Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart by checking which OBS counter is rising: Dropped Frames (Network) points to the connection to the streaming service or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain; Rendering Lag or Encoding Lag points to local GPU or encoding workload instead. Viewer buffering can happen even when OBS reports no dropped frames. Treat these as different problems before changing settings.
For a continuous children’s animation stream, the right fix depends on your platform, operating system, OBS version, stream settings, and stats. There is no universal bitrate or PC specification for this scenario. Work through the matching branch below, then use the OBS log and counters to confirm whether the change helped.
Identify which kind of frame loss OBS is reporting
In OBS, open View > Stats while streaming. Watch the network dropped-frames count separately from rendering and encoding lag. Network drops concern delivery from your computer to the platform’s remote ingest server; rendering or encoding overload means OBS is struggling to produce frames locally. OBS explains the network distinction in its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guidance and treats performance overload separately in its Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide.
- Dropped Frames (Network) rises: Follow the network checks below. OBS says an unstable connection or configured bitrate the connection cannot sustain can cause this symptom; too many dropped frames can disconnect a stream.
- Rendering Lag rises: OBS may not be able to composite and render the scene quickly enough, often because the GPU is busy or the scene is complex.
- Encoding Lag rises: Local encoding is not keeping up. Check the actual OBS stats and log before changing output settings or assuming the internet is at fault.
- OBS shows no drops, but viewers report buffering: Follow the viewer-buffering section; it is not necessarily a frame-loss problem on your end.
Record the relevant counters, the time they rise, and any visible disconnections before making one change at a time. For useful follow-up diagnosis, note the streaming platform, operating system, OBS version, output resolution and frame rate, bitrate, encoder, and a recent OBS log.

If OBS reports network dropped frames
Stabilize the connection first
- Use wired Ethernet if possible. OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming stability. If you are on Wi-Fi, test Ethernet before changing image-quality settings.
- Check for interference from network software. VPNs, security software, bundled network-management software, and outdated network drivers can be relevant. Test changes cautiously, keep security protections in mind, and update drivers from an appropriate source rather than installing an unverified utility.
- Check the physical network path. Inspect the cable, router or modem, and network adapter. OBS lists these and other network devices as possible fault points. Test or replace a suspected component to confirm it; buying a cable or router without isolating the fault is not a diagnosis.
- Review OBS network options. OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing on Windows, Bind to IP (normally left at its default unless there is a specific interface issue), IP family selection, and dynamic bitrate adjustment. These are diagnostic options, not guaranteed fixes. Change only a setting relevant to your setup, then observe whether the network counter changes.
- Escalate beyond the computer if needed. If the issue persists across tested local components or appears outside your control, contact your internet service provider and share the times and symptoms.
Use dynamic bitrate as a temporary tradeoff, not a cure
OBS can adjust bitrate dynamically under congestion, which may reduce dropped frames. OBS warns that this does not fix the underlying connection issue and lowers video quality. Treat it as a fallback when you cannot resolve the connection problem, not proof that the line is healthy. Avoid lowering bitrate reflexively if the counters instead show rendering or encoding lag.
There is no bitrate recommendation specific to 24/7 children’s animation established here. Choose settings against the platform’s current guidance and your measured, sustained connection rather than an assumed universal number.

If rendering or encoding lag is rising
OBS needs GPU resources to render and composite scenes, and complexity adds workload. Animation streams may use media or browser sources, but the title alone does not reveal your scene setup; inspect what is actually active and use the stats to confirm the bottleneck.
- Reduce competing GPU work: Close or limit other GPU-heavy applications while OBS is running.
- Simplify the scene that is active: Remove sources you do not need, and conditionally test expensive browser sources, filters, or effects. Make a copy of the scene collection first if changes would be difficult to recreate.
- On Windows, consider administrator mode for GPU overload: OBS’s performance guide suggests running OBS as administrator in applicable GPU-overload cases. This is not a general network fix.
- Reduce output demand only when measurements justify it: Lowering resolution or frame rate reduces workload but changes the stream’s output. OBS suggests trying 30 fps if 60 fps is not working; that is an example to test against your content and bottleneck, not a universal preset.
After each adjustment, compare the same OBS counters during comparable stream conditions. If network drops remain while rendering and encoding stay clear, return to the network branch rather than continuing to reduce visual quality.

If viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames
Viewer buffering can result from the audience’s locations, devices, or internet connections, and OBS notes that this can occur without broadcaster-side frame drops. Check OBS stats first; then compare your bitrate and output choices with the platform’s recommendations. Lowering bitrate may improve compatibility for some viewers, but can require a reduction in resolution, image quality, or frame rate.
Whether the platform offers transcoding also affects how viewers with slower connections can watch. Because the platform is unspecified, check its current live-stream guidance and available playback options rather than assuming all viewers receive lower-quality versions.

What continuous streaming changes—and what it does not
A 24/7 stream makes recurring faults important to isolate: a marginal network path, an overloaded scene, or a recurring software conflict may become visible over a longer run. The OBS guidance cited here does not establish a dedicated 24/7 operating procedure, guaranteed uptime, recommended computer specification, or universal bitrate for children’s animation. Do not treat one clean short test as proof that a continuous stream will never encounter a fault.
If the general checks do not resolve recurring drops, preserve the relevant OBS log and stats and ask for troubleshooting with the platform, OS, OBS version, encoder, output settings, and the exact counter that rises. Avoid sharing a stream key or other credentials with anyone helping diagnose the issue.
