Fissure in the Fog is Caligo, Miasma of Night, in Elden Ring Nightreign. Game8’s guide, last updated August 6, 2025, recommends prioritizing fire damage, avoiding Caligo’s frost hazards, and using cover when fog signals a freezing-mist attack. These are guide-reported tactics, not a universal best-build guarantee.
What is Fissure in the Fog?
It is the name used for Caligo, Miasma of Night, a boss in Elden Ring Nightreign. Bandai Namco describes Nightreign as “a standalone adventure within the ELDEN RING universe, crafted to bring a new gaming experience.” Its official page lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, with co-op for up to three players. What is Caligo weak to?
Game8 reports that fire is effective against Caligo and recommends bringing a fire weapon or using in-game fire items when available. It also says dealing enough fire damage temporarily lowers Caligo’s attack and defense. Treat this as specialist-guide advice rather than proof that one weapon, character, or build is best for every group.
The guide names Fire Grease and Fire Pot as possible in-game options, alongside fire weapons. Choose what fits your equipment and situation; the cited advice does not establish a single required loadout. Game8’s Caligo weakness and boss guide (updated August 6, 2025).

How to handle the fight
Watch for frost breath and ground crystals
Caligo’s frost breath and crystals left on the ground are hazards. Game8 warns that the crystals can inflict Frostbite, so avoid standing on them and keep track of where they land rather than focusing only on attacking.
Use cover when fog fills the arena
When Caligo releases fog and the arena becomes obscured, heed the attack tell and move behind cover for the dangerous freezing-mist attack. The guide recommends using the environment to avoid the attack rather than trying to endure it in the open.
Close distance after Caligo jumps away
If Caligo jumps away, Game8 advises closing the distance. Reposition toward the boss when the opening allows, while continuing to avoid frost breath and crystals; chasing through hazards can trade one problem for another.

Not on the evidence of the patch note alone. Bandai Namco’s version 1.03.2 notes, dated January 15, 2026, say: “Decreased the falling hail damage during the "Fissure in the Fog" Raid event in the Deep of Night mode.” The change is explicitly scoped to that raid event in Deep of Night; it does not establish a change to the standard expedition boss fight. The official Forsaken Hollows guide, published December 2, 2025, says the DLC adds two Nightfarers, two bosses, and one Shifting Earth. It also says DLC-exclusive content in Deep of Night requires matchmaking with three players who own the DLC. Those details concern DLC access; they do not change the Caligo tactics above.
