What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
First identify which kind of “lag” you have. Delayed actions and teleporting players usually indicate network latency or packet loss; a jerky image in solo play is usually an FPS problem; an unresponsive lobby or endless matchmaking search may be a game, service, or corrupted-configuration issue. Test those possibilities in that order before changing Windows or router settings.
Identify the symptom before applying a fix
Network lag
- Other players teleport, freeze, or move in bursts.
- Cards, dice, turns, or animations appear seconds after your input.
- The picture remains smooth, but multiplayer interaction is delayed.
- The problem is worse on Wi‑Fi or only when a particular player hosts.
FPS stutter
- The entire image jerks or briefly freezes, including in solo play.
- Lowering resolution or effects improves the problem.
- Audio may continue while frames drop.
Changing DNS or opening ports will not normally fix a rendering problem.
Lobby or matchmaking freeze
- The lobby list does not respond.
- Matchmaking searches indefinitely.
- Joining a lobby leaves you on a loading screen or requires Alt+F4.
Players have reported lobby, hosting, matchmaking, and loading failures in Steam discussions, but those reports do not establish a universal outage: lobby report, hosting and verification report, and join-loading report.
Run the fastest isolation tests
- Leave the match, close Liar’s Bar, fully exit Steam, restart the PC, and try again.
- Pause Steam downloads, cloud backups, streaming uploads, torrents, browsers, and recording software.
- Try a private lobby with a friend, then have a different player host. If only one friend’s lobby lags, the host’s upload stability, NAT, firewall, route, or PC may be the bottleneck.
- Try another public lobby. If public lobbies fail but a private lobby works, matchmaking or service availability is more likely than your graphics settings.
- Test another Steam multiplayer game. If every game has trouble, investigate your network; if only Liar’s Bar does, prioritize game files, configuration, updates, or a game-side issue.
Restart the network and test a different connection
For a low-risk network reset, turn off or unplug the modem/router, wait about 60 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for internet access to return. Steam recommends restarting network hardware for lag and disconnection problems: Steam network-connectivity guidance.

Use Ethernet when possible
Connect the PC directly to the router and retest. If Ethernet fixes the issue, Wi‑Fi interference, signal strength, congestion, or the wireless adapter is the likely variable. When Ethernet is unavailable, move near the access point and use 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi‑Fi if supported. A phone hotspot is useful as a short diagnostic: improvement points toward the home router, Wi‑Fi, or ISP path, not necessarily the game. Download speed alone does not determine latency; packet loss, congestion, bufferbloat, and routing matter.
Remove network software variables
Temporarily disable VPNs, proxy settings, “gaming” network optimizers, traffic-shaping tools, third-party firewall suites, aggressive antivirus network protection, and motherboard or laptop network-priority utilities. If the game works afterward, re-enable protection and whitelist Steam and Liar’s Bar or adjust the conflicting rule. Do not leave security software disabled. A community troubleshooting guide discusses firewall, proxy, antivirus, and adapter conflicts: Steam community network guide.

Check updates and verify the game files
Liar’s Bar is a Steam Early Access title, and official announcements include stability, lobby, matchmaking, and freeze fixes. Let Steam finish all downloads, restart Steam after an update, and review the official announcements before assuming the fault is local.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Liar’s Bar and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files (called Local Files in some Steam builds).
- Select Verify integrity of game files and wait for the scan to finish.
- Restart Steam and test multiplayer.
Verification can replace missing or corrupted files. It cannot repair Wi‑Fi interference, ISP routing, a server-side problem, or a graphics-driver issue. Steam lists broadband internet and these PC requirements: Windows 10 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, DirectX 11, and a GTX 1050/RX 460-class minimum GPU; recommended specifications are 8 GB RAM and a GTX 2060/RX 580-class GPU. Requirements do not guarantee a particular frame rate: Steam store page.

Reset Windows networking when other games also lag
Use this only when multiple Steam games or applications have connection trouble. Close the game, open Command Prompt with Run as administrator, and run each command separately:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /flushdns
Then restart Windows. If needed, refresh the DHCP lease as well:

These commands temporarily interrupt connectivity and are not a guaranteed fix for game-specific lag. Steam documents this class of troubleshooting at its network support page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix FPS stutter separately
- Compare your PC with the requirements on the Steam store page.
- Lower resolution, shadows, effects, and other demanding settings one at a time.
- Close browsers, capture tools, and background applications.
- Update the graphics driver from your GPU manufacturer.
- Check CPU/GPU temperatures and clock speeds for thermal throttling.
- Test fullscreen, borderless, and windowed modes.
- Disable unnecessary Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, and GPU recording overlays.
Make one change at a time so you can identify which setting matters. If the image stutters offline as well as online, this branch is more relevant than DNS or router changes.

Advanced: reset the game’s local configuration
A Steam community post reports that deleting the game’s registry key can resolve some launch or lobby problems. This is an unofficial configuration reset, not a confirmed multiplayer-lag fix: community report.
- Close Liar’s Bar.
- Press Windows key + R, type
regedit, and press Enter. - In Registry Editor, export a backup of
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCurve AnimationLiar's Bar. - Delete only the
Liar's Barkey underCurve Animation. - Restart the game.
This can reset graphics, audio, controls, and other saved preferences. Do not delete the entire Curve Animation folder or edit unrelated keys. Skip this step if you are uncomfortable with Registry Editor; use Steam support instead.
When the problem is probably game-side
Suspect a service or game regression when friends in different locations report the same failure, lobby and matchmaking screens fail while other games work, or the problem began immediately after an update. Liar’s Bar remains in Early Access, so a patch may change behavior again. Check the official announcements and the game’s Steam support page, which identifies Curve Animation as the support provider. Do not use port forwarding or a router DMZ without verified game-specific requirements; no reliable Liar’s Bar port list is established here.
Quick Recap
Practical order of operations
- Classify the symptom as network lag, FPS stutter, or lobby freeze.
- Restart the game, Steam, PC, and router; pause downloads.
- Try another host, a private lobby, Ethernet, or a hotspot.
- Disable VPNs, proxies, overlays, and third-party network filters for testing.
- Confirm updates and verify files in Steam.
- If other games are affected, run the administrator network-reset commands and reboot.
- For visual stutter, reduce graphics load, update drivers, and check temperatures.
- Only after those steps, consider the backed-up registry configuration reset.
- If local tests pass but multiple players see the same lobby or matchmaking failure, monitor official announcements and contact support with the affected lobby, time, region, host, and troubleshooting already attempted.
