FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE is an impressive fit for Nintendo Switch 2 if you want to play its cinematic action RPG on the go. TechRadar’s reviewer reported that handheld play worked well after many hours with the game, while also noting softer visuals and a less-smooth frame-rate presentation than on non-handheld versions. The trade-off is clear: portability is the appeal; players prioritizing image quality and value may prefer PS5.
What the Switch 2 version includes
The release is FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE, an expanded version of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. It includes the main game and FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, a Yuffie Kisaragi story episode set during the events of the main game. Standard and Digital Deluxe editions
The standard edition includes the game and Yuffie episode. Nintendo’s UK Digital Deluxe listing adds a digital art book, mini-soundtrack and in-game bonus items. Access to the art book and soundtrack requires a Square Enix account and uses the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer. Physical edition bonus
Square Enix lists a physical standard edition with a reversible cover bonus and a Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Play Booster while supplies last. The official US-facing page says the booster contains 15 random cards, while the Japanese store page says 14; the regional listings conflict, so there is no single card count to rely on. How it plays on Switch 2
TechRadar’s reviewer says the game runs well in handheld mode, but looks more “framey” and lower quality than versions played on non-handheld hardware. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a published frame-rate measurement or a controlled comparison. Their review describes many hours across docked and handheld play, including the story, side quests and minigames. The practical question is whether the convenience of handheld play outweighs the visual compromise. If you have a PS5 and do not care about playing portably, TechRadar’s reviewer recommends considering PS5 for the best quality and value. That is their recommendation, not a universal price comparison: the review does not establish a complete, current price table across platforms or editions.
Combat and accessibility considerations
This is an action-oriented combat system, not the classic turn-based style some longtime RPG players may expect. The remake blends real-time action with command-based decisions, so combat feel is a meaningful part of the platform choice, not just a technical detail. Release details, storage and platform compatibility
The Switch 2 release date was January 22, 2026, also announced for Xbox by Square Enix. Nintendo’s UK store listing marks the game as Switch 2 software, gives a 90.4 GB download size and a PEGI 16 rating, and explicitly says it cannot be played on the original Nintendo Switch. Those are UK listing details; check your own eShop page for current download size, language, rating and regional availability. Nintendo UK’s product page has the regional specifications.
Square Enix also announced optional Streamlined Progression settings: unlimited HP and MP, unlimited limit and ATB gauges during battles, 9,999 damage, and easier weapon-ability acquisition. Who should choose the Switch 2 version?
- Choose Switch 2 if handheld access is a priority and you want the complete Intergrade package, including Yuffie’s episode.
- Consider PS5 if you own one, will play on a television, and prioritize image quality and the value proposition highlighted by TechRadar’s reviewer.

Square Enix reported that more than seven million copies had shipped and sold digitally worldwide on PlayStation and PC platforms as of its April 2, 2025 announcement. That figure is limited to those platforms and that date; it is not a Switch 2 sales number or an all-platform lifetime total. Square Enix’s announcement gives the dated figure.
