The first post-launch update for the 2024 SILENT HILL 2 remake was version 1.04, announced on October 21, 2024. It addressed crashes, stuttering, collision and streaming glitches, a Brookhaven Hospital interaction that could block progress, and several other gameplay bugs. It also added PC graphics options. But 1.04 was not the last word: version 1.05 fixed a Labyrinth progression problem that affected some saves after the earlier update.

What did Silent Hill 2 patch 1.04 fix?

Announced as the remake’s first post-launch patch, version 1.04 covered a wide range of issues rather than one single headline bug. The team’s notes describe fixes for gameplay and environment glitches, as well as rare crashes and stuttering. The developers did not rank bugs by how annoying they were, so the title’s phrasing is an editorial description, not an official severity rating.

Progression, collision, and environment bugs

Among the most consequential fixes was an interaction problem at Brookhaven Hospital: contemporaneous coverage said approaching a third-floor door from the wrong side could block progress. The patch notes also addressed a separate Brookhaven issue involving collision with a wall in the Dayroom.

  • Fixed an interaction at the wrong side of a Brookhaven Hospital peephole that could teleport James.
  • Fixed James getting stuck in a Neely’s Bar window after breaking it.
  • Fixed access to an otherwise inaccessible Blue Creek Apartments balcony.
  • Fixed a problem that could make James fall under the map when approaching Laura from bushes on the left.
  • Fixed environment streaming problems when looking at the Grand Market walls.
  • Removed debug numbers visible behind wallpapers in the Blue Creek Apartments Clock Room.

Boss and objective glitches

Version 1.04 corrected Abstract Daddy behavior that could prevent the boss from hitting James properly, along with errors involving the boss’s third television audio and placement. It also fixed a Lakeview Hotel issue where the Conference Room question mark did not disappear after obtaining the Cinderella figurine.

Other listed gameplay fixes included a translation display problem for the UI’s “High” preset and a wooden plank appearing during James’ death animation.

Crashes, stuttering, and motion blur

The patch notes list rare crashes involving AI, texture binding, streaming, and audio portal updates. They also describe fixes for stuttering related to sky-map generation and an issue with the in-game motion blur option. These are the developers’ changelog claims; they do not establish that every player’s performance improved or that every bug was eliminated.

What PC graphics and performance changes did 1.04 add?

The Steam-hosted 1.04 announcement lists several PC-specific graphics and performance changes. It does not provide measured frame-rate gains, and the options should not be read as a guarantee of improvement on every system.

  • Reduced visual glitches when using the latest NVIDIA DLSS.
  • Added a DLSS frame-generation option when DLSS supersampling is enabled, and NVIDIA Reflex support when frame generation is enabled.
  • Added AMD FSR 3.1.1 support and an AMD Fluid Motion Frames option when FSR 3.1 supersampling is enabled.
  • Updated Intel Nanites support for upcoming driver updates.
  • Improved Steam Deck performance and optimization.
  • Added an HZB culling toggle intended to address stuttering on some AMD and Intel GPUs.
  • Made graphics settings save locally.

Because these details come from a Steam announcement, they describe PC features. Push Square reported that the 1.04 update was deployed on both PS5 and PC; that broader rollout does not make the PC-only graphics options applicable to PS5.

Did patch 1.04 break the Labyrinth?

For some players, it introduced a progression blocker. On October 25, 2024, the team announced version 1.05 to fix a critical Labyrinth issue on Steam and PlayStation 5. It affected players who had saved in the Labyrinth—after Toluca Prison—on the earlier version, then loaded that save after updating to 1.04. The hotfix added a safeguard to activate the required triggers.

If a save falls into that specific sequence, update to 1.05 or a later version before continuing. The notice documents the affected scenario and the safeguard, but does not claim that 1.04 disrupted every Labyrinth save.

What else changed in version 1.05?

On Steam PC, version 1.05 enabled Steam Cloud support. The update notice warns that the game syncs with the newest cloud save; a newer cloud save may overwrite a local save without a warning prompt. If you keep multiple save versions, back up local saves before relying on cloud synchronization.
