Fishing Inc is a cozy incremental fishing game from BigBonk Studio. The Steam listing gives an April 14, 2026 release date, while the Google Play listing describes the same travel, catch, upgrade, and collection structure on Android. Progress is not a separate experience-level ladder with published thresholds; it is a cycle of opening fishing opportunities, improving your ability to land difficult fish, and completing the collection attached to each opportunity.

- Choose a fishing spot or pond. Each location has its own fish roster, so traveling is the way you reach species that are unavailable in earlier areas.
- Fish through the active interaction. Steam explains that you click until you reach a target before the fish is lost. The practical skill is managing the interaction accurately enough to finish the catch rather than simply clicking as quickly as possible.
- Return with your haul. Catches generate cash that funds future improvements. The store descriptions frame cash as the resource earned on trips and spent on progression.
- Buy skills and equipment. Upgrades are intended to help with larger, tougher, and more exotic species, so a difficult catch is usually a signal to improve the relevant capability rather than remain on the same target indefinitely.
- Record discoveries in the Fish Log. Discovering species and finding Legendary fish turns the cash-and-upgrade loop into a completion goal. The log is the useful measure of progress once ordinary catches are no longer a challenge.
This structure explains why the most efficient route changes over time. At the beginning, the question is whether an upgrade makes the next difficult catch possible. Later, the question is which location, rarity, or tracker entry contains the missing record.

Locations function as progression gates because each pond exposes a different set of fish. The official Steam and Google Play descriptions confirm many locations and ponds, but they do not publish a complete location list, official names for every area, unlock levels, rarity tables, or per-spot drop rates.

- A new area is valuable primarily because it changes the species you can encounter.
- Traveling is part of the progression loop, not a cosmetic map activity.
- If a species is absent from your current Fish Log opportunities, another pond may be required.
- The game’s current in-game travel screen is the authoritative place to check what is available to your account.
What has not been specified publicly
No canonical guide currently establishes a universal “unlock pond at level X” table. Do not treat a player-made list, a stream overlay, or a remembered threshold as a guaranteed requirement for every build or platform. If a spot appears locked, read the requirement shown in the game rather than spending cash on an upgrade based on an assumed number.
A practical way to read the map
- Open the travel or pond-selection screen after returning from a trip.
- Identify every available location and note any requirement displayed for a locked one.
- Compare the fish shown for the destination with your Fish Log. A destination that contains an unrecorded species has collection value even if its cash return is not immediately higher.
- When the catch challenge is consistently failing, return to the upgrade screen and address the difficulty before repeatedly paying for unsuccessful trips.
How the catching interaction affects progress
The active fishing step is not an automatic payout. Steam’s description says players click until reaching a target before losing the fish. That target-based interaction makes catch reliability the first progression bottleneck: an upgrade has practical value when it turns near-misses into completed catches.
Use the target, not speed, as your signal
Rapid clicking without watching the target can waste a trip. Treat the displayed target as the condition for success, and adjust your pace when a fish is difficult. The game does not publish a universal timing formula, so the safest advice is to learn the current interaction rather than apply a fixed click count to every species.
When to stop farming an easy pond
Easy catches provide the cash needed to buy improvements, but staying in a safe pond forever delays new species and rarities. Move when your current upgrades make the next location’s catches realistic. If the next pond is still producing repeated failures, use the easier location as a short-term cash source and return to the upgrade tab instead of treating failure as a rarity problem.
Cash, skills, and equipment upgrades
Cash earned from trips pays for both skills and equipment. The official descriptions do not provide a complete item list, numerical effects, or an upgrade-cost table, so progression decisions should be based on the problem you are experiencing and the effect described in the current UI.
Early-game priority: remove the current bottleneck
Buy the skill or equipment improvement that addresses the fish you are failing to land now. The game explicitly connects upgrades with catching bigger, tougher, and more exotic fish. An improvement that raises catch reliability is generally more useful than saving for an unspecified future item while every attempt at the next species fails.

Mid-game priority: balance access and reliability
Once you can land the ordinary fish in a pond, divide spending between the improvement needed for the next destination and the improvement that makes current catches dependable. Reliable catches produce cash more consistently, while access to a new pond expands the Fish Log. The right balance depends on the requirement shown by your build; there is no published universal order for every upgrade.
Collection-focused spending
When cash is no longer preventing access, use the Fish Log to decide what to pursue. If a missing species is tied to a harder pond, prioritize the equipment or skill that makes that pond sustainable. If the species is available but a rarer version is missing, ordinary power upgrades may not be the limiting factor; the end-game rarity tools become more relevant after the story.
What not to assume
- There is no publicly confirmed “best first upgrade” that applies to every account.
- Higher cost does not prove that an item is the correct next purchase; match the item’s stated effect to your current failure point.
- Do not infer exact catch bonuses, experience gains, or prices unless the game displays them. The official listings do not publish those numbers.
Rarity, rarity upgrades, and Legendary fish
Google Play describes progression toward increasingly rare catches and Legendary fish. Rarity therefore affects the collection layer as well as the excitement of an individual catch: a species can be recorded as discovered while rarer versions remain absent from the Fish Log.
Before completing the story
During the main progression, concentrate on opening ponds, improving catch reliability, and discovering the species available through normal play. The store descriptions do not promise a selectable rarity menu from the start, and the developer’s patch notes place the explicit Rarity Selection feature after the main story.
After the main story: Rarity Selection
A developer patch adds Rarity Selection as a post-story feature. Once the main story is complete, you can select which rarities you want to catch, giving you a way to target Fish Log gaps instead of waiting for an unrestricted mix of outcomes. This is the clearest official answer to the question “What do rarity upgrades do?” in the current version: they support deliberate rarity targeting during end-game completion.
Player reports versus formal specifications
A Steam Community discussion includes a player reply saying that, after beating the game, the Upgrades tab allows rarity adjustment. That is useful corroboration of the post-story behavior, but it is player testimony rather than a formal specification. If the location or label differs in your version, follow the wording shown in the current Upgrades tab and patch notes.

How to approach Legendary catches
- Complete the main story and make sure the post-story rarity controls are available.
- Use the Fish Log to identify the species and rarity still missing.
- Select the relevant rarity when the game allows it, then fish in the pond associated with that species.
- Keep the upgrades needed to land the fish reliably; rarity selection changes what you target, not the underlying catch interaction.
- Record the result in the Fish Log and move to the next missing entry.
Finishing the Fish Log efficiently
The Fish Log is the central completion tool because it shows which discoveries are already secured and which remain. Legendary catches are the headline collection objective, but ordinary species and their rarities can also determine whether the log is complete.
Read the log before choosing a trip
Use the log to avoid random travel. Choose a pond that can supply an unrecorded species, then verify that your current skills and equipment are sufficient for its catch challenge. This prevents spending a trip on a location that cannot improve the collection.
Use the ordered fish tracker
The developer’s update orders fish-tracker entries by likely catch position. Treat that order as a planning aid: work through the entries near the position where the next catch is expected instead of scanning the entire list after every attempt. The ordering is a convenience feature, not a published probability table.
Use auto-click only for friction reduction
The same update adds an auto-click toggle. It can reduce repetitive input while you complete known, lower-risk entries, but it does not replace the need to select the correct pond, rarity, or upgrade. For a difficult or newly encountered fish, watch the interaction yourself so you can recognize whether the failure is caused by the target challenge or by pursuing the wrong rarity.

Common progression problems and fixes
“I cannot find the next pond.”
Check the travel screen after returning from a trip and look for a displayed requirement. Because no authoritative public unlock chart exists, do not substitute a level number from another player’s account or an older version.
“I keep losing the fish before the target.”
Slow down and observe the active target. If repeated attempts fail, farm a reliable pond briefly and buy the upgrade that addresses the difficulty described by the game. A new rarity setting will not solve a basic catch-interaction failure.

“I caught the species, but the Fish Log is still incomplete.”
Check whether the missing entry is a different rarity or a Legendary version of a species you already discovered. After the main story, use Rarity Selection to focus the appropriate rarity rather than relying on unfiltered outcomes.

“The rarity option is not visible.”
The official patch notes place Rarity Selection after completion of the main story. Confirm that the story is complete and that the game has updated to a version containing the feature. The exact menu wording may differ between platforms.
“Auto-click is not completing the collection for me.”
Auto-click is a control for repetitive input, not an automatic Fish Log solution. You still need the correct pond, a suitable rarity choice, and enough skill or equipment to land the fish.
Platform and availability notes
Steam lists Fishing Inc with an April 14, 2026 release date. Google Play lists the Android version and showed more than 10K downloads in the listing current on September 17, 2026. Feature labels and update timing can differ between platforms, so use the menus and patch version installed on your device when a control is missing or named differently.
A complete progression route
- Start in the available pond and learn the target-based clicking interaction.
- Spend early cash on the upgrade that directly improves your current catch problem.
- Check the travel screen after each meaningful upgrade to see whether another pond is available.
- Move to a new location when your equipment can handle it and its roster contains an unrecorded species.
- Use the Fish Log to choose trips instead of fishing randomly once several ponds are open.
- Complete the main story, then open Rarity Selection for entries that require targeted rarities.
- Use the ordered tracker to locate likely next catches and enable auto-click when repetitive input is the only remaining friction.
- Keep upgrading only when a catch difficulty, pond requirement, or Legendary attempt justifies the expense.
