- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.

If the printer is not listed:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Look for the Canon printer name.
For a scanner problem, also check Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Scanners. Write down the exact model before removing anything.
2. Remove Canon software
- Disconnect or turn off the printer.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Uninstall the model-specific entry named Canon [model] MP Drivers.
- If scanning is affected, also uninstall IJ Scan Utility, IJ Scanner Selector, or related Canon utilities.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove unrelated Microsoft printer components merely because their names include “printer” or “driver.”
3. Remove the old printer entry
After restarting:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Canon printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
If several Canon printers were installed, remove stale entries that refer to the same physical printer or an obsolete model.

4. Download the replacement package
Open Canon’s official Support site, search for the exact printer model, select your Windows version, and choose the current MP Drivers, Full Driver & Software Package, or model-specific Windows driver.

Run the downloaded Canon installer. Reconnect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
5. Confirm the result
The repair worked if:
- The Canon printer appears again under Printers & scanners.
- A Windows test page prints.
- Canon IJ utilities open without the DLL error.
- Scanning works if that was the affected function.
- The error does not return after restarting Windows.
If the installer fails, remove the old Canon package again, restart, and run the installer as an administrator. Do not copy a replacement DLL into System32.
A driver updater can reduce the work of checking which hardware packages are stale, but it is not a substitute for the exact Canon model package. Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine

- Inspect entries created when the printer or scanner stopped working.
- Check the detected path and threat name.
Do not restore the file merely because its name matches the error. If the detection is a confirmed false positive, install a fresh Canon package from Canon’s official Support site instead of restoring an isolated DLL.
If Windows Security identifies an active threat, follow its removal instructions first. Reinstalling the Canon package is safer than allowing an uncertain file back into the system.

Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 32-bit Canon utility can require a 32-bit driver component even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing an arbitrary 64-bit copy of cnbjop7f.dll beside that utility will not correct the mismatch.

To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
Use the Canon package offered for your exact Windows version and printer model. Do not choose a DLL based on its reported file size, filename, or an old catalog entry.
If the error says the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect one of these:
- A damaged DLL
- The wrong architecture
- A mismatched Canon driver generation
- An incomplete installation
- A missing dependent module
Replace the complete driver package rather than only replacing the named file.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these tools when several unrelated Windows components are failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the problem started after broader system corruption. They do not specifically reinstall a third-party Canon driver.

- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations.
If SFC reports no violations but the Canon error remains, that does not prove the Canon driver is healthy. SFC primarily checks protected Windows components, not every third-party printer file.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time when the real problem is an incomplete Canon installation. Fix 5: Reinstall through Device Manager
Device Manager can help when Windows still has a broken Canon device entry, but it may not install all Canon utilities or scanner components.

- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the Canon device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the model-specific Canon package.
If the Canon device is not visible, select View → Show hidden devices and remove only clearly obsolete Canon entries. A Device Manager reinstall is successful when the device returns without a warning icon and the Canon installer or Windows test page works.
Windows Features are usually not the answer
Do not enable random Windows Features such as .NET Framework, legacy components, or printing features just because a DLL error appears. cnbjop7f.dll is identified as a Canon driver component, not a missing Windows optional feature.
You can review features by opening Settings → System → Optional features → More Windows features, but changing them is appropriate only when a separate application explicitly requires a named Windows component. It will not replace a damaged Canon driver package.

Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 cnbjop7f.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no reliable public evidence that cnbjop7f.dll requires manual registration.
The command may produce an error saying that DllRegisterServer was not found, or it may appear to succeed without repairing the printer. Canon printer drivers are installed through their signed driver package, setup files, and configuration data.
What not to do
Avoid these common dead ends:
- Downloading
cnbjop7f.dllfrom a DLL mirror - Copying a DLL into
C:WindowsSystem32 - Copying a 32-bit file into a 64-bit driver location, or the reverse
- Editing files inside
DriverStore - Using a DLL “fixer” that bundles unrelated software
- Running
regsvr32repeatedly - Restoring an antivirus-quarantined file without checking the detection
- Installing a Canon driver for a similar but different printer model
A standalone DLL does not include the INF file, catalog, configuration, dependencies, or complete driver package. Microsoft also advises against adding, removing, or modifying files directly in the Driver Store.

If reinstalling Canon software still fails
If the error continues:
- Remove every obsolete Canon queue for the affected printer.
- Uninstall the matching Canon MP Drivers and scanning utilities.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Protection History again.
- Run DISM and SFC if other Windows components are also failing.
- Install the latest exact-model Canon package.
- Test printing and scanning separately.
If the failure began immediately after a known Windows, driver, or software change and normal reinstalling does not help, use System Restore:
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore can remove later drivers, applications, settings, and updates. Use it only when the timing is clear.
