If firstload.dll is missing, not found, or cannot be loaded, repair the QQ or TIM installation before trying Windows-wide repairs.
Identify the program and file
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Program launching the error | QQ.exe or TIM.exe, shown in the message, shortcut, or Task Manager |
| Expected location | The program’s own Bin folder, such as TencentQQBin or TencentTIMBin |
| Windows system file | No. It is not a standard Windows, DirectX, .NET, or driver component |
| Architecture | Historical records show 32-bit copies, but there is no complete official version inventory |
| Internal function | Not publicly documented by Tencent |
Do not assume every current QQ or TIM release contains the same file. Historical records show multiple QQ and TIM versions with their own application-private copies. That means a DLL taken from another release may be the wrong version even when its filename matches.
First, check the shortcut:
- Right-click the QQ or TIM shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field.
- Confirm which executable Windows is starting.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for a
Binfolder beside the executable.
If the error comes from an old shortcut, you may be repairing an obsolete installation while a newer QQ installation exists elsewhere.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall QQ or TIM
A damaged, incomplete, or partially removed application is the most likely cause.

If QQ or TIM still opens
Use its built-in update or repair option if one is available. Then restart Windows and test the program again.
If the program opens only intermittently:
- Close QQ or TIM.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End any remaining
QQ.exe,TIM.exe, or related Tencent processes. - Start the program again using Run as administrator:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Check whether the error returns.
Running as administrator is a diagnostic step, not a permanent repair. If it works only with elevation, permissions or security software may be interfering with the installation.
If the program will not start
Download the current QQ installer from Tencent’s official QQ Windows download page. For TIM, use Tencent’s official distribution source if the product is still available for your region and Windows version. Do not use a standalone DLL download.
Before uninstalling, back up any important chat data, saved files, or application settings that are stored outside your account.
Then:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Tencent QQ or TIM.
- Select the three-dot menu, then choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original Tencent installer.
- Install the program to its normal location.
- Launch QQ or TIM and test again.
After installation, the expected Bin directory should contain the vendor-installed FirstLoad.dll where that release requires it. Do not rename another DLL to firstload.dll.
If reinstalling does not help, check the next section before installing the program repeatedly.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. Check this before assuming the installer failed.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries.
- Look for an entry identifying
FirstLoad.dllinside a genuine QQ or TIM installation. - Read the detection details and file path.
Do not restore a file solely because its name matches the error. Restore it only when:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- the path is inside the genuine Tencent QQ or TIM directory;
- you installed the program from Tencent’s official source;
- the detection is clearly a false positive or a known quarantine event.
If you restore the file and Windows Security immediately quarantines it again, do not keep forcing the restore. Reinstall QQ or TIM from the official installer and investigate the security detection. Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again unless it is explicitly allowed.
A clean reinstall is safer than creating a broad antivirus exclusion. Never disable protection system-wide to make a DLL error disappear.
Fix 3: Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
A “specified module could not be found” message does not always mean that firstload.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load one of its dependencies.

- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
Historical QQ module records show MSVCP140.dll and ucrtbase.dll loaded alongside FirstLoad.dll. This makes the Visual C++ runtime worth checking, especially when FirstLoad.dll exists but the program still fails.
Recommended Free Tools
For a 32-bit QQ or TIM process on 64-bit Windows, install or repair the x86 Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable. Windows being 64-bit does not make the application 64-bit.
- Open Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable page.
- Download the official x86 package for a 32-bit QQ or TIM installation.
- Run
vc_redist.x86.exe. - Choose Repair if offered.
- If Repair is not offered, complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch QQ or TIM again.
If the affected application is confirmed to be 64-bit, use the official x64 package instead. Do not mix a DLL from one architecture with an executable from another.
If the error specifically names MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIME140.dll, or ucrtbase.dll, this step has higher priority. If the error still names only firstload.dll, reinstalling QQ or TIM remains the definitive repair.
Fix 4: Check the file path and version mismatch
A DLL can exist and still fail because it belongs to another QQ or TIM release.
Check the file without replacing it:
- Open the QQ or TIM installation folder.
- Open
Bin. - Right-click
FirstLoad.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Review the displayed file information.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Confirm that the file is located inside the intended application directory.
Historical records include different QQ and TIM versions, including 32-bit copies. Those records are not a universal version list, and they do not establish one correct file size or hash for every installation.
Errors such as “not designed to run on Windows,” an entry-point error, or 0xc000007b often point to an architecture or version mismatch. Remove the mismatched copy by reinstalling the exact QQ or TIM release instead of copying a replacement from another computer.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when other programs are failing
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a missing private Tencent DLL. Use them when several unrelated applications or Windows features are also failing, not as the primary repair for a missing FirstLoad.dll.
Install pending Windows updates first:
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then run the supported repair sequence:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test QQ or TIM.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired corruption or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports that some files could not be repaired, restart and run it once more after DISM. Do not expect either command to restore TencentQQBinFirstLoad.dll.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed makes this step difficult to troubleshoot manually. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the Windows-side problems behind repeated repair work; its free scan shows what it found, while repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling QQ or TIM remains the definitive fix when the private application DLL itself is missing.
Fix 6: Investigate drivers only when the error names one
There is no verified evidence that firstload.dll is a driver component. Do not reinstall graphics, audio, chipset, or DirectX drivers just because QQ will not start.
Use Device Manager only when the error identifies a device or driver, or when several applications show graphics or hardware failures:

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If Windows reports that the best driver is already installed, use the computer or device manufacturer’s official support page rather than a random driver package. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show the affected versions; the free scan identifies the problem, while installation is performed by the full version. A driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling QQ or TIM when firstload.dll is the only reported failure.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is reasonable if the error began immediately after a cleanup utility, application update, driver installation, or other system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Let Windows restart and complete the restore.
System Restore may remove a recent application or update, so back up important work first. If the problem continues afterward, reinstall QQ or TIM from the official Tencent installer.
What not to do
Do not download a random DLL
Standalone DLL download sites can provide malware, an incorrect version, or the wrong architecture. Even a clean file may not fix the missing dependency that caused the error.
The safe sources are:
- the original Tencent QQ or TIM installer;
- a trusted backup from the same installation and release;
- Microsoft’s official Visual C++ packages when a runtime dependency is implicated.
Do not copy firstload.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. The file belongs in the application’s own directory when that version uses it.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for registering applicable COM and OLE components. It does not restore an ordinary QQ/TIM application DLL or repair its dependencies. Registration errors can add confusion without changing the original problem.
Do not use SFC or DISM to replace the Tencent file
These commands repair protected Windows files. They are not an application package manager and should not be expected to rebuild QQ or TIM’s private Bin folder.
FAQ
Is firstload.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence supports that. Observed copies are associated with QQ or TIM application directories, not the Windows system directories.
Is it safe to delete firstload.dll?
No. If it belongs to the active QQ or TIM installation, deleting it can prevent the program from starting. Reinstall the application instead.
Should I install both x86 and x64 Visual C++ packages?
Install the architecture that matches the application. A 32-bit QQ or TIM process normally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows.
Why does the error remain when the DLL is present?
A dependency such as the Visual C++ runtime may be missing, the DLL may be from another release, or antivirus software may be blocking part of the installation.
Could DirectX, .NET, or a graphics driver be responsible?
There is no verified public evidence tying firstload.dll to those components. Check them only when the actual error or broader symptoms identify one of them.
What if reinstalling and repairing Visual C++ do not work?
Record the full error text, the executable path, the FirstLoad.dll path, whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, and the Windows version. Check Protection history again, then contact Tencent support rather than replacing files manually or using registry cleaners.
