You do not need a headset to play the game, but the non-VR versions are a different proposition from the VR experience. Which edition makes sense depends on your platform, whether you want VR, and whether you want the Curse of Dreadbear DLC included.
What kind of game is Help Wanted?
Help Wanted is a collection of short minigames rather than one continuous campaign. The activities range from repairing cramped ventilation systems and troubleshooting animatronics to surviving in a security office. Some revisit moments from Five Nights at Freddy’s 1–4 and Sister Location; others are original scenarios. The result is a sampler of different kinds of FNaF tension, with variety and bite-size scares at its center. Steam’s listing describes both VR and standard play, and says a headset is not required.
How do the reviews rate it?
Metacritic’s PS4 critic aggregate records an 80 Metascore from 10 reviews: eight positive, two mixed, and none negative, categorized as Generally Favorable. This is a 2019 PS4 snapshot, not a current score covering every platform. The critic excerpts point to a clear trade-off: reviewers praised the variety of short horror scenarios, the impact of VR scares, and the way the collection draws on the series’ back catalogue, while some raised control or tracking concerns, particularly around non-motion controls, and questioned whether the game’s appeal is universal.
The PlayStation Store’s PS4 listing showed 4.50 out of 5 from 17,396 player ratings when accessed in 2026. That is a storefront user-rating snapshot, separate from Metacritic’s critic score, and the total and average can change. Check the PS4 listing for its current rating in your region.

Is the VR experience essential?
No headset is required to play Help Wanted overall, but VR is a distinct part of its appeal: the game places its close-quarters tasks and scares around the player rather than presenting them on a flat screen. If you mainly want a set of FNaF-themed minigames, standard play may be enough. If the appeal is feeling physically present in a security office or maintenance space, choose an edition with the VR features you want and confirm its hardware requirements.
Steam names Oculus Rift and HTC Vive support. On PS5, the Full Time Edition offers VR and standard non-VR play, but PlayStation says a PS VR2 headset is required for its VR features. PlayStation specifies a 2 m × 2 m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in) roomscale area and warns that VR games may cause motion sickness for some players. See the PS5 edition’s requirements before choosing it for VR.

Which platform and edition should you choose?
| Edition | Play mode and hardware | Curse of Dreadbear |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | VR and standard play; Steam says a headset is not required and lists Oculus Rift and HTC Vive support. Steam listing | Sold separately or in a base-game-plus-DLC bundle. DLC listing |
| Nintendo Switch | TV, tabletop, and handheld modes are listed; Nintendo’s listing does not advertise VR, so treat this as the non-VR option. Nintendo listing | Listed separately by Nintendo. DLC listing |
| PS4 | The PS4 listing is the edition reflected in the cited Metacritic critic aggregate and PlayStation Store rating; the cited pages do not establish further hardware details for this comparison. PlayStation Store listing | Listed separately on the PlayStation Store. DLC listing |
| PS5 Full Time Edition | VR or standard play; PS VR2 is required for VR features, with a 2 m × 2 m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in) roomscale area specified. PlayStation listing | Included with the base game in this edition; PlayStation describes the package as having over 50 minigames. PS4 game owners can upgrade, according to the listing. |
Listings and availability can vary by region, so verify the edition shown in your storefront before purchase. In particular, do not assume the Switch edition reproduces a headset-based VR mode or that Curse of Dreadbear is included with every platform’s base game.
Is Help Wanted worth it on Switch?
It can be a good fit if you want to play the minigame collection on a television or in handheld or tabletop mode, and do not require VR. Nintendo lists those three play modes, not a VR mode. Reviews that emphasize immersive VR scares apply most directly to headset editions, so they should not be treated as a promise of the same experience on Switch. Check Nintendo’s listing for whether Curse of Dreadbear is included or sold separately.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
- Good fit: FNaF fans who want a variety of short scenarios, including familiar settings and original minigames.
- Best fit for VR: Players who specifically want the close, immersive scares and have a supported headset and suitable play space for their chosen edition.
- Consider another option: Players who want a single, long-form story, dislike jump scares, or are uncomfortable with VR may find the collection’s format or presentation a poor match. Standard play remains available on the editions described above.
The 2019 critic excerpts are observations, not guarantees of every player’s experience: reviewers praised the compact variety, but some raised control or tracking issues, and one Italian outlet cautioned that even VR does not make the game suited to everyone.
