Final Fantasy XV’s New Game+ (NG+) restarts the story while preserving much of your character progression and inventory. A December 21, 2016 guide says you begin NG+ from the main menu after finishing the game. You keep substantial progress, but the world opens up again through the story, and the guide reports no enemy scaling or added hard mode.
How to start New Game+
After completing the game, select New Game+ from the main menu, according to GosuNoob’s December 21, 2016 guide. It starts the story over rather than creating a clean save: your party retains many accumulated character and inventory records, while world and story access return to their early-game state.
What carries over in New Game+
The guide lists the following as retained when starting NG+:
- Experience and character levels.
- Royal Arms and other weapons you have found.
- Earned Ascension skills and attribute points.
- Character skills.
- Found Magic Flasks.
- Photos, fish information, and cooking recipes.
- Earned and unspent gil.
- Outfits.
- Almost all Regalia customizations.
- Found items.
The source is a launch-era guide, not an official current specification or firsthand test. Treat its detailed inventory list as reported NG+ behavior rather than a guarantee for every platform or later update.

What does not carry over into NG+?
World exploration and some story-linked access reset. The guide says discovered points of interest and fast-travel locations disappear, regions that unlock later in the story must be reached again by progressing through their chapters, and hunter rank resets. Chocobos are unavailable at the start of the replay.
Two named vehicle upgrades are exceptions to the carryover list: the upgraded Engine Blade and the Type-F Flying Regalia do not carry over, the guide reports. The ordinary Engine Blade and Regalia forms return.

- An import from Square Enix
- Redesigned joint structure
- Includes a mechanism that allows eyes to move
- Interchangeable face part with red eyes and multiple pairs of hands included
- Accessories include Engine Blade, one-handed sword, and hand wearing the Ring of the Lucii
Does New Game+ make enemies harder?
No added challenge is reported. The same 2016 guide says enemies do not scale to the player’s level and NG+ does not add a hard mode. Because levels and much of your equipment carry forward, early encounters may therefore be much easier than they were on your first run.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need Royal Edition to play New Game+?
The cited NG+ guide does not make Royal Edition a requirement. Square Enix’s Japanese Royal Edition product page describes that edition as bundling the main game, Royal Pack, Season Pass, and bonus items; it lists Royal Pack additions such as an Insomnia extra map, True Armiger, cruiser control, and first-person mode. Those are edition contents, not stated prerequisites for starting New Game+.
