a replacement for your existing Cloud progression. Check which save file the game asks you to use and keep your original save data intact.

Why the Switch 2 edition matters

The Switch 2 launch makes Intergrade available on Nintendo’s newer hardware, while Square Enix’s release wording also identifies simultaneous availability on Xbox platforms and PC with Play Anywhere and cloud-gaming support. Those platform versions can have different entitlement rules and bonus handling. The fact that a Cacstar offer exists for Switch 2 should not be used to infer identical bonuses elsewhere.

Square Enix announced in 2025 that more than seven million copies of the remake had shipped and sold digitally worldwide on PlayStation and PC platforms. That figure is a historical company announcement, not a Switch 2 sales total, and it does not establish how many copies were sold on any particular storefront.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Buying a base remake listing instead of Intergrade

Symptom: the product page does not mention Yuffie or EPISODE INTERmission.
Fix: return to the search results and select the listing whose title explicitly includes “INTERGRADE.”

Assuming Cacstar works in the main story

Symptom: you expect the weapon to appear in Cloud’s equipment menu.
Fix: launch EPISODE INTERmission and check the Yuffie episode’s equipment or item instructions. The bonus is limited to that episode.

Expecting the original game after the promotion deadline

Symptom: the purchase confirmation contains Intergrade but no copy of the 1997 game.
Fix: check whether your order was a qualifying pre-order made before January 31, 2026. For later purchases, only a current, explicit retailer offer can establish eligibility.

Confusing Digital Deluxe access with a game download

Symptom: you are waiting for another full game to download after buying Digital Deluxe.
Fix: review the post-payment message. Nintendo describes the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer as access delivered by code, so follow the code’s redemption instructions.

Relying on a marketplace description

Symptom: a third-party listing promises a cartridge, code or bonus without naming the region.
Fix: compare it with the current Nintendo eShop listing and ask the seller to identify the format, region and unused-code status before purchase.

Final buying checklist

  • Confirm the title is FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE for Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Confirm FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is included.
  • Choose standard or Digital Deluxe based on the extras named by your local eShop.
  • Understand that Cacstar is restricted to the Yuffie episode.
  • Treat the original FINAL FANTASY VII as an expired or historical pre-order bonus unless a current offer says otherwise.
  • Verify physical-versus-code format, region, price and stock with the specific retailer.
  • Keep your purchase confirmation and any Digital Content Viewer code.

The Bottom Line

For most Switch 2 players, standard FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE is the complete story package because it includes both the Midgar remake and Yuffie’s EPISODE INTERmission. Buy Digital Deluxe only for the additional digital material identified on your regional eShop page, and do not assume that the original 1997 game or a physical cartridge is included after the January 31, 2026 pre-order promotion ended.
