Square Enix showed footage from the final recording sessions for FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION at a New York City Comic Con panel, and Kotaku reported on October 8, 2026 that Briana White (English Aerith) and Britt Baron (English Tifa) are shown crying in the booth. The same footage mixes those moments with comedy, and Kotaku also reports that Travis Willingham is taking over the English role of Sephiroth from Tyler Hoechlin.
What was shown at the panel
The footage was screened at a New York City Comic Con panel featuring many of the main performers from the remake trilogy. According to Kotaku’s Kenneth Shepard, the clips came from some of the last recording sessions for the game, which Square Enix presents as the conclusion of its remake trilogy. The first game in that trilogy launched in 2020.
Kotaku’s article describes the footage rather than providing a transcript or a publicly available recording. Whether the clips will be released beyond the panel is not established in the reporting, so readers should treat the descriptions below as second-hand accounts.
The emotional moments
The emotional focus of the report is on the two performers who voice the party’s most recognizable pair. Kotaku’s deck puts it directly: “Aerith and Tifa’s actors, Briana White and Britt Baron, cried in the booth.” The article attributes that description to the footage and does not present it as something its author observed firsthand.

The clips are not solely sombre. Shepard describes them as mixing emotional material with comic moments, and one of the lighter examples he cites is Sephiroth saying his favorite Doritos flavor is Cool Ranch. Kotaku reports that line as shown in the footage; it is not an official statement.
The Sephiroth recasting
Kotaku reports that Travis Willingham is taking over the English role of Sephiroth in FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION because Tyler Hoechlin had scheduling issues. The footage reportedly showed Willingham performing the role behind the scenes for the first time. The scheduling explanation is Kotaku’s reporting; no official statement from Square Enix or the actors on the change appears in the source material.
What the reporting does and does not establish
- Established by Kotaku’s report (October 8, 2026): final recording sessions were filmed or recorded, footage was shown at the New York City Comic Con panel, White and Baron are reported as crying in the booth, and Willingham replaces Hoechlin as English Sephiroth.
- Not established: the full content of the footage, any direct quote from the actors about the sessions, the number of hours or years spent recording, and how much of the original story Revelation follows. Kotaku’s view is that the extent of departure from the original story remains unclear.
- Not independently verified here: the emotional reactions and the Cool Ranch line, which come from the reporter’s description of footage that this article has not viewed.
